  • questions on cancelled IVF cycle?

My first IVF cycle is almost certainly going to be cancelled. At retrieval we got 8 eggs, and 4 fertilized. But as of today (Day 2), the embryos have not divided. I'm getting a call tomorrow morning, but if anyone else has gone through this, I'm wondering: When and HOW will I get my period, since I have no natural progesterone? Should I stop taking the Medrol (steroid)?

I will talk to my doctor or a nurse tomorrow, but aside from being devastated these things keep nagging at me. Anyone who has any experience with this, I'd love to hear from you. Thank you.

  • Any advice on diet/endometriosis?

I just had a laparoscopy that confirmed Stage 2 endometriosis (mild). My doctor got rid of all of it. I have been TTC for a little more than 2 years with no success, including two IUI stim cycles.

I have heard and read various things about changing one's diet to slow the growth of endo. Has anyone had luck, or have any advice? I'm open to all information. Many thanks in advance.

  • looking for reassurance that post-IUI pain is OK?

I just did my first IUI cycle with injectibles (225-337.5 Gonal-F pen, Ovadrel trigger). I was inseminated yesterday morning and this morning. Yesterday I was a little crampy afterward but it went away in the afternoon. Today it hurts! I am very crampy in my very low abdomen--lower than when I get menstrual cramps. As of this morning I hadn't ovulated, so DH and I are "on" for tonight and tomorrow night.

Just looking for reassurance that this pain is OK. I had a nice response to the Gonal-F; about 8 follicles of good size. I'm wondering if I've now ovulated...

    Thanks!

  • Recovering from laparascopic surgery?

I will almost certainly be having lap in several weeks to check out my tubes (my new doctor isn't convinced that they're totally clear) and to see once and for all if I have endometriosis.

The surgery will be done on a Thursday, and he says I should take Friday off but will likely feel better by Saturday. I've read a slew of different responses online, but not all of these patients were gyn. Anyone had lap to check tubes/endo? How did you feel a few days later? I'm trying to figure out whether to schedule during a busy work week or a slower one.

    Thank you!

  • Looking for post-D&C support...?

At the end of this month I've been TTC for 18 months.

This morning I had a D&C with anesthesia (had a truncated one without 2.5 weeks ago that was cut short cuz it hurt too much) to remove polyps from my uterus. I had *just* stopped bleeding and *just* stopped feeling steamrollered, and now I'm back in that place of being crampy, bloody, and exhausted. And the best part? My doctor said she didn't even find any polyps, but the pathology "might show something." (I was too groggy to ask more and will do so at my next appointment.)

So now I'm wondering what the #*$&#* showed up on my ultrasound and HSG. Maybe I'm just infertile, and it's time to give up. This whole D&C extravaganza was small potatoes, and it still wiped me out and made me feel awful in all possible ways.

I know none of you can answer any questions, per se, but I just feel terrible today. Thank you.

  • Tampon OK after (partial) D&C? I'm losing my mind...?

-I was supposed to have a D&C (sans anesthesia) Monday. Doc had to dilate me cuz drugs didn't work, so I was dilated but cut things short before curettage because of pain. Have rescheduled for two weeks with general.

-I just got my period two days early.

-I am at work. I have to stay late ('til 10--another 3 hours in New York).

    -My doc's office is closed.

-There are no pads in the vending machine.

    -Everyone else has gone home.

-It is 10 minutes to the nearest drugstore, and I need to stay at my desk as much as possible.

Will one tampon kill me, or should I do a makeshift pad out of paper towels? I figure it's sanitary cotton in a wrapper; I'm not planning on swimming in the Hudson River. But I don't want to risk infection. Anyone know anything about this?

This week is getting so bad that I'm almost finding it funny. Oh, and I'm wearing light-colored linen pants.

    Thanks, all.

  • Looking for encouragement after halted D&C....

This morning I had a D&C scheduled to remove uterine polyps. I took Cytotex yesterday and Valium and Vicodin this morning (all prescribed), but the Cytotex didn't dilate my cervix enough, and the doc had to do it herself. It was excruciating. By the time she could see my uterus, I was trembling all over and my teeth were chattering. I had to make her stop, and I'm going back in 2.5 weeks to do it again with general anesthesia (an extra $500, which is why I skipped it the first time). I feel awful. Aside from the cramping, which is continuing, I feel like a wimp and a failure. And I probably won't ovulate for g-d knows how long. And I'll be bleeding for about a month between today and next time and can't swim for the rest of the summer (could risk infection), which is something that relaxes me and makes me happy...

I'm back in the bad place of I Will Never Have A Baby and I'm Tired of Painful Procedures. Would love some encouraging words. Thank you so much.

  • How do you handle OPK at work?

I work in a busy office with only one women's bathroom on the floor (I think I've been alone in there midday twice in two years). I've been trying to figure out how to get a cup and stick in and out of there during ovulation time. I live and work in NYC (no car to drive somewhere private), and public restrooms in my work 'hood are pretty gross (midtown, lots of tourists).

Anyone have any tips for handling this gracefully? Drag my big bag to the bathroom and pretend I'm running out? Wear very very loose pants to hide everything? Wear a "TTC 16 Months; Give Me A Break" t-shirt? Thank you!

  • Anyone had a D&C without anesthesia?

In three weeks I'm having a D&C to remove uterine polyps that showed up on ultrasound and HSG; doctor says there's a good chance they are preventing conception (TTC more than a year).

She is giving me Valium, Vicodin, and something to relax my cervix (Cytotex, I believe--scripts are at the pharmacy). I do have the option of general anesthesia, but it will cost me $500. She says it will take about 10 minutes and that I'll have cramping but it shouldn't be terrible. I am pretty tough about these things, but I'm nervous. Anyone have any experiences to share? I'd rather save the $500 for IVF if I need it down the road...

  • Anyone dealing with uterine polyps?

My GYN has been out of town for a few weeks, but today I finally got the results of my sonogram and HSG. Sonogram showed likely polyp on the uterine lining, and HSG confirmed. I have at least one biggish one and might have some smallers. I'm having a D&C in three weeks to remove them.

Evidently polyps can act like an IUD and prevent implantation, which would explain the times I really felt pregnant but got my period. But the doctor also said they may NOT be the problem.

In a way I'm happy that we found SOMETHING wrong, because I've been wondering what's taking so long--we've been TTC 15 months total, the last 6 months seriously and in an educated way.

Would love to hear from anyone who's had polyps removed, or just anyone who feels like saying "hang in there." I'm in that weary place again where I just want to put my head down. My cervix is tired of tests and procedures.

Good luck to everyone, and a great weekend.

  • Any tips for more and better CM?

After many many months and a lot of tests, I'm increasingly convinced that lack of cervical mucus is my problem, and that it's giving me a really small window for conception. I'm on evening primrose oil, and I just ordered something called FertileCM for Enhanced Cervical Mucus. Anyone have any other tips?

Background: I'm 37, so age could be a factor. I used to have the EW quality, but haven't seen it in a while. I recently weaned myself off allergy and asthma meds, which can be drying, but so far haven't seen any change.

    Thanks!
