  • ODBC Driver Manager - data source name not found and no default driver specified?

    Hello,

I have some sort of application that is linked to a database in the same folder. I am pretty clueless technically however there is a batch file in the folder which I have to double click to Run, then the program pops up and off I go.

However I now have a problem. I am trying to put the application/program/whatever onto a 64-bit of Windows. Whenever I try running it, I get the following error message:

    Database access fails!

[Microsoft][ODBC Driver Manager] Data source name not found and no default driver specified

Does anybody have any clue as to what is causing this and how I could fix it?

    Many thanks

  • Complex numbers help please?

    z = (a + 3i)

    .....-----------

    .....(2 + ai)

    a) given that a = 4, find |z|.

I have got (√5)/2 for this bit, but can't do part b:

    b) Show that there is only one value of a for which arg(z) = pi/4, and find this value.

    Any help appreciated

    Cheers

  • USB mouse not working - help please?

I plugged it into the USB port, it claimed to have installed all the drivers but just doesn't work. The light on the bottom of the mouse is on and it appears to be powered ok (and in fact it works for a couple of seconds towards the end of the driver installation) but after that it just goes dead on me.

I'm using XP - any ideas?

  • FP1 question - roots of quadratics?

I've done the question but the answer booklet says I'm wrong. This is starting to frustrate me, considering I have done the question three times and got the same answer.

    The quadratic equation 2x² - x + 4 = 0 has roots A and B.

    a) Write down the values of A + B and A*B

    b) Show that 1/A + 1/B = 1/4

    c) Find a quadratic equation with integer coefficients such that the roots of the equations are 4/A and 4/B.

    I got:

    a) A + B = 1/2, AB = 2 (the answer booklet agrees with this)

    b) 1/A + 1/B = (A+B)/AB

    = (1/2)/2 = 1/4

    c) 4/A + 4/B = 1, therefore sum of the roots = 1

    4/a * 4/b = 16/ab = 8, therefore product of the roots = 8

    therefore the equation is x² - 1 + 8 = 0

However, the book says the answer is x² - 6x + 12 = 0. Have I made a mistake with my working?

    Thank you.

  • Brainteaser - prime factors?

    2008 Christmas Quiz, first question:

The number 2009 can be written in the form a^2 * b, where a and b are prime numbers.

    a) Find a and b

    b) Find the next two years which can be written in this way

    c) How many years during the present century have this property?

I did a) which worked out to be a = 7 and b = 41. How do you tackle the rest of it?
