  • Help with buying a graphics card?

Holy cow! This is only the 700th time this has been asked today, right? Right, so with that in mind I'll try to be fairly specific in my request.

I got into the Titanfall beta for PC and according to the spec sheet, I'm just BARELY scraping by in terms of GPU. I easily clear the recommended specs on everything but GPU where I just barely meet the minimum. It's affecting the game performance and it's annoying. At the same time, I'm also doing some video editing on the side so the card that I buy also needs to be able to handle HD rendering. It doesn't have to excel at it, but it also shouldn't crash and burn when it comes time to export. I'm not buying the GPU just to play Titanfall, I'm doing this because it's opened my eyes in terms of how dated my GPU is.

I have a budget of around $200 and my PSU right now is around 300(?)W maybe 500W I'm not positive. The computer itself isn't that old and I'd rather put a few hundred bucks in parts to keep a relatively new i7 kicking rather than buy a whole new machine.

This is my current card: http://www.geforce.com/hardware/desktop-gpus/gefor...

    The GT 520.

This is what I'm currently looking to buy: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N8...

    The GTX 660.

Is the 660 a decent card overall and can it handle some of the more modern games at a somewhat reasonable resolution? Will it burn out my PSU? Am I wasting my time and it'd be better to just grab a $100 card from Best Buy and just toss a new one in each year? And last but not least, is there another, better, card in my price range I should be considering?

So, I call upon the community of Yahoo! Answers, can I get a little help in picking a new card? Any help at all would be appreciated, thank you!

  • Need a capture card, not finding any good reviews?

I'll start with some background. I'm trying to record component video from my Xbox 360 (like a lot of people) and I'm trying to record it on something other than my current DVD recorder so I can get HD. The problem I'm facing is that each capture card I've looked at is getting scathing online reviews. I can't seem to find one that isn't getting raked over the coals by people. I'm using a Mac to do the capturing and I've looked at primarily the BlackMagic Intensity Shuttle and the Happauge Gaming PVR. My issue with the Happauge is I can't see on their website exactly how my Xbox would connect to the unit. I don't have an HDMI for the console and their website says the cable is "not supported." With no other clear option, that doesn't seem to be a route I want to go.

Reviews I've seen on the BlackMagic haven't been nice. I'm seeing reports of black screens, even with inputs other than the HDMI and issues with videos not working in programs. Plus, this capture card is about $230 in the Thunderbolt version, and trust me, I'm not too excited about dropping that amount of cash on something that I don't know will work.

In the end, I've got about $250 I'm willing to drop on something that will work with my Mac that has decent capture quality. I'm using Adobe Premiere to edit, so I'm not too worried about the videos not being compatible. If anyone has a card that works well that they'd be willing to link me to, or has experience with these two cards and can ease my worries some, it'd be much appreciated.

tl;dr version, What's a halfway decent capture card for my Mac for about $250? Thanks so much for any help!

  • A little help with the Sega Master System?

I bought a Sega Master System on eBay and I'm really stumped here. I've got a few issues that hopefully someone can help me with.

My first issue stems from the AC adapter. It only seems to work when it's been messed with a little bit and has a bad habit of power cycling the system (where it will just cut out and then cut back, like hitting the reset button). I couldn't get a Genesis power adapter to fit (model 1 or 2) but that just could be I was afraid of giving the system too much power and shorting it, so I didn't try very hard.

One more issue I'm having is that the controllers only seem to work after they've been plugged in for a good minute or so. They sometimes decide to only work when they feel like as well, and it's EXTREMELY annoying. This happens with both controllers, in both ports. The lightgun doesn't work either, but that could be because the controller ports are messed up and it would explain why the normal controllers seem to barely function as well.

I'm getting to the point where I'm about to just take the thing apart and fix it myself. The games work fine just the AC adapter is finicky and the controllers barely work. Any help from anyone or is this a normal thing for the Master System? I don't have a ton of experience with this system, so any help is appreciated. Thank you!

  • Civil union instead of marriage?

