  • Horse is lame !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!?

Myself and my mare had a very unpleasent rotational fall out novice about 2 weeks ago. She is young only 5. She vetted clean after the fall but on friday (week later) she was very stiff almost hobbling doing flatwork. There seems to be some heat in her shoulder, but it's not tender and her legs are fine. The vet said it's probably just sore muscles and put her on box rest for a week, hose twice a day and give her bute.

This mare had a similar shoulder problem last year around this time of year, I told my new vet this but he didn't think they were related and I really think they are ?

Any advise on how to best help her recover ASAP would be much appericated !

  • Bit suggestions !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!?

people seemed a little confused the last time I asked !

My horse seems to prefer downward action on the poll rather than much bit in her mouth , I have been riding her in a loop cheeked snaffle ??? (loose ring snaffle with two loops in the rings) but its not strong enough to hunt in ! any suggestions for a leverage bit that has a v.skinny mouth piece !

The mare is an ex-racehorse who loved to front run, she still p2p's regularly so is still fed full on hot feed. She is fine in the snaffle for flat work and sj but out hunting with 50 or so horses facing fences at high speed, I need to be able to control he properly and no amount of re-training is going to convince a stil p2p'ing racehorse who likes to front run to slow down infront of a hedge out hunting !

    bit suggestions !

  • horse refuses to hold an outline in trot !?

My latest ''project horse'' will hold a perfect outline nautrally in walk and canter, she refuses point-blank to hold an outline in trot, she isn't unbalanced just very cheeky and delibritaly sticks her nose out and tries to unbalance the rider by throwing cheeky bucks etc (her previous owner let her away with it and when she was naughty but her back in the stable !) I have managed to correct everything except the pratting around she does in trot ! any suggestions to get her to hold an outline in trot ??? im doing a lot of cavelitti and circle work with her and its having no effect ! (she has been fully vetted and is 100% sound)

  • what could this be, horse is not being her usual self ?

My friends horse (5year old irish sport horse) is extremely stiff when you ask her to flex to the left side. She appears to have a lump of muscle between her shoulder and neck and has pretty crappy topline ! she is 5 ! She is not using her front end well over fences for the last 2 weeks (she is not tucking up as well as normal), the lump appears to have gotten larger over the last week , but it is not sore to touch !" What could it be ! the chiropractor is coming out on friday !

she hasnt been jumped / ridden since the lump appeared because she just appeared to be being naughty beforehand !

  • Appalling outline ! but i dont want to use draw reins, chambon etc !!!!?

My latest project is an 8 year old ex-trotter ! she is ridden in a loose ring snaffle and a grackle noseband and martingale !

her teeth , back etc has been checked and cleared ... but her outline is awful ! She sticks her nose in the air constantly , chews the bit like a green broke 3 year old - I have re-trained to ex-racers very successfully but she just refuses to work in a nice rounded outline ! any / all suggestions very welcome ???
