  • Identify this Mai Tai?

I'm looking for a Mai Tai recipe that matches this description of a drink me and my wife had in Maui:

It was lightly-colored if not clear at the bottom of the glass, a golden orange color towards the middle and black on top.

The black is dark rum floated on top for certain but I can't figure out the rest. It wasn't too fruity or limey and also didn't bite of alcohol. It's been stumping me for a while. We had it at the Drums of the Pacific Luau at the Hyatt in Maui.

  • Maui Luau Mai Tai?

Okay so I'm getting desperate and hope this question finds the right person.

My wife and I went to Maui for our honeymoon and went to the "Drums of the Pacific" luau at the Hyatt hotel. We LOVED the Mai Tai's there but I *CANNOT* duplicate or find that recipe anywhere. I've tried multiple versions I've found online but they are all very different than what we had. I've tried trader vic's and it was too "weird" tasting, I've tried the pineapple/OJ versions and they were too juicy. Ours was almost clear at the bottom and gradually got darker as it went up. I know dark rum was floated but that's all I know. It wasn't colorful at all but it was extremely tastey and didn't sting of alcohol like I expected.

Anyone know popular Maui recipes? Maybe even this one in particular? I'd love to serve these to my wife on our fast-approaching anniversary as an unexpected surprise.
