  • Need help with crying it out?

so i was bound and determined to try the cry it out method where u let them cry for 5 minutes then go in and pat them and calm them down, let them cry another 5, and so on and so on til they get the hint that they need to go to sleep on their own.......well we were gonna be strong and not go in and get our son when his cries broke our heart but he fell asleep after 4 minutes..??.. is it really that easy?

When he wakes up do i let him try to cry for that 5 minutes before i go in there to comfort him or do i need to go in there to comfort him and tell him its okay still night night and then let him go for the 5 minutes and then keep repeating?

the reason why we're trying this method is because my son will not go to sleep at night without nursing off of me. Tonight i let him nurse we talked and cuddled for a few minutes before i took him to his crib to let him go to sleep on his own. Normally after i'm done nursing he will HAVE TO use me as a pacifier for 10-20 minutes before i can move him to his crib, b/c at that point he will break off and be out cold. If you try to move him to bed without the boob pacifier thing going on he will cry and scream so normally i would just pick him back up and let him suck tiil he fell asleep fully.

then he began to wake up frequently thru the night and he's trying to insist that he wont go back to sleep without being nursed. I dont' kno if its so much as wanting to eat or just use me as a paci. sometime he just needs like seriously a minute to suck and then back to bed! I just dont know! What's ur suggestion? and pleasssse dont be crappy!! He eats three meals of baby food/ or table food a day plus nursings so he's getting plenty to eat. I dont mind to to still nurse him at night if i truely believed he really needed it yet ya know

  • Question about breast milk?

Will my baby ever drink more than 3 ounces at at time? He's probably fed my breast milk from bottles 1/4 of the time (probably a little less actually) but pretty much since he was 3 or 4 weeks he's been drinking 3 ounces. Every once in a while he might drink around 4 ounces. I've heard that as he gets older and wants more that my milk will just become more nutritious without actually increasing. If that makes sense lol.

So will he ever will drink more than 3 or 4 oz he takes?

Sorry this is kind of a dumb question but I have sooo many 8 oz bottles that I've never used and was considering giving them to my SIL but am afraid that as soon as I give them to her I'll need them.

  • Baby always has to be fed to sleep?

I have a 3 month old son who almost always has to be fed to be able to sleep. Every once in a blue moon he will wear himself out playing under his activity gym or while we are out shopping he will fall asleep on his own. This is very rare though. He's a good sleeper though so that's not the problem. I worry about when I will stop breastfeeding (around a year) that this will effect him getting to sleep and he'll resist going to bed at night without a bedtime feed.

How many of you always pretty much fed your babies to sleep? Did they resist dropping the bedtime feed and how did all that work out for you? Relatives try to tell me that it will be easier to get my baby onto a pacifier and have him use that as a way to fall asleep because that you can always through away. Isn't that pretty much the same. It's a dependency either way. Plus he refuses a paci.

  • Breastfed baby and growth spurts? (milk supply)?

My son is going to be 9 weeks tomorrow and I'm not for sure when growth spurts typically are but I'm thinking he's growing through a growth spurt right now. He's driving me crazy! He's been cluster feeding since Saturday nonstop. Basically as soon as he gets off my breast itll be a half hour later and he wants more already! Hell even nurse for an hr, to an hr and a half, or even longer at a time!----and this is followed by another round of this basically a half hr later like I said.

The weird thing is he still sleeps through the night and doesnt cluster feed like this thru the night. :/

I understand that by cluster feeding like this he's just trying to tell my breasts to make more milk but is there anything I can do besides wait it out? How long can these growth spurts last until my milk supply will go up more to what he wants?

  • Anyone one with a Medela hosp. grade pump can you help?

Hi, I breastfeed my son and have been pumping my breastmilk for the last couple weeks regularly for storage since I will be returning back to work soon.

Anyways I have a Medela Hospital grade pump and this has never happened before when I was pumping but this time I while I was pumping MILK backed up into one sides tubing. It didn't happen to both sides tubing just one and I'm not quite sure why. It wasn't just a little bit in the tubing----the tubing completely was full of milk. :(

What did I do to my pump????? I ran water through that tubing and have it trying to dry out but will this happen again and can you tell me if its okay to use that tubing ever again?

Has this happened to any of you before and what did you do?

  • Frozen Breast Milk and Sore nipples?

Okay I have two questions for mommies----

I know that frozen breast milk is good for up to 24 hours thawed out in the refrigerator BUT how long is it good for after its been thawed out and is OUTSIDE of the refrigerator? Like in the diaper bag? Is it the same as freshly expressed breast milk between 8-10 hours at room temp.?or less?

