  • "Nothing to hide, nothing to worry about"?

    From Yahoo News:

    http://uk.news.yahoo.com/blog/talking_politics/art...

    IS GOOGLE INVADING YOUR PRIVACY?

Concern over Google's new Latitude software is growing steadily.

The programme allows users to sign up to Google, and have their location appear on friends' computers - as a blue dot on Google Maps.

The dangers are obvious. Stalkers or violent husbands could surreptitiously find out someone's location by throwing a phone in their car boot, for instance. Jealous lovers could install the software while their partner is taking a shower. Employers could force workers to use a Latitude-installed phone.

    .......................................

    Concentrating on the quote;

"Nothing to hide, nothing to worry about"

***Do you think this complacent attitude is the doorway that allows extreme political systems to rise up and overpower populations?

It was after all just that phrase that was used in Nazi Germany regarding the round up of the Disabled, Gypsies, Homosexuals and Jews.

This was repeated in the USA during the anti communist era where thousands of innocent people were vilified and imprisoned often for no reason and usually for a political belief.

It is probably said today in Tibet and a hundred other places.

The same thing is said all the time and it could be said to be true but when laws are changed (as have been in the UK in recent years) such a statement allows criminality to creep up on people and suddenly whole sectors of society can be penalised for just being what they are.

I can refer to the laws passed in the UK since 1991 against the Travelling community and Trade Unions .

*****So should such an attitude be allowed to prevail or should we be encouraging people to stand up against continued or potential infringements of our freedom?

  • why is it some men have a strong aversion to physical contact with another male other than beating them?

I just answered a question about whether I'd prefer a beer or a hug and the questioner was prepared to give both to the girls but would only shake hands with a man who didn't want a beer.

What does this say to you?

Is homophobia still a serious problem then?

I thought people had finally grown up in the world away from antiquated bigoted religions.

  • I have a sick hen and question that is too short..apparently!?

I have a sick hen, she's around four to eight weeks and I bought her as one of a pair last night. This morning she is listless and can't stand, her eyes are closed and there is heat in her crop though her vent is cool to the touch. She has moments of alertness and will move( or try) if harassed. At the moment she is lying in a sunny spot on her side and looking sorry for herself. Though she has settled herself next to the radio which I left on for her (Radio3 classical rubbish- then she is just a chicken). So apart from her distinct lack of taste in music she is not a well bird, the other bird, probably a cockerel is strolling around the yard tail up and happy.

I have met this illness before in birds I have reared as well as bought in, usually there is total mortality and even apparent recovery ends with death....assuming it is the same thing each time.

What, then is the problem and what should I do. Isolation is obvious and dripping water into her, keeping her warm and comfy may work but I should like to know how to deal with this. Oh and I don't know about her poo as she hasn't poo'd and she was fine and dandy when I looked at them where I bought them from.

The weather man today said that there would be a 'flavour of winter' to todays weather.

  • Who is Laura J and why has she connected to me?

Laura J has connected to me twice according to my emails, I cannot email her and I don't know who she is or why she has chosen to connect to me. Nor for that matter do I understand the concept of connecting to someone on this site. OK I am a bit new here so may be missing a blatantly obvious point but I am over 40 so a bit stupid with computers.

I am assuming she will read this and therefore answer and thus explain.

I am not concerned just inquisitive.

  • How do I connect my laptop to a PC to use as a server?

I have a PC which I would like to use as a server or at least additional computing space for my Laptop so I can run music on two sound cards and mix onto the laptop.how can I find this PC on my network. I have no monitor nor keyboard and have only a LAN cable to attach the two machines. I can remove the HDD and run that USB to add files or data to it before installing it in the machine. I run XP home on the laptop and could run XP/Linux or 2000 on th PC.

I need to access the PC wholly from my laptop and not the other way as I really don't want a second monitor nor all the ancilliary components strewn around the place.
