I am really considering joining the NJ Air National Guard or the Active Duty Air Force. If I'm lucky enough, I would really really really like a Loadmaster slot. I just got back from MEPS, and I felt a certain coldness in EVERYBODY'S tone. They were friendly, but like a sort of "proper" friendly if that makes any sense. I am a very outgoing, liberal, and I'm told charming guy who likes to have fun. I like to travel and try new things, and take the road less traveled. I understand that Air Force Basic and Tech School is not a vacation in any way, shape or form. My question is will Basic Training and Air Force life in general, while shaping me to become a braver, more confident, and courageous, and more fit American Airman; strip me of my ultra-friendly personality and slightly bohemian way of living? I like who I am, and I want the Air Force to build on that, in the form of strength, endurance, leadership, and confidence, not turn me into a cold shell of myself. Maybe it was just the first impression of MEPS or am I crazy?
