  • How could I write a program or script that could search a USB drive image for phone numbers and/or email addresses?

The numbers/emails could be in allocated space or unallocated space, and there is no encryption

No specific language is needed, just any general idea of how to do this would be appreciated

  • What is the best method for randomly selecting from a set of objects that have different probability weights?

I have a C++ program where there is a bunch of spawn locations for the user to select and assign a rate to it between 0-1, so there amount of areas they pick will vary, and the weight given to each spot will also vary. What is a good method/formula to go about accurately handling this?

  • I m self employed (fairly recently) and haven't paid my quarterly taxes. Should I wait until tax season or pay now?

I started working at a small company last year and am "self employed" and my taxes do not automatically come out of my paycheck. I m young and didn t understand how this worked, and have not paid my quarterly taxes for any of the last half of last year. I now have my information to pay my taxes online (I ve been saving roughly 30% of each paycheck) but I wondered if I should just wait until I get my 1099 form and file my taxes to pay the income tax, or if I should go ahead and send in money now.

  • Astronomy/Physics question. Which of the following statements is true, and why?

Which of the following statements is true?

    a) you can have velocity equal to 0 but acceleration not equal to 0

    b) you can accelerate while maintaining a constant speed

    c) you can have velocity not equal to zero but acceleration equal zero

    d) you can have energy not equal to zero but speed equal to zero

    e) all of the above

The answer is all of the above, but why?

  • Which simulation does NOT describe an acceleration?

Which simulation does NOT describe an acceleration?

    a) a car traveling with constant speed on a straight road.

    b) a car traveling with constant speed around a bend.

    c) a planet orbits around the sun

    d) a car decreasing speed on a straight road

    e) an electron traveling around a nucleus

I know the answer is A. but Why is it only A? I also thought it could be B, but that is not correct. I assume the part about going around a bend will change acceleration even though the answer says it stays at constant speed?

  • Are there any way to make a candle burn at a faster rate than normal?

I'm in a situation that's difficult to explain. In short, I have a big candle (feels like around 20-25 ounces) and I have to have the thing burnt to the bottom in a certain amount of time. Are there any ways that I can make it burn faster? Would adding lighter fluid help? Perhaps putting lint from the lint trap of a dryer possibly make it hotter and burn faster (temporarily)? I know these are both likely stupid ideas but it's simply impossibly to have the whole candle burnt with the time restrictions and other restrictions I have on the project. Are these ideas, or any other ways, acceptable ways to make a candle burn faster?

  • Discrete Mathematics Help. Prove the given statement. If n is an even integer, then n² - 1 is odd.?

I posted the question on Chegg but I believe the answer was incorrect. In the person s solution, when providing information for the proof, they started by saying "x is an odd integer" and "x - 1 and x + 1 are even integers" which is obviously incorrect, because my problem states "x is an even integer" which would also mean "x+1 and x-1" would be odd integers. Anyways, how would one prove the validity of this statement?

  • Going through a pregnancy scare. Based on these facts, what is your opinion on if I'll be a dad or not?

So the girl I was dating last month texted me two days ago and said she's 5 days late on her period. She took a pregnancy test and it was negative. I was relieved. Now it's 7 days and she hasn't started her period. I'm started to get worried and so is she.

So here are the facts, we only had sex once, and it was literally the day after her period ended. When we did it, for the first 2-3 minutes we didn't use a condom (and she's not on BC). Then we stopped and decided to use protection. Then after several more minutes we decided we rushed into it and neither of us was feeling it so we stopped. So, I didn't even ejaculate. That was on December 18th or 19th, it is now January 22nd.

So here is what I'm thinking, if any sperm got into her, it was pre-***, which, yes, is possible, but unlikely that it would impregnate her. Also, she just got off her period and based on the research I've done, that's a pretty uncommon time to get pregnant. Also, it's not like we had sex a while after her period, we did it immediately after it ended, it's been like 5 weeks since that, so would that be enough time for the pregnancy test to pick up the hormones? Another thing is that she recently started working out and she completely changed her activities, which I've read can effect the menstrual cycle, so maybe that's why she's late.

I'm very paranoid right now, I just need some people to spell out the way things are looking for me.

  • Physics Velocity problem. What is the average velocity between t = 5s and t = 9s if the graph is at 12m @ 5s and 0m @ 9s. Slope is constant?

Is it as simple as (0-12)/(9-5) = -3 m/s? It has been a while since we did velocity and since we have progressed in physics and gotten into difficult stuff I have trouble trusting that a problem would be this easy haha

  • Linear algebra class help. Let V = {set of all quadratic functions passing through (0,0)} Show V is or is not a vector space.?

If someone could explain how to do this, I would be very grateful. Or, at the very least, explain to me what it means by "all quadratic functions passing through (0,0) because I don't know what that means

  • Apartment security deposit. Do both people pay the full cost, or can we split the $300?

A friend and I are getting an apartment. I have failed to have them clarify this, and although they have not said this, I have kind of been under the impression that I pay $300, and my roommate also pays $300 for the security deposit. But after talking with several people, they say that's not how their experience has been (with other apartment complexes). They say that the $300 fee will be split between us, which sounds much more appealing to me. Any idea on which way it will be? Or is it different depending on where you go?

    Calculus Line Integral Problem?

I'm just unsure how to do the problem. Is it as easy as just plugging in t^3 for x, t for y, and 3t^2 for dx and 1 for 1 for dy? or is there more than that? (#12) and then would #13 be the same way?

I know how to integrate, so that won't be a problem. I am just a little confused as to how to figure out what the boundaries for the integral are. I have a picture posted of my problem (#6)

  • My internet is flawless until I try to play a game, then it goes haywire, would a new network card/ wifi adapter help?

My internet is super good when I'm not gaming. Normal internet browsing and youtube watching is really fast and easy. But within a few seconds of me turning on a game to play, my internet crashes (note that it hasn't always been like this). Do you think that it might be that my internet card in my computer is weak and can't handle the large games and that maybe either upgrading or buying a USB WIFI adapter would help that? Or am I way off?

  • Playing any game at all on my computer causes my internet to crash?

I know this will sound weird, or maybe to someone it won't sound abnormal and they can help me, but every time I turn on a computer game, any computer game, my entire internet goes out around the house for about 10 seconds. even a game that is 100% offline and requires absolutely no internet connection will cause this. I have tested it and it seems to be the problem, although I am not sure at this point. But if I am off of any game my internet is completely flawless. But as soon as I turn on a game, even if it doesn't require internet access, it blows my internet out for a short time. This makes absolutely no sense to me so could I get any help on what might be the problem and possibly how to fix it?
