  • Emailing a junior college coach?

Hi i currently attend a junior college and am in an interesting situation. After not trying out for baseball in high school and just playing rec( was a stupid decision looking back i regretted it everytime i saw the team playing) ive been in junior college for a year and really just rediscovered my love of baseball. I used to play on a select and then all star team so i have played at competitive levels and after watching the team play fall ball im pretty certain i can hang with them after i get myself into shape(my rec team was also filled with varsity or jv hs players). for the past couple months ive been playing and/or working out everyday dedicated to it like i never have been ( when i get myself set on a goal i go at it with my all ) and i want the coach to know i will be working my *** off for the next 10 months before fall tryouts. However i have never met him and dont want to come off aggressive, arrogant or desperate and was wondering if a basic email like this would be good to start.

    Dear Coach ____

Now that you have finished the fall season, I wanted to contact you to introduce myself. My name is ___ i am currently a student at ___ and I would like to play for ___ next year. Do you keep office hours? Is there some time I could drop by and introduce myself in person and speak with you about this, as well as get your advice?

i want him to know how badly i want to play next season and that i will be working for it but dont know if the first email is the time to bring it up ?

also would it be ok to even ask him to possibly work me out sometime in his free time if i meet with im ? ( like on field not just in a gym)

I currently am overweight though ive already lost 25 lbs since mid august and dont want to look like im not a serious ballplayer because i know hes probably used to seeing guys in decent shape and not sure if that will matter ( though i suppose hed see my in shape during tryouts if i keep at it)

Although im small in height (5'8) ive always known the game well and play catcher and infield(mainly 2nd base)

Sorry for all the info thanks for reading!

  • BBCOR bat advice? CF5, Vexxum , EXO Grid 2 , Omaha, S1?

Hi, Im currently looking into getting a new bat for next year / trying out for junior college in the fall while the 2012s are on sale . Ive pretty much narrowed it down to the Demarini CF5 , Demarini Vexxum , Louisville EXO Grid 2 or OMAHA and the Easton S1. All these bats get great reviews and im looking for input from anyone thats used these. The s1 seems to be a hot commodity and though the new cf5s are very expensive i found some 2012s for not much more than the vexxums / omahas and was thinking it may be worth it to go for it. Any input is appreciated thanks!

  • Are composite bats legal in college ball right now ?

From what i understand when properly used these bats can add a lot of distance to a ball ( if anyone knows how much include that too haha) I see that there quite a bit more expensive then even a good aluminum bat like a vexxum and i was wondering if they are currently legal at the college / junior college level? If they are is the extra 200$ really worth it ?

  • Will Getting in shape improve arm strength / playing junior college without high school.?

I just turned 19 and have been pretty overweight since middle school, at one point i played on a select team and all star team but didnt tryout in high school and just played rec ball after being greatly discouraged about baseball ( though many high school players were on my team and other teams) I currently attend junior college and recently got my drive back for baseball and its all i want to do, in the past 5 weeks ive started doing cardio 4-7 days a week and doing dumbell and resistance band exercises every other day for the first time in my life. Ive dropped from 5'8 223 to 206 and am continuing to lose weight. i maxed out around high 60s maybe low 70s last time i checked and am wondering if the lose of weight and strength exercises can add speed and distance to my arm? Mainly played catcher with some 2B mixed in and very occasional outfield and would like to try to play in junior college this spring. Ive never been very in shape / strong but always relied on being a good contact hitter with a good eye and being heads up with a fast release behind the plate. the school i go to recently merged the two campus teams and the better campus has won the regional championship for the past 5 years so i know it would be extremely competitive but if i get in shape do you think theres a chance to make the team?
