The guy that wants to do the job for me said that Canadian maple is one of the top hardwood flooring out there. But I went to the store and they told us that Brazilian mahogany is better than that so I want to ask you for your opinion? Can you please recommend me other options.

  • Choosing an undergrad major, Civil Engineer or Mechanical Engineer ? Honest answers needed !?

Hello, I would like to help from engineers with my decision. ( in your most honest opinion and experience) Why did you choose Civil or Mechanical?

I have a week to choose my undergrad major and I am still confused, and its seems that I like both types of engineering.

I have always been passionate with cars ever since I was little and I always wanted to work in a place were I can design and talk about cars. I always wanted to design cars . But that has been it, I did not really put the effort to learn about cars and how they work. I only assumed that I would be taught in school. However, I still look at cars and I love everything about them. I wanted to become a automotive engineer.

However, when I was researching for information about automotive engineers I saw that the job market was very limited and that getting a job as automotive engineer was hard, specially when all the automotive companies started to reduce their staff, meaning that by the time a graduate I would be left looking for a job. So I decided to become a mechanical engineer since it gave me the option to go to the automotive industry if I wanted to, but it also give me the opportunity to work in other fields. Most of the car companies where based in the U.S, japan korea or Germany. That means that I had to compete with people that had probably better education that come from prestige university. And it would also mean that I would have to there.

Yet, when I was in high school I took a construction course and I saw that really like to work with materials and with my hands. it was more like a wood shop class but I enjoyed the parts where we had to use autocad and make drawings. I loved the things worked and the idea of working as a Civil engineer either in transportation or structural looks awesome to me, yet I took a course in uni about simple desings and we had to replicate a intersection of a road and LOVE it ! I felt in love ! going around talking pictures and working on actual things that involved the design. Again compared to mechanical I see that people are struggling to find jobs and that civil enginners are down upon and not that it is too important but civil engineers dont make as much as other engineers.

    Here are my strengths:

    - Good with hands on and visuals specially when it comes to design of things 3D.

    - I am okay with math and have fun learning about it.

    - I am not good at chemistry. I have trouble with chemistry.

    - I am okay with physics but i still struggle with it , however i am better at mathematics. The parts about physics that I love is when I get to do the experiments .

    - When it comes to group working, I am not going to lie I need to work with the skills.

Yet , when I went to my first year in uni I discovered that engineering was hard and that you can easily fail. But, my prof at high school told me that If i struggle civil engineer is easier , If i wanted to badly become an engineer. so I feel that if i choose civil engineering I would be cheating myself because it going to be easier and not as hard to work upon compared to other engineers. I also see how everyone makes in fun of civil engineers because is easier and how they struggle more compared to tp others find jobs right after university. I dont want to do it just because is easier! and I feel that i would go for it but the above reasons are stopping me.

So i dont know what to do ! HELP ! HELP !

someone please help me, this is stressing me out and I feel like crying because I feel that I am going to regret my choice in the future. please and thank you.
