2000 Saab 9-3 lifter tap or rod bearing?
Here is a video of my car and what it is doing. There is a tapping noise at idle that gets more frequent under load.

3 AnswersSaab8 years agoRod bearing or lifter tick 2000 Saab 9-3?
I recently bought a 2000 saab 9-3 from a shop for a $500. Back story of why the car is in their possession is they did a radiator job and then the owner never paid so he gave up the title. When I bought the car it was advertised with a lifter tick. I am thinking that maybe the previous owner overheated the car after blowing the radiator, got it fixed and then heard the noise and walked away from the car.
With that said, the car runs and drives ok aside from the noise. It sounds like a sewing machine. The noise is constant and gets more frequent with the engine speed. It has somewhat of a shake when in 5 gear at higher speeds but I think this might be an unrelated issue. My question is, am I looking at a bad rod bearing, lifter, warped head? I have driven the car 1000 miles since I bought it without any issues. It does burn oil and there is a pronounced smell after driving the car some distance

1 AnswerSaab8 years agoGoing to Paris for a girl? Am I an idiot for this? (girls only please)?
Looking to get a girls perspective so here is my story
I live in the US and I have dated this girl for 2 years that was madly in love with me. We lived together. I was 23 and she was 21. She is a daughter of a US diplomat and lived in Paris and France. She went to high school and college here in the United States but I could tell she was unhappy. Towards the end of our relationship I neglected her alot and didnt give her the attention she wanted. One Christmas she finally couldnt take life in the US anymore and decided to leave for UK/Paris.Ill never forget the morning that I kissed her goodbye and watched her cab drive off. I remember we made plans to keep a long distance relationship but it just didnt work out although we never broke up. Her father didnt want me to keep contact with her and she began her new life there. 2 years later and many girls later(relationships and one nights) I still miss her and cant imagine my life without her. We havent talked, as a matter of fact she blocked me on facebook and I have no way to communicate with her and I have not attempted to reach out. Every two months one of her friends requests me on facebook. I usually ignored it since I was hurt but recently I accepted it and wrote a brief message to her friend to pass along to my ex. My messages went unanswered.
I still cant get over her and considering buying a ticket to Paris (thats where she lives now) on an off chance that I might run into her, am I completely unrealistic?

4 AnswersSingles & Dating8 years agoLoud lifter tick on a 2000 saab 900?
I just bought a 2000 saab 900 with 156k from a shop that did a radiator job on it and then the owner couldnt pay so he turned in the title. The car has a loud lifter tick that quiets down just a bit after warming up. The shop also did an oil change so its clean. I am trying to get 3-6 months out of the car at the most so I could probably get away with driving it as is but I am thinking about replacing the lifters. I would say I am mechanically inclined, I have pulled transmission, alternators, starters, turbos ect but never opened up an engine below valve cover. Can I get away with just replacing the lifters or does the head have to come off? In other words, how extensive is the job?

1 AnswerSaab8 years ago1996 bmw 318is clutch pedal question?
I am considering buying a 1996 318is coupe 5 speed with 220k to turn into a track car. I test drove the car, the clutch doesnt slip but the clutch pedal is soft. I have a 02 protege as a daily driver thats also a manual but I get a lot more resitance from it. Are the clutch pedals generally soft on those bmws,I had a buddy with a saab that also had a soft pedal the same way even after a clutch job. Is this normal?
2 AnswersMaintenance & Repairs8 years agorough idle on 2002 protege?
Hey guys,
Just recently picked up a 2002 dx with 150k. The car runs and drives fine but idles rough. I get a CEL for random misfire p0300. I replaced the plugs, wires and coils, no dice. Cleaned the throttle body and the maf, still nothing. Replaced the egr valve, iac, tps sensor and still nothing. The only difference is that now the car will idle good until it warms up, once hot its back to misfiring. THe timing belt is brand new and I checked. One thing I did notice when double checking on the spark gap is one of the plugs is darker then the rest. Any ideas? I cant get the car through the smog test with the check engine light on.
2 AnswersMaintenance & Repairs8 years ago2002 protege misfire at idle?
I just got a 2002 Protege with 150k for my daily mpg driver. The car runs and drives fine when its under load but has a rough idle when stopped. The car has a new timing belt ( I checked). I replaced spark plugs, wires, coil packs, egr valve, tps sensor, idle air control sensor and mass air flow. No difference. What happens is when I do a repair, I take the battery out. It gives a car a chance to clear the ecu and when I first fire it up it idles fine, after 5 minutes of driving its back to bad idle. Any ideas? Since the timing belt was recently done, would a bad timing cause the issue? If so would it cause a misfire only at idle? The only code I am getting is p0300 which is a random misifire.
2 AnswersMaintenance & Repairs8 years agoRough idle on a 2002 Mazda Protege?
I picked up a 2002 Mazda Protege with 150k today. The car runs and drives fine but has a rough idle, feels like a misfire and a code p0300 comes up (random misfire). It acts rough only at idle but does fine under load. I replaced the plug, wires and ignition coils but the problem remained. I cleaned the maf and the throttle body (had it removed and cleaned good) and now the car starts but dies right away. If I give it a little gas it will stay on and it will drive fine but as soon as I stop it dies. I used the maf cleaner but I feel like I killed it. I also read on some mazda forums that egr valve causes a rough idle. I am just trying to gather some ideas. Please feel free to shoot me yours. Gas is $5 and I am trying to get this thing running on a budget. I cant get tags as I cant get it through a smog test with a check engine light on. Really hoping to get it fixed this weekend. Any help is appreciated.

3 AnswersMazda8 years agoQuestion for LEO and police officers?
I have a few vehicles that are registered to my company name (LLC). I let my employees drive my cars sometimes. When a police officer runs the tag, does my personal information pop up too or is it just the company name and address? When I registered the vehicles the DMV didnt even ask my for my license just the EIN from IRS. I am in Virginia
1 AnswerLaw Enforcement & Police8 years agoRough idling volvo v70?
I have a 98 volvo v70 with 113k, non turbo. I have a really rough idle that smooths out slightly after warming up but still rough. Orionally the car had codes for misfire and everything ignition related has been changed out. Fuel is good, spark is good. IAC and throttle body has been replaced. PCV and flame trap replaced. Still idles poorly. what I noticed is that the sas valve is supposed to push the excess gas from the top and sent down into the exhaust manifold. However I am getting the opposite, I have exhaust gasses getting pushed INTO the check valve. Since the valve only opens one way, the gasses get blocked off so I had a really gummed up sas valve that has been cleaned. What would cause the gasses to be pushed into the sas valve? clogged cat? I believe that my problem to rough idle. Anyone with experience please help

3 AnswersVolvo8 years ago98 volvo v70 misfire on all cylinders?
am having a problem with my non-turbo 98 v70. The codes I am getting are p300,301,302,303,304 and 305. Basically a misfire for every cylinder. It has a hard time idling when cold and I have to "warm it up" otherwise it will shut off. Once its warmed up I can feel a heavy misfire at idle but when driving its unnoticeable. So far I have replaced spark plugs (tried 2 different brands), dealer spark plug wires, maf, cap and rotor, swapped out an ignition coil and camshaft positioning sensor off my t5 and it still idles like rough. Also removed the throttle body and idle air control and cleaned it to showroom condition and still no dice. I need ideas and suggestions please. I have a 98 s70 t5 that I can swap parts off of for trial and error. Check engine light comes on only at city driving when at idle. I reset it this morning and made a 200 mile highway drive with no CEL but once I got in town it popped back up. Hitting a brick wall and need help
