  • Vegetarian - not wanting to hurt animals?

Okay so I'm an organic vegetarian and brought up an interesting idea at a meeting with friends over dinner today....

Some/most vegetarians are veggie because of the way animals are treated and how they are raised right? But then the vegetarians I know (except the exception of my best friend and I who eat organic) eat conventional veggies - which means it's covered in pesticides... Still with me? Okay well pesticides get into the air, into the ground, hurt the animals on farms not to mention conventional food also has GMO's (genetically modified organisms) Now - these obviously hurt not only the farm animals which vegetarians and vegan are protecting but also wildlife in general (and us when we ingest it all)! The animals we work so hard to protect are also fed GM and pesticide laden foods....

Now my question is this - if you are vegetarian or vegan why aren't you eating organic foods that don't pollute, destroy, and kill not only the environment but the same animals you are trying to protect?

  • Watch this video - what do you think?

It's a bit lengthy but I'm interested in your feedback about this FOX NEWS (huge news channel in the US) It's about "MILK and BGH (bovine growth hormones) BGH is banned in Europe and in Canada but the US still allows it for their animals....

  • Drinking water? Is that all people are looking at?

    1. How come people only seem to be concerned about their drinking water?

It seems that a lot of people think "bottled water" is better - even though it's tested only once a year? Not that tap water is any better with all the chemicals used to clean it - including chlorine and things they can't get out of the water...

    2. I just wonder why the people who drink filtered water or bottled water cook with tap water - why?

    3. Why do people wash their foods, bathe, shower in regular water when showering your body absorbs a hell of a lot more water through your skin than the few glasses you drink a day...?

    Here's a link: http://heartspring.net/water_filters_shower_chlori...

It says: "Chlorine is a toxic chemical. It is used in water treatment to reduce and kill forms of biological agents, such as bacteria and viruses found in water systems. Chlorine is harmful to you when you drink it and when it is absorbed into our skin and inhaled into your lungs when you shower. It has been estimated that the "shower steam" in your bathroom can contain up to 100 times the amount of chlorine than the water, because chlorine evaporates out of water at a relatively low temperature. If you bathe or shower in unfiltered tap water you are inhaling and absorbing chlorine into your body."

Are people just not aware of it?

  • Why are there so many ignorant people?

I need to know LOL There are so many ignorant people and in all honesty they are starting to get annoying...

    Here is an example:

I know a woman who has a child - she did drugs, drank alcohol and partied when she was 15 - her boyfriend was in his early 20's and they weren't using any "protection" - she discovered she was pregnant 3 months into her pregnancy all the while doing drugs, smoking, getting drunk... So her poor child obviously has problems - he not only has one kidney, no teeth enamel, lung problems but a learning disability and speech issues...

She has never left the city she's from, has never taken her child anywhere - won't even allow him on school trips... She lives in a house with her grandparents and uncle who all smoke (despite her child having all his problems) last year the poor kid (he was 6) had a burn mark on his arm from running around his house when someone was smoking - apparently he ran into a cigarette someone was holding - and the uncle in the household is a drunk!

She sends me spam about health things like "cancer" causing dioxins in water bottles... LOL Somehow I think that's the least of what she should be concerned about....

So tell me, I'm no genius, but I do have my head on tight.... What the hell is wrong with people like this? and what can I do to avoid having to hear these stories from these people...?

    Ugh - HELP LOL

  • Milk - does a body good?

Long questions LOL but I am curious.....

Okay so I see people asking about milk and what we think about it... I never see anyone else posting about the Bovine Growth Hormones, or Steroids, Antibiotics, etc being pumped into "conventional cows" Why is that?

How come this stuff never comes up in the posts? Are people that unaware of what happens to the cows at the massive cow holding (because most of them are not in barns) centres? Or the fact that they are not fed "grass" (which is what they would naturally eat) but are fed grains, animal by products, pellets with hormones etc... Why is it that Europe banned the import of meats from Canada and the US decades ago and has banned Gm foods altogether - yet people in the US & Canada aren't doing anything here to stop it?