Also my son has no problems with his latch and is an awesome eater but my nipples feel SOOO dried out! They are hurting from being so dried out and I have been using Lansinoh cream on them for the last two days straight and they have only slightly improved. Is there something else that I can use for my sore dried out nipples? Or should I just give the Lansinoh more time?

I think I heard that you can put regular cooking oil on your nipples and that REALLY helps. Is this true and if so would I have to wipe the oil off before feeding my son?

    Thanks!

  • A few questions for mommies?

Just wanted to ask a few questions just out of curiosity....

    1. How old is your baby?

    2. How much did your baby weigh at birth and how much do they weigh now?

    3. Do you breastfeed or use formula, or both?

    4. How often does your baby eat?

    5. How many ounces does your baby usually eat per feeding?

    6. At what age did they have their first bump up in the amount of ounces they eat?(if that makes sense)

    7. On average how many diapers does your baby go through a day?

    8. What's your preferred brand of diaper if you have one?

    9. If you use bottles what is your favorite brand?

    10. At what age did your child begin to sleep through the night?( if they've begun to yet)

  • Sleep positioners for babies?

My newborn baby likes to sleep on his side and just really refuses to sleep on his back. I have bought one of those dual vent sleep positioners from walmart and I was wondering if it is safe to put baby on this with the things positioned so he can sleep on his side.

I don't want him to roll on his belly so this is why I wanted to be able to use this sleep positioner. What do you think? Is this okay for me to have him sleep on this in that position?

Have any of you used one of these before like this?

    Thanks Mommas! :)

Oh this is a link to a pic of the sleep positioner in case you don't know what I'm talking about.

  • Does this sound like I had my membranes stripped?

So today I went to my doctor for my last appointment with him b/c next Monday night I am going in to be induced.

Anyways he checked me for dilation and to see how my cervix is doing and he said that I was about a fingertip or a little more and I was wondering what does this mean??

Also he said my cervix was definitely lowered, the head was nice and REALLY low, and that my cervix has softened up.

**When he checked my cervix and to see if I was dilated it DID NOT feel like the other time he checked me. Last time there was just pressure and it was not really unbearable. It actually didn't really bother me at all.

This time there was DEFINITE pressure AND it HURT! It felt like he had his whole arm up there!!! hahha. And this time I noticed that he was moving his fingers around in there from side to side and sorta in a circular motion. At the time I didn't think much of it, just thought it was weird how different it felt from last time, but then I told my sis-in-law about it and she said the side to side motion I described and all the discomfort/pain sounded like I got my membranes stripped. (She had that done with her 2nd)

Does this sound like it to you too?

Also last time he checked me he told me to expect some spotting and that would be normal. THIS time he told me the same thing PLUS that I should not be surprised if I noticed lots of mucus-y discharge tonight and over the next couple of days. Is this also b/c he most likely stripped or ruptured whatever its called my membranes?

Thanks ladies! I know I'm kinda clueless but this is my 1st!!!!

  • *Plz answer*Having contractions some are 5 min apart others are....?

Okay so my friend is having contractions that are for the most part all 5 minutes apart. Sometimes they vary though and can get to be 7 to 10 min apart and other times as close as 3. She is in a LOT of pain she says ( she's DEF not good with pain and has a VERRRRRY low pain tolerance i believe) and says the contractions are already very high on a scale of 1 to 10. She went to the hospital to see if she was dilated and she was but only to 1. They checked her again like 3 hours or so later and she was still a one.

Is there anything you all can suggest to relieve some of her pain from the contractions??? What can she do to make them more regular if anything?

I suggested nipple stimulation, sex, walking, and soaking in the bathtub in some hot water b/c that is all the things I have read/heard that can SOMETIMES work.

Her induction is scheduled for tomorrow night tho, so either way she will be having her baby soon, but for now is there anything you can suggest for her pain mainly?

    Thanks Mommas!!!! :)

  • Breast Pump???????????

    Hi!

I'm looking at breast pumps again and I have heard that this Playtex Embrace Dbl Electric Breast pump is wonderful. It is hospital grade and is compatible with both types of bottles that I will be using---Drop-in Nursers and the Playtex Ventaire bottles. The only problem is that Walmart just put the new model up on their website b/c the older one wasn't BPA free, and there are no new reviews on it. Have any of you mommies ever used THIS pump or heard anything about it?

    http://www.walmart.com/catalog/product.do?product_...

