  • Need baby boy name ideas!?

My husband and I have vastly differing opinions on good names for a boy. He prefers "strong, solid" names like John, William, Michael, etc. Only problem is we have a ridiculously common last name, and since our first names have been in the top ten for the last 20-25 years, I would prefer something a little different for our kid. I don't want our kids to grow up with two other kids in their class with the same name. That said, I am not a fan of weird, trendy names for boys. I'm hopelessly stuck here! Any suggestions? Here's a short list of names I like that might inspire more.

    Theo

    Milo

    Connor

    Jaxon

Please, nothing in the top ten. Jaxon is about as close as I want to get.

    Thank you!

  • tips for flying with a lap child?

i'm flying in june with my baby who will then be 3 months. i've been doing some research about flying with children, and i'm having a difficult time finding tips for flying with a lap child as young as my daughter is. (i would put her in a seat next to me, but unfortunately that triples the cost of the flight, and i just can't do that. i want this trip to be as painless as possible for both of us, and any tips i can get would be great. also, we're flying southwest, so if anybody has any personal experiences with flying with children with them i would be glad to know.

here's my plan so far. i need to take her car seat with us to use at our destination, but i'm not planning on taking her stroller, as it will be more work than it's worth. at this point i'm planning on checking her car seat along with my suitcase and carrying her in a sling through the airport and on the flight. i'm filling a diaper bag with diapers, wipes, bottles, pacifiers, etc. but is there anything else that would be helpful? i'm considering bringing children's tylenol for her in case she freaks out on the plane and i can't calm her down. is this a good idea or not? i'm just pretty nervous about this whole thing, as she is so young and my husband will not be coming with us so i will be short a pair of hands and a lot of moral support. any tips you can give me (minus buying her her own seat, which is not an option) would be much appreciated!

  • milk substitute in banana bread?

I ran out of milk and need to make banana bread tonight. I have no normal milk substitutes (powdered milk, soy milk, etc.) and I can't go to the store tonight. I only need 1/3 cup, and I think it's just to moisten the batter. Will water work okay?

  • is there a fairly simple way to create a shared network between computers?

i want to be able to have a shared network between my husband's laptop and mine, maybe with the option to connect our desktop. is there a fairly straightforward way to do this using wifi and no weird cables? i'm decently familiar with computers but if this isn't going to be fairly straightforward then i'll come up with another way to do what i need to. help!

  • middle names for elise?

my husband and i just found out we're having a girl, and we started talking about names today. the best one we've come up with so far is elise, but i can't come up with a good middle name. it needs to be two syllables with the emphasis on the last syllable or three syllables with the emphasis on the middle syllable. also open to other name suggestions, but looking for those names specifically. we're looking for names that aren't crazy popular, i.e. jessica, britney, kayley/hayley, etc. anything else that's not hippie-ish, crazy foreign, or hard to spell and/or pronounce is totally welcome. last name is davis. thanks!

  • Pregnant, little desire to eat, help!?

I'm about 7 weeks pregnant. I haven't had any morning sickness really but I get queasy really easily and quickly lose the desire to eat, so i often skip meals or don't eat much. I'm really worried about this. If I weren't pregnant it wouldn't be as big of a deal, but I'm supposed to be eating about 800 extra calories a day, and I'm eating less than I should be even normally. How do I overcome this? I really want a healthy baby and want to be able to eat normally too. What do I do?! Thanks in advance

  • how to tell my parents when i'm pregnant?

i've been married for 5 months now, and my husband and i are trying to have a baby. my parents, particularly my mom, were really upset that we got married as you as we did (i'm 20 and he's 23). anyway, we talked about it before we got married and decided that we wanted kids right away, then decided to wait a year, then decided a few weeks ago that we just don't want to wait anymore. we're both in college but have steady jobs that pay well. the problem is, though, my mom has told me multiple times that it is a very bad idea to have kids before we graduate and whatever because we won't be able to support a kid and i'd have to drop out (which i wouldn't) and that would be horrible for me not to have a degree and whatever. i know it's going to be really hard, but i think it's going to be very rewarding and i really don't think we'll regret it. so this isn't really a question of whether or not we're having a baby now (because we are going to), i just have no idea how to tell my mom when i do get pregnant. she was not happy when i got married and i'm so scared she won't be happy when i'm pregnant, which are like the two most important things to me. how can i break the news to her in a way that won't end up in a family feud? help!

  • Should I try dyeing my hair?

I've never dyed my hair before, but I've always kind of wanted to try it. My dad is a professional hairdresser (and straight, thank you), and when I was younger he pretty much scared me out of ever dyeing my hair myself. I would go to a professional, but I really don't want to have to upkeep it that much. Plus it's really expensive. So if I do dye my hair, I'd probably use that non-permanent stuff that lasts for about a month. Any suggestions or comments? I'm not sure if I want to do this, so if you have please tell me about it (did you like it, how effective was it, what brand you recommend, would you do it again, etc.). Anything else I should know if/before I do it? Btw my hair is a light brown, and I'd probably go a little blonder or maybe a little darker and redder.

  • two part baby name question?

My husband and I are pretty sure we're going to start a family in the next month or two, and I'm already working on names. :) Here's what I've got so far that I definitely like. Our last name is Davis.

    Girl: Avery Claire (nn Ava)

Boy: Parker Miles or Joshua Bennett

I'm thinking about other names though, particularly for girls. Here's what I've got that I'm thinking about:

    Atlee

    Gabrielle

    Gabrie

    Kylee/Kylie

    Lana

    Natalie

    Rianna

    Rylie

    Amelie

    Jade

I'm not really finding many interesting-ish boy names I like, so any suggestions would be great. I'm not a big fan of biblical names for the most part, nor anything super foreign-sounding or really strangely spelled. But hey, I'll at least consider all suggestions. Thanks!

  • opinions on baby names?

My husband and I are starting a family soon, and I'm jumping the gun and thinking about baby names. Here's what I've come up with so far. Please rate/comment and if it tickles your fancy, suggest others you think I might like.

    Girls:

    Emma Jade

    Emma Lee

    Avery Lee

    Avery Claire

    Avery Rae

(I am aware that Avery is considered a boy's name, but I prefer it as a girl.)

Harper Lee (I am also aware that Harper Lee wrote To Kill a Mockingbird. That's intentional.)

    Alexa Lee

    Lydia Rose

    Jade May

    Jade Marie

    Jade Lynn

    Jade Lee

(I'm considering pronouncing Jade as Jay-dah for a first name. Thoughts?)

    Boys:

    Chandler James

    Chandler Cole

    Jason Alexander

    Jackson Alexander

    Jackson Carter

    (Jackson vs Jaxon: thoughts?)

    Joshua Parker

    Joshua Bennett

    Joshua Ryan

    Bennett Gray

    Bennett James

    (Bennett vs Bennet)

    Jonathan Cole

    Parker Miles

I'm looking for some not-so-traditional one-syllable middle names for boys and girls. Any suggestions?

    Thanks in advance!

  • not sure what to do about this?

This question isn't exactly relevant right this second but it's been bothering me for a bit. My husband and I are planning on starting a family soon, and I really love the name Emma if we have a girl. The problem is that my best friend has been planning to name her daughter Emma if she has one, which isn't going to be for several years at least. We somewhat simultaneously decided we liked this name several years ago, but it was never an issue because we were in high school. I don't know what to do! Should I let her have the name or should I not even worry about it? Also, she doesn't know that I'm really considering the name Emma because I don't want this to become a problem if it doesn't need to be. The more I think about it the more I think I should just not use the name, but I love it! Help!
