  • Would I like Shin Megami Tensei 4?

I want to know if it is worth playing? My only experience with the SMT series is Persona 3, 4, and Innocent Sin.

Innocent Sin was my favorite because of its fantastic story and gameplay.

I liked Persona 3 next. The gameplay was superb, and the battle system is my favorite from the entire series, though I did think the story was terribly thought out and poorly told.

Persona 4 is my least favorite (but that's not saying much). I loved the story, but I thought it was badly paced, and the characters didn't have enough depth (save for Kanji and Naoto). Also, battle changes really hurt the gameplay for me. I thought the instant analysis was stupid because it gave you no info and forced you to guess what spells to use, and the escape feature was stupid because it forced you to wait like 4 turns for Rise (a character who isn't even there) to find an opening.

Based on my taste in those games, do you think I'd like SMT4?

  • Is the media to blame for George Zimmerman's trial?

What the media taught me: George Zimmerman brutally murdered Trayvon Martin, shooting him in cold blood. Zimmerman is obviously a racist and this was clearly a hate crime. Zimmerman getting acquitted is unfair and unjust.

What my research taught me: Zimmerman was attacked by Martin, who had previous runins with the law. Zimmerman shot in self defense, and was deemed innocent.

Is anything the media says to be believed? Did the lying media almost get an innocent man locked up? Or did Florida courts screw up and let a murderer run free?

  • Please recommend an anime?

    I am new to anime.

So I recently checked out Persona 4 The Animation (upon completing the game) and I fell in love with the style of anime. I'd love to watch more, but it's a big genre and hard to delve into head first.

So far, here is everything I've ever seen anime related:

    P4 The Animation

Pokémon (original series, as a little kid; never knew it was anime)

    Paprika

    Miyazaki films

That's it. I love the story of Persona 4 because it balances the supernatural fighting with real life problems. Keeping that in mind could anyone recommend me an anime to watch? Please include a basic intro to the plot (i.e. Persona 4 is about a group of teenagers who must save a rural town from a sadistic serial killer while balancing their teenage social lives. Short and sweet, with no spoilers)

  • Resultant pitches in music?

I find the concept of a resultant pitch really cool. Basically a resultant pitch is a musical "illusion" where the listener hears pitches that aren't being played. For example, given a 2 note harmony, the resultant pitch that they hear has a frequency equal to the higher note's frequency minus the lower note's. I was just wondering if any major classical composers utilized this property of sound to create certain effects? For example, are there any composers who chose really tight harmonies with the intent of producing pitches that are octaves lower than physically possible? Do composers ever write music with resultant pitches in mind or do they occur coincidentally?

  • American studying in Canada?

I'm a US citizen, born and raised. I am extremely interested in the University of Toronto simply because it is exactly the type of school I'm looking for, and US schools on par or below cost way more. Also, I'm extremely interested in traveling and experiencing different cultures, but this opportunity seems too good to be true.

As an international student who only has citizenship in the United States, would I be at a disadvantage if I attended a Canadian school? Would I need to apply for citizenship? How long could the "politics" of the situation take if I do have to get a visa?

UofT is easily my #1 school and this is a difficult decision to make so any insight at all would be much appreciated! :)

  • Math major/music minor?

I'm caught in a love triangle with math and music! I play classical piano and jazz and classical saxophone. But I've always been exceptionally well at math and find almost everything about it interesting. I would like to major in math and become a high school math teacher, but I know I would never want to give up music. I was thinking of minoring in music and maybe becoming a lesson teacher simultaneously or at least as a fallback. But would I get anywhere with a minor? Should I devote my minor to something more math-related and just play music as a hobby? And is there any possibility of a double major?