This is the link to the same pump's review from 2008 when it wasn't BPA free yet. It has awesome reviews on it.

    http://www.walmart.com/catalog/product.do?product_...

So what do you guys think.....and I'm not trying to be rude but yes I know about the Medela pumps, but I'm not wanting to know about them. So please just give me responses about this Playtex Embrace hospital grade pump.

I will pumping SEVERAL times a day and primarily my son will be getting my breastmilk in bottles except for in the morning and at night.

  • Bottles? How many is enough of a supply?

So I just had my baby shower on Saturday and it was such a blast!!! My hubby and I got soooo many great things its unbelievable, but anyways....

I received 12 Playtex Drop-In Nurser Bottles: 5 of the 4 oz ones and 7 of the 8 oz ones.

I also recieved 6 Playtex Ventaire Bottles: 3 of the smaller bottles( says up to 6 oz. not 4) and 3 of the bigger bottles that is up to 9 oz.

I think that this is a great supply and that we don't need to buy anymore....Am I correct? Hubby and I are trying to figure out a list of ALL the other things that we need to buy before our son is here. No more bottles right? There are no extra nipples is this really a problem?

I'm a new mom-to-be so I don't really know about how much is enough or not enough. Thanks for your help!

Oh and by the way I'm breastfeeding but I will be going back to work 25 hrs a week, 6-8 weeks after I have my baby and plan on pumping a lot to build up my supply--leaving bottles for when I'm gone and he's with his dad or my mom or sister. Then in January I will be working probably around 20 hrs. AND going back to college full time.

So my son will primarily be feeding from a bottle my breastmilk. So knowing this we still have enough bottles right?

  • Question about Lansinoh Dbl. Electric Breast Pumps? Can anyone help?

The breast pump that I have added to my registry (and am going to use either way) is the Lansinoh - Lightweight Double Electric Breast Pump System. I was wondering if anyone has used this pump and what kind of experience do you have with it? How often do you pump?

I will be pumping probably everyday once i get into the swing of things because I will be going back to work part time once my baby is 10 weeks and then in January I will be in Nursing school full-time. Is this pump going to wear down and break or is a good pump. I have only heard great things about it and have also read wonderful reviews.

My next question and one I really would like answered is are there any bottles that attach directly on to this Lansinoh pump? Like the Playtex Drop-in bottles? Does the medela or playtex milk storage systems work well with this pump....like will they attach to the Lansinoh pump directly too? These are the storage systems i have been looking at and wondering if they are compatible with my pump. I also have plans to get the Lansinoh milk storage bags but am wondering about other options too.

  • Letting your baby hear music while in the womb?

I have been wanting to buy the little Baby Einstein classical music cds to play through headphones for unborn son, and I lucked out and found two of the Baby Einstein cds at a yardsale yesterday for only a dollar! I'm sitting here on the computer letting my son listen to the music for the first time while messing around on the internet. It is so CRAZY!

I think I woke him up with the music b/c he wasn't kicking at first but all of sudden he started going crazy! I love feeling his little kicks and this music sure is making him give me steady kicks every few seconds :). It makes me smile.

Now as for a question( because really I just wanted to share) how many of you other mommas to be or moms have played music for your baby while it was still in the womb? Did you get any reactions from your baby? Doesn't it just make you smile? lol.....my son is probably like what the heck is going on mom?

  • Has anyone ever used this breast pump before or can you recommend me one?

I'm a first time mom to be and am wanting to breastfeed my son. I will be returning to work anywhere from 8-12 weeks after he is born depending on how long I need to take off before he is born.

Anyways I will be pumping quite a bit b/c I will be working anywhere from 20-30 hours a week, mostly likely around 25 and then will be returning to school in January.

does anyone have any pumps they can recommend to me, knowing that I will be using the pump quite often? Does anyone use the pump that I have linked below? I was considering putting it on my registry but don't know if it would be any good at all. Thanks for all your help moms!!!

Oh and I'd like to keep the price under 200 for sure, but if you think one more expensive would work better feel free to let me know!

  • Our Nursery bedding set?

This is the bedding set that my husband and I have both decided we like for our little baby boy. The only thing is we were REALLY wanting to paint the room a green to match but also use a wall border to give the walls a little extra something you know?

The trouble is I can't really find a good wall border to match this set. But the set is SUCH a good deal especially since it comes with a ton of things. Can anyone help me find a wall border that wouldn't be bad with this set?

I have found this two that don't look bad, but....IDK. what do you think?