Here's my current thought process. Since separation of church and state is considered a Constitutionally protected right, then church and government should wholly be separate, yes? Ignoring this fact, the Constitution kicks in whenever a person infringes on the right of another person. Since churches don't want to marry gays (infringing on their Freedom of Religion), and gays deserve the right to equal protection, then marriage should theoretically fall under entrapment, and should be unconstitutional. In other words, marriage violates either the Equal Protection clause, or separation of church and state, it's your pick. Keep in mind that marriage is a religious institution. So here is my question.

Why don't we remove the (state) government backing of marriages (keeping in mind the Constitution does NOT give you the right to marry, only the right to equal protection) and move to a state backed civil union? The civil union gives you all the rights of being married (marriages previously backed by a government being grandfathered in and considered legal civil unions) but is not backed by a religion. Therefore, as long as two people (A "person" being referred to as a human being, ergo, no animals, objects, foreign entities or intangible ideas) want to be a legally recognized couple (remember, it's 100% equivalent to a marriage, just with equal protection in all 50 states) then they can be. Divorce would be a civil separation and carries identical consequences (division of objects and equal custody of children, unless arranged otherwise). I must be missing something or this would have been brought up by now. Marriages are still allowed under a church, but they have no legal backing, and anyone who gets married after the law is enacted must get a civil union to be legally recognized as a couple. Is this not a fair compromise?

  • Somebody stole from the store I work at?

I'm a cashier at a major grocery chain (would rather not disclose which one) and at the end of my shift, somebody stole about $28 worth of groceries by running their card, dashing without the receipt and then the card got declined. My manager saw the very end, where the card was processing and the woman was leaving. When her card got declined he ran after her, but couldn't get to her. Both my manager (front-end manager) and the store manager said it was not my fault. I'm hoping this doesn't come back to bite me in the ***. So, what normally happens after a theft like this occurs? Could they dock my pay because I didn't do a good enough job in protecting their loss? I'm fairly new (30 days) to the job, and don't want to jeopardize my job before I've even had it for a period of time.

  • Missing JDK on a MacBook?

Okay, so clearly I don't know a ton about Macs. I'm trying to use the program JGrasp, which is the editor of choice for my college. It has a Mac supported version, and I've installed it, but when I go to load it up, I get an error message:

Java failed to start. Executable was:

    /System/Library/Frameworks/JavaVM.framework/Home/bin/java

Your Java installation may be corrupted,

or may not have a "java" binary.

This shows up in the JGrasp control shell. I've updated my Java, and I have the latest update from Apple. This is a brand new MacBook, and I'm almost positive I've set everything up right, but I'm clearly missing something in the Java area that's causing this to get all screwed up. Anybody here familiar with this issue, or know what I'm missing? Thanks!

  • Good cigars for a beginning smoker?

I'm currently smoking Swisher Sweets Little Cigars (Grape flavored) and they are ok. Really mild, not a ton of good flavors. I mean, they taste okay, but I'm looking for something better. I was considering trying something like an Empresario Churchill Maduro. I saw a review on it and the guy said it was mild, but had some nice flavors and was a good smoke for the price. Regardless, I don't wanna buy just one cigar, I'd like to get a sampler. Anybody know of any good samplers to try? Also, if you are just going to comment on how bad smoking is, please keep it to yourself. I am aware of the health risks associated with smoking, and I wish to continue. If you have some constructive comments to make on some good beginner smokes, your answer is appreciated. Thanks!

  • Converting coaxial to anything else?

I love vintage game consoles, what I don't love is the fact that most of them come standard with RF switches, which is lame. So, what I am looking to do is convert the coaxial signal to pretty much anything else. Is there a way to do this without a VCR or set-top box or something? I'm looking for like a cable, or an adapter. Thanks!

  • Using steel wool on NES games?

