  • The best man to quote in politics?

A leader has the vision and conviction that a dream can be achieved. He inspires the power and energy to get it done.

A society that has more justice is a society that needs less charity.

Addiction should never be treated as a crime. It has to be treated as a health problem. We do not send alcoholics to jail in this country. Over 500,000 people are in our jails who are nonviolent drug users.

  • (Read carefully) Conservatives and Liberals what are you really? Why?

    Main Entry: lib·er·al·ism

    Pronunciation: \ˈli-b(ə-)rə-ˌli-zəm\

    Function: noun

    Date: 1819

1 : the quality or state of being liberal

2 a often capitalized : a movement in modern Protestantism emphasizing intellectual liberty and the spiritual and ethical content of Christianity b : a theory in economics emphasizing individual freedom from restraint and usually based on free competition, the self-regulating market, and the gold standard c : a political philosophy based on belief in progress, the essential goodness of the human race, and the autonomy of the individual and standing for the protection of political and civil liberties; specifically : such a philosophy that considers government as a crucial instrument for amelioration of social inequities (as those involving race, gender, or class) d capitalized : the principles and policies of a Liberal party.

Liberalism (from the Latin liberalis, "of freedom") is the belief in the importance of liberty and equality. Liberals espouse a wide array of views depending on their understanding of these principles, but most liberals support such fundamental ideas as constitutions, liberal democracy, free and fair elections, human rights, capitalism, free trade, and the separation of church and state. These ideas are widely accepted, even by political groups that do not openly profess a liberal ideological orientation. Liberalism encompasses several intellectual trends and traditions, but the dominant variants are classical liberalism, which became popular in the 18th century, and social liberalism, which became popular in the 20th century.

Not to be confussed with but simular to.

Classical liberalism was a political ideology that developed in the nineteenth century in Western Europe, and the Americas. It was committed to the ideal of limited government and liberty of individuals including freedom of religion, speech, press, assembly, and free markets

    Main Entry: neo·con·ser·va·tive

    Pronunciation: \ˌnē-ō-kən-ˈsər-və-tiv\

    Function: noun

    Date: 1952

1 : a former liberal espousing political conservatism

2 : a conservative who advocates the assertive promotion of democracy and United States national interest in international affairs including through military means

Neoconservatism is a political philosophy that emerged in the United States of America, and which supports using modern American economic and military power to bring liberalism, democracy, and human rights to other countries. Consequently the term is chiefly applicable to certain Americans and their strong supporters. In economics, unlike paleoconservatives and libertarians, neoconservatives are generally comfortable with a welfare state; and, while rhetorically supportive of free markets, they are willing to interfere for overriding social purposes.

    Main Entry: con·ser·va·tism

    Pronunciation: \kən-ˈsər-və-ˌti-zəm\

    Function: noun

    Date: 1832

1 capitalized a : the principles and policies of a Conservative party b : the Conservative party

2 a : disposition in politics to preserve what is established b : a political philosophy based on tradition and social stability, stressing established institutions, and preferring gradual development to abrupt change; specifically : such a philosophy calling for lower taxes, limited government regulation of business and investing, a strong national defense, and individual financial responsibility for personal needs (as retirement income or health-care coverage)

3 : the tendency to prefer an existing or traditional situation to change

Conservatism (Latin: conservare, "to preserve") is a political and social philosophy that promotes the maintenance of traditional institutions and opposes rapid change in society. Some conservatives seek to preserve things as they are, emphasizing stability and continuity, while others oppose modernism and seek a return to "the way things were."

  • Conservative vs Liberal vs Moderate, read carefully which are you really?

Who ever here that said "CONSERVATIVE POLICIES THAT MADE THIS COUNTRY GREAT!" is speaking Hog wash! By the definition the conservative would first off never have left his european country for religious freedom, a true conservative would never had broke from the colonial power in which was controlling the colony. A conservative would never had wanted the average citizen the right to bare arms and allow them freedom of speech or a democracy. a True conservative by definition would never have wanted such "progressive changes".

    Main Entry: con·ser·va·tism

3 : the tendency to prefer an existing or traditional situation to change

The Liberal is what made it great.

    Religious freedom: Liberal

    Right to bare arms: Liberal

    Freedom of Speech: Liberal

    Main Entry: lib·er·al·ism

    Pronunciation: \ˈli-b(ə-)rə-ˌli-zəm\

The bottom line is that if it was left up to conservatives we would still be a colony that was only allowed to worship one religion and would have to awnser to the king or queen. It was the Liberals that broke us away from that.

  • Brett Favre should always have been a viking?

He has me convinced. When he was a packer I respected him, but hated him at the same time. Now that he is a Viking I was sceptically thinking he was coming to Minnesota to screw us just to help the Packers, But OMG his best season and a great season for the Vikes. After watching his press conference I have a belief that he just wants to play. He wants to do good, will he? That's another question. As a Viking He seems at home, win lose or draw. Thank you green bay for letting him go. I just hope we beat you guys twice again... that in it self for most Vikings fans means a successful season.

  • Would it be good for promoting American Ideals?

On the WTC site would it be good to have each major religion represented to show our belief in Religious freedom? Wouldn't it just irk those terrorists that we put a mosque, a synagogue, a church, a temple... whatever else right next to each other? Would that not actually promote America's founding fathers ideals of religious freedom and show the world we are sincere about it?

