  • Question about appeals - for a novel?

    Hi,

I'm researching a novel, and I have a character who was convicted of second degree murder (the book is set in Hawaii) - could his son pay for an attorney to investigate and file an appeal even if the defendant did not want one?

What is a typical sentence for second degree murder?

What would be reasonable for cost for this?

Thank you so much in advance!

  • Which cult horror film is this?

It's been decades since I saw this film, but it was one of the best bad movies ever.

There are a group of kids on an archaeological dig with their professor. They move aside a rock and a monster comes out. I think it might be in the American Southwest, the monster might have to do with Indians.

What makes the movie so spectacularly bad is the script. In particular, there is a scene, around the time they discover the monster's grave, where they decide to have lunch. The actors actually sit down and have lunch in real time - and the dialog goes something like this:

"I have tuna. Oh. But I hate tuna."

"Gee, I have peanut butter and jelly."

"Golly that sounds better, want to swap sandwiches?"

That's not actually what they say but if I remember correctly it's just about that bad. I'd like to share the movie with my teenage kids. Any idea what it was titled or where I can buy it?

  • Will all truth eventually be discovered?

Is the path of human understanding inevitable - if Newton had not discovered gravity would someone else have come to it and understood it in the same way?

    OR

Is the progress of understanding shaped by what and when things are discovered - is what we learn based on what we look for which is based on what we already know?

    OR ...?

The best answer will give examples that support its position. Cheers
