  • Need help with new OS RAID 0 on SSD, good or no?

I am going to be building a new PC. While I am technologically savvy, I must admit I'm banging my head against the wall over this since I can't find enough information, and yes I have looked and none of the sources can seem to provide me with the answer I have been looking for, which is why I'm forced to now ask.

The motherboard can support RAID 0 and two 6Gb/s SATA in additon to regular 3Gb/s SATA.

    http://www.thinkcomputers.org/gigabyte-x58a-ud3r-i...

I will be setting up Win7 64-bit system on my new PC. I have heard that installing the OS on a SSD makes it pretty quick and responsive, while leaving other programs to be installed in a regular platter HD. Normally I just hook up my hard drives, install the OS, and call it done. But I know that RAID 0 increases the performance of hard drives.

I was just planning on installing the OS on the SSD, and using a separate HD for programs. And not going to set up any RAIDs. Just plain installation, no messing with settings.

    I have several queries:

    1) Is the response time for the installed OS worth getting a SSD if I do not put it on RAID 0?

    2) Do I need 2 identical SSD to implement RAID 0, in addition to the regular HD for program storage?

    3) Is the performance boost with 2 SSD in RAID 0 worth the cost?

    4) SATA III vs SATA II does it matter in SSD or HD?

    5) If one of the SSD fails while in RAID 0, will the OS become unbootable?

    6) Could I run RAID 0 with one SSD and one Regular HD? Is this advisable?

    Thank you.

  • 20 gauge Trap Shooting?

I purchased a 20 gauge pump shotgun, Mossberg 500CG 28" modified choke barrel, and I was going to break it in by going trap shooting with a friend. Standard 16 yard singles.

Being that it is a 20 gauge, I was wondering the best shot size to use for it.

    7-1/2 , 8, or 9

If anybody that shoots trap with a 20 would reply, I would be most appreciative.

Please do not tell me to get a 12 gauge, which is the standard trap gun.

    Thank you.

  • Bullet grain properties?

I've been trying to figure how the amount of grains in a bullet affect its properties as a projectile.

I've been reading contradictory things online and I am wondering what to believe.

    9mm generally comes in

    115gr

    124gr

    147gr

I know there are other grains but these are the most common 3.

What are the properties of each type.

i.e. Amount of recoil, penetration, speed.

And which would be best HP grain for carry rounds?

And please do not tell me to get a .40 firearm.

    Thank you

  • Does Straight Talk Cell phone service work out of state?

I will be going on a trip tomorrow to Boston, MA from Miami, FL, and I need to know if Straight talk works out of the state where it was activated. I know their website says they work anywhere in the US, but I presume they mean anywhere you activate it. I think they are zip code locked, at least for the state you are in.

Would prefer to hear from someone that has had first hand experience with this. Not hearsay.

    Thank you.

  • Is it okay to scrub the barrel both ways on a .22LR rifle?

I have purchased my first rifle, a Marlin 925 .22LR with microgrooves. I wanted to know if when it comes time to scrub the barrel with the brass brushes if it's OK to slide it both ways while cleaning it. I know with guns you are suppose to only go forward, but with a rifle it's a bit of a pain.

    Thank you.

  • AMD Phenom 9500 or AMD Athlon X2 7850 BE ?

I currently have an AMD Phenom X4 9500 2.2Ghz CPU. I was thinking of changing it to the AMD Athlon X2 7850 BE 2.8Ghz. I mostly use my PC for gaming.

I already bought the Athlon, but before I open the box, I wanted some feedback.

I have tried to overclock the Phenom, but it proves unstable even at 100mhz OC. I purchased it before I was aware of the TLB errata bug. I currently have the TLB patch enabled and has been running fine at stock speeds.

If I install the Athlon, I will OC it to at least 3.0Ghz, depending on

    temperatures/stability.

    Current Setup:

    Radeon HD 4850 512MB

    RAM 8GB @ 800mhz

    HD 7200RPM

    MB: M3N78 PRO

    Vista 64bit

    750 Watt Ultra PSU

So I guess what this boils down to is:

Is a 4 core 2.2Ghz CPU better for gaming?

Or the 2 core 3.0Ghz CPU?

Please don't tell me to buy a newer more expensive CPU.

    Thank you

  • Dell Dimension 4700 PSU Power Supply Upgrade ?

I was planning on upgrading my graphics card to the Radeon HD 4850, but it requires a power supply with 450 watts and a PCI Express connector.

I was wondering If I can go to any store and buy any replacement PSU Power Supply Unit with enough watts and PCI-E connector. Or would it need to be a specific Dell Dimension 4700 PSU upgrade.

In other words, does Dell use special PSUs only available from them or could I go and buy any replacement I want?
