I will be inheriting a home along with my brother through a trust. We plan to sell the house and split the profit, how is this taxed?
it is a revocable living trust. My brother and I are both the executors of the trust and the beneficiaries. Our dad is leaving us the house and doesn't want to put us on the title and his taxes will go way up as we are out of state.
4 AnswersRenting & Real Estate7 years agocould Apple disable stolen ipods?
Seems to me that if I report my registered iPod, iPad etc as stolen, apple could prevent it from ever being used again. I'm sure if Apple wanted to, they could keep anyone from ever using a stolen device again. This would discourage people from stealing these devices and hopefully prevent tragedies like what just happened in Vegas. A 15 year old kid was killed while trying to keep his iPad from being stolen. Is this really not possible, or is Apple just not willing to do anything?

Need a creative title for a school project. The "magazine" is on the cell theory. Any creative ideas (safe for use in a school project!)
3 AnswersOther - Arts & Humanities9 years agoDoes anyone really believe Romney won't show his tax returns because he values his privacy?
He is running for president of the US. His family, his kids and grand kids will all be under the microscope for 4 years or more. How can he agree to that and but feel his tax returns are too private.
Either he is waiting for a ton of crazy speculation so he can release them later when they won't look anywhere near as bad as all the rumors,
OR
they really are that bad and he really won't release them.
13 AnswersElections9 years agocan my employer change my status from part time to full time?
I've been working part time by choice for 4 years. I just received notice that I will have to go full time in two months. I know many would love to be in this situation, but I do not. I do not want to go full time, but I do not want to lose my job either. I was only told this verbally, shouldn't it be done formally in writing?
4 AnswersLaw & Ethics9 years agoMust I get permission to record my 6th grader's class lectures?
The teacher will not give permission because I have already accused her of harassing my son. I am going to continue to pursue this, but in the mean time my son is still in her class. I don't want to get him in more trouble by recording the class and them finding out, but I don't feel I can trust her or the school to do the right thing. Any suggestions?
7 AnswersLaw & Ethics9 years agoif the mandate is dropped, can we force those that use health care to pay their own way and not raise my costs?
Unlike broccoli, if you don't buy health insurance you still get health care should you need it. This raises the costs for everyone else. If the mandate is dropped, can we change the laws so that health care providers can take your home, car, savings so they can get paid?
12 AnswersPolitics9 years agoWhat makes Republicans think the private sector job creators will create jobs with no customers?
I can't think of any sector that will start hiring until there is an increase in demand for goods and services. Why do Republicans believe that the answer is to provide tax breaks to the private sector "job creators".
If we end the tax breaks for the top 2% in 2012 and provide the break to the bottom 50% of tax payers they will increase their spending and create demand for goods and services. Only then will business expand to meet that need.
The republicans want tax breaks but they want them for the wrong group.
21 AnswersPolitics10 years agoWouldn't we be better off if the tax cuts for the top 2% went to the bottom 50%?
It seems to me that we need people to spend more money. Business owners don't need tax breaks they need customers. If we gave those tax breaks to the people to live paycheck to paycheck they would spend every dime of it and that would cause business to expand to meet that increase in demand. I don't own a business, but if I did, I would want my potential customers to have more money to spend, a tax break for me wouldn't lead me to hire more workers, but more customers would.
Republicans just don't seem to get this. 10 points to anyone that can explain it.
15 AnswersPolitics10 years agohow can I fight this laboratory bill?
I have insurance with UnitedHealth care and we are contracted with lab-Corp, not Quest for lab services. My doctor, who is contracted with UnitedHealthcare sent a urine sample to Quest and now Quest is billing me over $130! Seems like my doctor's office made the error, why should I be stuck with this bill.
1 AnswerInsurance1 decade agoquestion for parents?
We just had an easter egg hunt contest with my 11 and 12 year old. My boyfriend thinks it is not a big deal to have the loser do 20 jumping jacks. I feel it is more fun to have the winner get something instead, like pick the movie or something. I feel his way is too negative for what should be fun, he just doesn't think it is a big deal....any opinions out there?
4 AnswersFamily1 decade agoWhy should we repeal the the health care plan?
Yes, I realize it is more health insurance reform, but what difference does that make as long as we all have access to health care.
Yes I realize my premiums may go up, but isn't that worth it to know that it will be there when I need and there are no loopholes that allow them to drop me should I become too expensive.
Yes, I realize it is expensive, but the COB (a non partisan committee) has stated it will save $200 billion in the first 10 years and over 1 trillion in the second.
Yes, I know the republicans dispute these figures but when I research their complaints they all come up as fabrications. the Doc fix is not part of the health care plan, the COB did not double count figures etc.