If we allow the terrorists to dictate to us how we live wouldn't not allowing a religious institution on site play right into their hands?

They have already effected our liberty with that patriot act, wouldn't taking away religious freedom be just another piece of fodder for them and sad for us? We have pride in my country for our "freedoms", why would we take them away?

Sure people are mad about 9/11, understandably so, so why don't we put up sighns that say no terrorists allowed? Wouldn't that sorta fix the whole muslim being related to terrorism debate? Lets embrace our brothers and sisters no matter the religion and shun the terrorists and exactly what hurts them the most; promoteing equality, freedom, liberty, democracy.

  • Civil Unions not Marriage?

Should the Government stay out of religion? Marriage is a religious thing, between who ever that religion decides to marry. Shouldn't a Civil Union between two consenting adults be recognized instead ... as far as the Government is concerned? Why should I care what other people do in the sack? Why should the Government say just because I am a man married to a woman I get more rights than two women or two other men can get?

  • Why do we pay subsidies to large corporations who already make billions a year?

Every one needs a little help from time to time, while we give billions to those who already have it we give billions less to those who have nothing. An example being subsidies compaired to welfare. We give 15 to 35 billion a year to Big oil alone depending on the year (that's not including all the other subsidies), and we spend 20 billion on welfare and unemployment (a few bad apples but most are deserving struggling people.). Shouldn't we just not cover the export tax, and charge the same tariffs that countries charge us for trade? Or better yet maybe we should charge an import tariff on all goods produced outside the United states to make it the equal price of what it would cost to produce within the united states, would it be possible?

  • Is this the definition of modern conservatives in the USA?

Today's Conservatism is a mental disease. It's primary cause is the cowardice born of extreme self-centerdness. Too afraid to admit the existence of the forces of evil which will stop at nothing less than genocide, the lConservativedeludes himself into the comforting fantasy that these forces of evil are merely victims and that they can be brought around by 'right action' on the part of the US. The conservative then blames the anything non "American", and any patriotic Americans for the state of affairs. The conservative further comforts himself by believing that, in attacking America, he is battling the forces of evil like a true hero.

Anyone who points to the factual errors in this mode of thinking is forcing the conservative to confront his own cowardice and irrationality. That's why they react with such hatred to anyone who disagrees with their dogma.

As this dogma gets reinforced through decades of repetition in the media, it gets more and more pronounced. Today's conservatives have thus become traitors whose cowardice has led them to make common cause with the enemies of America and big NGOs. They have willingly become enemies of America.

  • Who said it was reagan?

"I have spoken of a thousand points of light, of all the community organizations that are spread like stars throughout the Nation, doing good. We will work hand in hand, encouraging, sometimes leading, sometimes being led, rewarding. We will work on this in the White House, in the Cabinet agencies. I will go to the people and the programs that are the brighter points of light, and I will ask every member of my government to become involved. The old ideas are new again because they are not old, they are timeless: duty, sacrifice, commitment, and a patriotism that finds its expression in taking part and pitching in. 16

We need a new engagement, too, between the Executive and the Congress. The challenges before us will be thrashed out with the House and the Senate. We must bring the Federal budget into balance. And we must ensure that America stands before the world united, strong, at peace, and fiscally sound. But, of course, things may be difficult. We need compromise; we have had dissension. We need harmony; we have had a chorus of discordant voices. 17

For Congress, too, has changed in our time. There has grown a certain divisiveness. We have seen the hard looks and heard the statements in which not each other's ideas are challenged, but each other's motives. And our great parties have too often been far apart and untrusting of each other. It has been this way since Vietnam. That war cleaves us still. But, friends, that war began in earnest a quarter of a century ago; and surely the statute of limitations has been reached. This is a fact: The final lesson of Vietnam is that no great nation can long afford to be sundered by a memory. A new breeze is blowing, and the old bipartisanship must be made new again.

  • With all the people on here complaining about Obama, they must be unemployed?

If so is that why there is so much bitterness? Why are they not looking for work? or better yet creating jobs? or better yet something productive other than complaining about Obama on Yahoo? I have never needed to collect unemployment so I am not sure how that whole thing works but I am assuming they are mostly mad since Obama couldn't get congress to extend their unemployment benefits. I sympathize with all you all but dang blaming him for ever thing is like Dems blaming bush for everything with the exception that everything actually got screwed because of Bush and with Obama things are turning around...Minus the census layoff this last month. If your pissy about not working I hear fruit pickers and stuff continually have to hire illegals since no one wants those illegally underpaid jobs.

  • Why does England all ways refer to 1966 as if it applies to today?

Been living here in Europe a while and whenever there is a England football broadcast 1966 comes up time and again. Actually I am pretty sure the English have had only 3 good world cups since 1930 (made final 4).... The English are the most over rated team in the sport today. Reason being the whole Primere league hypes the British born players and makes them marketable. Meaning big salaries, Meaning big names, meaning they look good on paper and are arrogant and over confident. In actuality the could probably play for any south American league as a second stringer. I have nothing against the English with the exception of this fact, and how they need to come back down to earth.

The only teams that can claim Greatness is Brazil and Germany....finals reached almost everyworld cup since 1930 by one or the other. Italy...well they have the best actors next to hollywood. ( I am not sure if Italy should try for academy awards. oscars, or olympic diving medals.)
