  • Why do reheated potatoes taste so bad?

Why is it that when you reheat potatoes in any form (roast, boiled, mashed etc) they always have a funny taste (what I call the reheated potato taste)? In a restaurant I can always tell if the potatoes have been cooked previously and then reheated because that have that distinctive taste. And it's horrible. Is there a scientific reason for this and does it have a name? Other people don't seem to know what I am talking about....

  • Has anyone else noticed these spammers?

There are a few members who keep spamming questions about "where can I find the best site with video about..." and then they mention some random French recipe (usually incorrectly spelt). There are a few others who start their questions with "can someone tell me the best site to find.." blah blah.. are these people fake? What's going on? No smart arsed answers please.

  • salt liquorice? Anyone?

I was at a continental fair recently and one of the stalls was Swedish or Norwegian and they sold sweets, including liquorice, one of which was a "salt" liquorice. It was delicious. Any ideas where I can obtain this in the UK?

  • when you boil a whole ham...?

..what is the white milky/soft cheese-like residue which gathers around the meat? I am not talking about fat: this has the consistency of the above and has little more flavour than salt. It is also not gelatine. Any chemists/food scientists know the answer??

  • african grey parrot bite?

I was bitten by one of the above (after it had lulled me into a false sense of security by "befriending me") and now I have pus in the bite. Obviously I know how to dress and antibacterialise it so no advice needed there: I am concerned with what kind of infections/ diseases these birds carry as my father is on immunosuppressants (and I am his carer) and my sister is having aggressive chemotherapy and I frankly do not wish to be a carrier of some obscure parrot-borne disease...

  • My phone fell into some water and obviously stopped working for a while...?

Now that the water has dried our from the camera and back of the phone, it is working. but the light does not come on so the screen is extremely dark and I can't read it properly. I am assuming there is a bulb of some kind inside so if this is damaged can it be replaced? Or, should I continue to wait and see if the light comes back after a day or two?