I wandered in to my local game store that sells vintage games and every time I bought some games (I end up buying, like, 6 because of their buy x get x free stuff) they would rub the contacts with what looked like the dirtiest q-tip ever. I later discovered that this stuff is actually steel wool. First off, I don't touch that stuff because it literally explodes with all that metal fiber crap and I hate it, but why would you clean game contacts with it? Alcohol works WAY better, and doesn't leave crap all over your games. It explains why I keep having to clean the living Christ out of my games to get them to work AT ALL, let alone well in my finicky *** machine. So, does anybody use this stuff? If you do, why? I'm not hating, I'm just curious.

  • Why won't the special moves work in Street Fighter 2 (SNES)?

So, I must be missing something. I looked up some move lists (what a PITA) and cannot get any of the special attacks to work more than maybe 10% of the time. Give me any Mortal Kombat on any platform and I'll rock it 'till next week, but Street Fighter 2, the only way I have a chance is to crank down the difficulty, which is dumb as hell. I can do grabs and upper cuts but no dragon fists or spin kicks and it's starting to get on my nerves. Any help?

  • What is Occupy Wall Street about?

Alright, so, I've been looking into (at least, trying to look into) what Occupy Wall Street is about. I don't want media BS, I don't want any interpretations. What exactly is Occupy Wall Street about, and what exactly do they plan to do to enact change? We have a global movement here, and I want to know whether to be excited for change, or to just watch the world burn. Thank you for any help.

  • Information about the '78 Penn Yan tunnel drive?

I've asked a question about this boat before on here, but only about value. After doing a bit of Googling, I found that this boat is unreliable, slow, hard to manuever and horrible on gas mileage. I also found out that they have great get up and go, are good in shallow water and are also pretty nice for wake boarding and tubing. It does have a Chrysler marine (don't know if it's the 350) so my question here is whether or not this boat would be worth my time and money. I am going to primarily wakeboard and tube with this vessel, maybe just do a little "hanging out" and take it cruising. I don't want to dropping tons of cash on stupid stuff that could have been avoided (like a blowning head gasket over head gasket) by just buying another boat. He's going to want around $5000, so anybody have any experience with these boats?

  • Penn Yan Tunnel Drive boat value?

My uncle recently acquired a 1978 Penn Yan Tunnel Drive boat. It needs a little work, but I'm currently helping him with it and plan on buying it from him. The question is, how much is this boat worth? I'm not asking for any real specifics, but just a general range. I checked the NADA guides and couldn't find Penn Yan in their manufacturer list. Hopefully somebody knows about how much these boats are worth.

  • What is the difference between these 3 Sandy-Bridge processors?

    i5 2400

    i5 2500

    i5 2500K

Other than price and clock speed, what is the difference? I must be missing something because states are all the same (as far as I can tell) except for clock speeds. Same with the i7 line. Is there a real difference?

  • Car leaking brake fluid leads to?

So I currently have a '96 Ford Thunderbird. A few months ago (Mid-January) I had a ball joint fail on the front drivers side. Took it to a place my parents take both of their cars. Fixed it up, checked the front and back end. Said it was all good. So, yesterday I discovered my brake line was leaking fluid. No big, take it back to the shop. They want $1100 to gut my brake lines and fix a compression spring and they say the whole front end is rusted out. They say it's not worth it to fix it. Where the hell does this come from? All of sudden it went from good, to being a scrap car. Engine is great, it runs good still, the only issue I had was the brake line. Obviously they know what they are doing but it still seems odd to go from good to bad in 3 months. What do I do? I live in Western New York so salt is an issue, but how can a car go from good to scrap? So, now what? Clearly I don't have $1100, and obviously buying a new (used) car is out of the question. Do I get it fixed? Take it to another shop? Help please!

  • Combo amp line out to combo amp?

I'm a bassist for a band and currently play on a Crate B40XL, and it's a little 12" 40W RMS/100W Peak combo. I'm going to get a Fender Rumble which will be a 100W RMS/150W Peak and was wondering if I could line out of the Fender and into the Crate for a bit more power. I know the Fender won't line out 100W, but would this work? Would I get more sound or would it just sound like ****? Thanks!
