My friend was molested when she was 5, she's 38 now. She wants to have the guy prosecuted, can she?
My friend was molested in 1975 in CA, by a male who was her mother's boyfriend at the time. She remembers his full name and all of the horrible details of the multiple rapes/ assaults she endured. She never told authorities at the time because she was afraid to lose her mother or be taken away. She has many issues in her adulthood which she realized come from her childhood molestation.6+ years ago she went to therapy and discovered her emotional issues connected with this. She is only now ready to move forward and tell authorities. what would be her first step?, secondly, since she told her therapist of the matter 6+ years ago did that start the clock of statute of limitations for a civil case against the person? Does she have standing to press a case both criminally and civilly as well? Most of all she wants him to go to jail because she knows most likely he did it again to others but we didn't find him on sex registry which means he probably hasn't been caught.