  • Swine flu = lab fopa?

Okay, I am a vegan and would love to blame the conventional farms and the vast number of hormones, gmo's, steroids and really unhygienic living conditions but this time I think this is a man made virus... A well known Doctor friend of mine said that while pigs and humans can transmit to one another - it is virtually impossible for birds to transmit any viruses to humans or pigs - yet the new "flu" is a mixture of Human, pig, and BIRD material from 3 continents!!! (It's also in the news)

What do you think? The World Health Organization (WHO) is changing the name from "swine flu" because it has nothing to do with PIGS - not one pig has come up with an infection in Mexico or elsewhere... (also in the news articles)

"GENEVA - The World Health Organization will begin referring to the swine flu virus as "influenza A (H1N1)," the United Nations health agency said on its website Thursday." From web-site: http://www.canada.com/Health/changes+swine+name+in...

Do you think it maybe a lab fopa? Specialty drug maker Baxter International Inc. is being investigated along with a few other labs that are suspect...

    http://qwstnevrythg.com/archives/8064

If this is a lab blunder - I really don't think washing our hands and wearing masks will do much... Your thoughts???

  • Are you concerned about the water you drink?

This is actually a couple of questions in one and my neice is doing a project on public awarness of non-filtered water.... So please bear with me.... ;~) Thanks in advance,

Are you concerned about what it in the water you drink? Why?

Studies have shown that there are tons of chemicals that cannot be removed and some that are also added when the water is "cleaned" at the water planet... Including chlorine, lead, mercury, medicine/drug residues etc... Another interesting thing is while the water plants deem the water safe when it leaves their plants it does come through some old pipes (some could be lead) underground, and your house pipes as well before making it to your sink, shower, etc....

If you are concerned about the water what are you doing to counteract it? Are you also using a water purifier when doing the dishes (by hand) and when you take a shower?

"Americans are becoming more aware of the contaminants in our nation's water supplies and many are installing water filters to purify their drinking water. Yet most continue to bathe and shower straight from the tap, unaware that inhaling unfiltered shower vapors (steam) is more harmful than actually drinking the water itself. During a shower, toxic chloroform evaporates into the surrounding air you breathe. The Center for Study of Responsive Law's, Troubled Water on Tap report, states that over 2,100 contaminants have been found in drinking water. Of those 2,100, 190 are known to cause adverse health effects. In total, 97 carcinogens, 82 mutagens and suspected mutagens (cause cell mutations), 23 tumor promoters and 28 acute and chronic toxic contaminants have been detected in U.S. drinking water."

    Thanks again everyone! :~)

  • Any other good quotes?

Anyone else have any good enviro quotes? no links please just post a few ;~)

I'll start it off with these:

The new American anthem should be:

"Oh Beautiful for smoggy skies, insecticided grain,

For strip-mined mountain's majesty above the asphalt plain.

America, America, man sheds his waste on thee,

And hides the pines with billboard signs, from sea to oily sea."

    ~George Carlin

"It is horrifying that we have to fight our own government to save the environment." ~Ansel Adams

"The activist is not the man who says the river is dirty. The activist is the man who cleans up the river." ~Ross Perot

and one more for good measure ;~)

"Humankind has not woven the web of life. We are but one thread within it. Whatever we do to the web, we do to ourselves. All things are bound together. All things connect." ~Chief Seattle, 1855

  • It's interesting to me is it to you....?

I have always found it interesting that the same people who drink "bottled" water or have "water filters on their taps" & the "plastic filtration jug" in their fridges...

    are sometimes....

the same people that take baths & showers in unfiltered water with the chlorine, lead, and other contaminants in the water and don't realize that it's actually more harmful because it seeps into your skin and gets absorbed.. Not to mention that the chlorine steam from showers are carcinogenic...

    * * * Interesting isn't it? I just wondered how many people actually think of this point.... * * *