No, I do not want socialized medicine, but as neither the doctors, the hospitals or the insurance plans are government run under this plan I see no connection. there is not public option.
Yes, I realize health care access can be poor under socialized medicine such as England and Canada, but this plan does not resemble theirs in the least.
I just don't get it. Why are the republicans fighting so hard against something that one of their own put together in Michigan?
Why are republicans still claiming death panels just because democrats want to allow medicare to reimburse a doctor for the time he spends with a patient discussing their end of life plans. The government pays for heart transplants, open heart surgery, but they consider this a death panel? Look what that nut bag did in Arizona, she is letting people die to save $5 million a year and spends $50 million on prisons.
13 AnswersPolitics1 decade agoDo you really want medicare and social security cut?
You pay into these program you entire working adult life. Why would you want the government to use these funds for anything other than your medical coverage when you retire and your retirement funding when you hit 67? Why do republicans think they are more entitled than our seniors to this money? The republicans pushed for the tax cut on the wealthy, now they are going to pay for it by taking money away from our seniors?
7 AnswersGovernment1 decade agoIf you want the health care plan repealed, are you prepared for the result?
Do you really want a less expensive plan with a bunch of loopholes allowing them to drop you when you need them the most or are you willing to pay a little more to know you and your family will be covered if you really need them.
Keep in mind: there is NO public option, these are all private insurance companies competing for your dollar and the government subsidy. There is no government run plan, this is not medicare.
5 AnswersGovernment1 decade agoBusiness owners only please:?
What is more imprtant to growing your business; lower taxes at the end of the year or a customer base with more disposable income? Basically I do not understand why Republicans insist that the tax breaks for the wealthy are needed or we will kill jobs. Seems to me having more customers with money to spend will cause business to grow and hire more to meet the demand.
3 AnswersPolitics1 decade agoIf you are in favor of extending the Bush tax cuts?
to everyone, even those making over $250,000 per year, please tell me why. Is it because you feel they deserve to keep more of their money or do you believe it will help the economy. If you feel it will help the economy, do you have any evidence it did anything positive for the economy the first time?
21 AnswersPolitics1 decade agoIs there any evidence that the Bush tax cuts for the wealthy helped the economy?
If extending the tax cuts to those that make over $250,000 per year is really what is best now, wouldn't we have facts from when the tax cuts were first implemented that show their benefit? I don't think we should raise taxes on those who need the money to buy food/clothes etc but are those making over $250,000 hurting the same way those making less are? If the thought is that letting them keep more of their money will help grow the economy...show me the numbers. Prove it and you can have your tax cut. But if it is not there, what benefit is there is providing the tax cuts to those making over $250,000?
5 AnswersGovernment1 decade agoCan I finish my room addition and stop waiting for the city to approve everything?
I hired a contractor in December to do a 250 sq ft room addition. Once he applied for permits we learned I needed a variance. After 5 months and $1200 I had my variance. That was 4 months ago. The contractor and the electrician applied for and received permits, but the city is taking forever to approve things and it has come to a standstill. We are almost done and have been for over a month. Can I just kick them all out and finish it myself and tell the city to go to hell? I'm guessing the city is holding out as they want more money as they kept flunking the room addition for stupid little things. I'm sure my contractor has just refused to pay the fees, but he won't admit that to me. He has admitted that he is waiting on $$ from another project to finish mine. I know that is stupid, but I can't do anything about that now. I'm not willing to wait, I don't care if the city approves anything and my husband and I have the ability to the do the rest ourselves. Is there any reason I shouldn't just finish it myself?
5 AnswersDecorating & Remodeling1 decade agoIf the republicans could go back to 2001/2002 what would they do differently to prevent the housing crisis?
The housing bubble, caused by the private sector providing loans to people that could not afford their homes led to the bubble and then the bust which brought down our whole economy. Yet when I read about their most recent "pledge" I see nothing but the same policies that allowed this mess to begin with. What if anything would they do differently. Yes, I realize Fannie and Freddie were also at fault, but it was the private sector allowing interest only loans, zero down payments and adjustable rate loans and allowing individuals to buy more than one home as an "investment that did the most damage. These were not even an option under Fannie and Freddie loans.
11 AnswersPolitics1 decade agoPlease tell me how the Republican's "Pledge to America" that just came out differs from 3-5 years ago?
I don't want to hear how the democrats are socialists/marxists, I just want to know how going back to the policies that were in place during the entire Bush presidency will help now when they did nothing to prevent the mess we were in when the democrats took office. No health care reform, Bush tax cuts for all including the top 2% earners and no government regulation, not even for the private banks that gave us 0% down, interest only loans and adjustable rate mortgages designed to put people into multiple homes they could not afford. I don't see any new ideas just repeats of all the policies that led us to this mess.
