  • Homemade mincemeat question ?

I have made some homemade christmas mincemeat for the 2nd year running. I followed Delias recipe to the letter and still I can see set fat from the suet against the side of the jar now it's cold. It tastes delicious but that looks a bit off putting. I used lower fat suet this year as it happened last year. What am I doing wrong? Thanks in advance x

  • I would like a pretty tree for my UK garden?

I have a very small garden but would like a tree for it. An evergreen one that flowers at some point and the spread is concentrated at the top rather than all the way up. I want to buy it fairly mature as we have one window that overlooks our dining room window. We currently have a tree there but the only thing that is stopping this tree bending right over is the fact that it's tied to the fence :) I live in England. Any suggestions?

    Thanks in advance.

  • Can I use my shortbread cookie recipe to line a tart tin?

I make short bread cookies using 4oz butter, 2oz sugar creamed together until light and fluffy, mix in 6oz flour to form a dough, roll out and cut out cookies. I am wondering if I could use this dough to line a pastry case for a white chocolate tart? It looks like it should work, can anyone think of a reason why it wouldn't?

  • What is the best route to becoming a counsellor in the UK?

I am thinking about becoming a counsellor. i think bereavement would be the area I would start as that is where my life experiences lie currently. I have done some looking on the internet and think I may start with the Introductory certificate in counselling skills ncfe level 2. Are there any qualified counsellors on here that can advise me if this would be a good place to start. Even tho I am in my late 30's I only achieved basic grades at GCSE and I am not very academic, tho I am fairly intelligent - I learn better through doing than reading generally which is why I want to do an entry level course first to make sure I suit it and it suits me. Thank you in advance for any advice.

I have also responded to an ad looking for volunteer bereavement counsellors at my local cancer hospice. It did not say that experience was needed but that 3 months training would be given. Is this a good or even usual please to start?

Once again thanks for any help and advice given.

  • Good Digital/Video Camera for 8 Year Old?

My daughter would love a decent digital camera that also does a bit of video with sound. I would hope to spend around £80. Does anyone have any recomendations. Not the Vtech chunky toddler kind. Something a bit more grown up. Thanks

  • One Pot Family Meals?

Hi, I am looking for ideas for things I can cook for my family. My children eat before my husband and my husband sometimes comes home later than I expect and then I am hungry and want to eat before he gets back so I am looking for things that I can cook that can be ready at my kids dinner time but then will keep until later for my husband and I whenever we are hungry. Th type of things that work and I am cooking are mince/ground meat type recipes like spag bol or chili con carne, lamb stew or oxtail type stew, lasagne - but I am getting bored of these things and would like some new ideas please.

    Thanks in advance

  • Why does my laptop keep downloading the same 3 emails over and over again?

I have a new laptop running windows 7 and my email downloads into windows live mail. Everything has been working perfectly until today, now the same 3 emails are downloading over and over again. They are all from reliable and known sources, for example one is from microsoft - and I have run an up to date virus scan in case that was the problem but I am at a loss as to why this is happening. Anyone know?

    Thanks in advance

  • Drilled a Cable, is it dangerous?

    Hi There

while putting up some hooks i appear to have caught a cable with the drill. No drama, no flames but the kitchen switch tripped. I have been able to reset it without it tripping again and I have now bought a wire checker (I realise I should have done this first) and it has detected a cable - 1 inch to the left and would have been fine doh!

My question is, is this now unsafe. The swich is not tripping or anything. Will it start a fire. I will call my sparky on monday but is it more urgent than that?

Thanks for any informed replies I receive.

Any genius's on here that can help me. Thanks in advance

  • What can I do with broken candy canes?

Heres another silly question. I bought some candy canes today in preperation for hanging on the tree.My 4 year old son was so excited to see them he ran around the house with them and dropped them on the floor. Now they won't be hanging anywhere. Can i make anything with the bits? I'm sure I have seen a recipe for something (was it peppermint bark or something) on here before.

    Thanks x

  • Can I use melted candle wax to seal sweet mincemeat?

Hi there, I have just made some mincemeat. A spur of the moment decision and am now wondering how to seal the jars as I have no wax disks. Can I melt candle wax (have some tea lights knocking around) and use that to seal the pots? I cant get out to the shops so thats out. I have got some plastic from the inside of a cerial box but its not waxy just plasticy. Maybe I could put that on first and then candle wax. Any thoughts?
