I am an avid amateur photographer and a computer researcher. Before my computer started acting up, I didn't know much about electronics, but now I can usually talk circles around the average person...that is, if I can ever find an average person... : )
My computer DVD-ROM drive will not burn DVDs!!!?
I bought a replacement DVD-ROM drive a few months ago because my CD-ROM drive quit burning. The only problem is, I can't get it to burn any DVDs, even though it says that it will burn them.
It says DVD+RW on the front, and I got a pack of DVD+RW that will write at 4X, but nothing doing!
Every time I Go to burn one, it says "Illegal DVD", and refuses to burn.
What can I do?
2 AnswersOther - Hardware1 decade agoMy microphone won't record really loud!!!?
I bought a stand-alone microphone yesterday, and when I plugged it into my mic input on the computer, it would only record my voice at a whisper it seemed.
I discovered that the audio for the mic was set to "low", so I moved it up the the second notch from the top, and it is still really quiet.
What can I do? It's a NeXtech mic, and it cost about $20.00 CDN.
1 AnswerOther - Computers1 decade agoDo the Canon SLRs provide better HD movie recording than the Canon Vixia HD camcorders?
I'm having a toss-up between the Canon EOS Rebel T2i, Canon EOS 5D Mark II, Canon Vixia HV40, or the Canon XL-2.
I am aware that the XL-2 only offers standard definition recording, and that I'm mixing a cropped sensor, a full-frame sensor, a 1/2 inch sensor, and 3 1/3 inch sensors.
My problem is this: I want to get into cinematography as well as photography, but I have a limited budget. I am a stickler for quality, so they have to perform well to meet my expectations...But that's just me. :)
Any help would be great, as this is something I cannot really figure out. :/
I guess the answer may be obvious, but I can't decide.
THAT'S MY PROBLEM!!!!! :P
2 AnswersCameras1 decade agoWhy do people choose different camera brand names, and what is really the difference?
I use and love my Canon, but sometimes I wonder if Nikon is better. And Pentax, Sony, and Lumix...Where do they fit in?
I wonder if I should try out all of these different cameras, but the cost associated with each would make me broke on the first one! Any suggestions and comments on these thoughts?
I have used a Pentax film SLR (one about 30 years old), and a Canon EOS Digital Rebel XSi SLR.
4 AnswersCameras1 decade agoHow can I upgrade my computer?
I have:
~ Microsoft Windows XP
~ Service Pack 3
~ 512 MB RAM (It is completely filled with the largest RAM possible for the motherboard)
~ Intel Celeron (R) single-core processor at 2.66 GHz
~ 533 MHz single-channel Front Side Bus
~ 75 GB internal hard drive
~ 500 GB external hard drive
~ LG monitor (the kind with the florescent tube back-light)
~ A fan in the power box that likes rattling every time I turn it on.
I am planning on buying an iMac or MacBook Pro, but my sisters don't want anything to do with the Mac--even after I told them Windows can be installed beside OS X.
I am a kind brother, and want them to have a computer that doesn't freeze or complain on a regular basis, so should I bother with upgrading QWERTY, or just buy a new one with Windows 7?
Also, would a dual-core processor be powerful enough for high quality, full-resolution photos and some videos, or would a quad-core be better?
Canadian prices would be preferred, and as I dislike buying things online, links to actual stores would be better.
And as an afterthought. Would I be better off buying an entire unit or scratch-building one?
Thanks :)
2 AnswersOther - Computers1 decade agoWhy is the iLife suite from Apple so popular?
I'm curious to really know, as I am hoping to get a Mac within the next 2 years. Yep! Really long time, eh? Well...Does anyone know anyone who want's to give away a custom-configured 27" iMac with the i7 Intel processor, 16 GB RAM, and 2 TB hard drive? :)
3 AnswersSoftware1 decade agoLaptop or Desktop? 10 points best answer!?
I have decided that my next computer is going to be a Mac, but I have a problem. I can't decide between the MacBook Pro and the iMac. Any input on what you use and how you like it would be great! And as I am looking into video editing, I need to know if the MacBook Pro will handle the work flow. And why does the high-end iMac use a 512 MB graphics card, when all high-end Windows are using 1 GB and 1.8 GB graphics cards?
Yes, lots of questions, but I think the salespeople at Vistek and Henry's are starting to dread answering the phone! :)
5 AnswersDesktops1 decade agoWhich processor is better?
I have found that my computer needs to be upgraded, so I am looking at maybe scrap building a new one. The trouble is, I can't decide whether to go with Intel or AMD, and whenever I do, what quality (or speed) it should be.
I take a lot of photos, and do some movies as well.
2 AnswersDesktops1 decade agoIs Windows XP, Vista, or 7 better?
My home computer needs upgraded, and I just want to know whether I should stay with XP, or go to Vista or 7. I am also looking at Macs as I like the sound of the iLife suite, but for what I want, they are expensive.
Any help would be great!
7 AnswersOther - Hardware1 decade agoShould I stay with Windows, or switch to a Mac?
I have a Windows XP, with 512 MB RAM, 75 GB hard drive, and a Front-Side-Bus running a 533 MHz. I would like to get into video editing, and would like to know what operating system (Mac or Windows) is better for the job. Any suggestions?
7 AnswersDesktops1 decade agoHow can I upgrade the RAM when all the slots are full?
I had some maintenance done on my computer last fall, and they filled up the extra memory slot while they were in there.
3 AnswersLaptops & Notebooks1 decade agoHow can I speed up my computer? It is a 2005 Windows XP, with 512 MB RAM, and an Intel processor.?
I want to do some video editing, but I know for a fact that my computer is too slow. Any suggestions on what to do, and keeping everything in a low budget?
