  • small Ethernet Network speed question. 10/100/100 network router speed vs 1.0 Gbps PC Ethernet port speed?

    small Ethernet Network speed question.

we have fiber optic internet into building but I'm not sure of speed. (maybe irrelevant for question below)

we have a dell 2716 network router. 10/100/1000 (not sure what those numbers mean) please explain

the computers (intel i7 x64 bit, 3.50 GHz.) have Ethernet ports with speed of 1.0 Gbps.

do these run at the same speed, or is one of them fast/slower then the other.

we are looking to get the network as fast as possible and need to know if we should upgrade our network router, our PC Ethernet ports, neither(because they run at the same speed) or both(because they are both slow

  • are all network data cables the same or do some offer faster data speeds?

we have a small office network with only several computers and a few printers. each comp or printer is connected to the network box with its own data cable and we can print to any printer from any comp.

we are moving office locations and questing the cable we are using now.

the new office has the network outlet plugs in the walls and they go to a closet with the network router.

but we will need to hook up the wires from each comp or printer to the wall network outlets

the ones we are using now are at least 10 yrs old and say "fast cat 5, 350MHz+, Premium LAN. type CM/MP

are all network data cables the same or do some offer faster data speeds ?

is what we have pretty decent or old /slow and outdated ?
