  • Is this because of my anxiety disorders?

Hi, I've been diagnosed with social phobia, generalized anxiety disorder, and chronic depression.

When my anxiety gets really bad I go into derealization and/or depersonalization and I hear I guess you could say voices, its more like mishearing though, I hear everyone talking about me. Everyone in the room is calling me crazy and such, its a frightening experience but i'm rather used to it.

Also, sometimes when I'm the same as above I go into the depersonal/dereal but this time I cannot understand anything anyone is saying.

I dont know if i'm forgetting english or they're speaking some other language but everything is a mumble jumble or gibberish and I cant pick out anything that makes sense

I was wondering if anyone experienced these before with anxiety disorders.

They are frightening me and the psychiatrist doesn't seem to care. I'm on medication for my anxiety but it isn't working at all so that's why I'm worried if these things really have to do with SAD or GAD

Dont say I'm psychotic or something, Its only psychosis if I am unaware that its all in my head. at least that's what the shrink told me.

  • does this sound like schizotypal personality disorder?

I understand the majority here arent professionals and even if they were it'd be probably impossible to diangose me online

I just want to know if my ideas are on track here

I found this schizotypal assesment test, basicallly its a guide for psyciatrists to ask to help determine if someone is has SPD or not.

I filled it out here are my responses, give me your opinons please?

Have you ever found that people around you -- who seem to be talking in general -- are actually making comments meant for you? If so, how did you find out they were talking about you?

Yes. I've heard it, though i've verified that they arent actually sayiing those things, i'm hearing things differently than others

When you walk into a room, do people stop talking or begin acting differently? Does this happen often?

    Yes, pretty often

Have you ever experienced someone in charge changing the rules specifically because of you but would not admit it?

Kind of? maybe, idk? Like...teachers do more group activites when i'm in their class...

Do you sometimes feel like strangers in public places are looking at you or are talking about you? Why do you think they are taking particular notice of you?

    Yes, they think i'm crazy.

Some people talk about having ESP or mental telepathy; they feel like they can sense what is in someone's mind or predict the future. Have you had experiences like this? Very often? Have these experiences become important in your life?

Yes, phophetic dreams, not so often anymore; at least one or twice a year. They arent that big of a deal mainly because I cant always tell the difference between regular dreams and phophetic ones until after the event happens

Are you superstitious? In what way? Does this influence decisions you make? Do your friends or family share these superstitions?

Religious wise...yes, in a way. I'm very paranoid whether or not I will go to heaven or hell and the things that will send me to hell. My family isnt so into religion as I am, neither are family friends, only one of them is

Some people believe they can influence the weather or the outcome of ball games just by thinking about them. Do you believe that you can make things happen just by thinking about them?

    Yes actually. Yes, sometimes.

Do you believe in curses, omens, hexes, voodoo, witchcraft, magic, or other similar things?

    Yes.

Have you ever sensed that there was some unusual force or presence close to you? What do you think caused this? Has it happened often?

Yes, the shadow people. It happens very often

Have you ever experienced the world around you looking different than it usually does? Can you describe what it was like? What do you think caused this to happen?

sometimes it seems busier but other than that not reallly...no clue what caused it

Do your eyes play tricks on you? For example, have you ever seen someone's face or body suddenly change in shape or form?

    Kind of..yeah i guess so...

Do you ever mistake noises for voices or shadows for people? Does this happen often?

    Yes very often

Have you ever experienced people who pretended to be your friends taking advantage of you? What happened?

Yes. I cut all ties from them as soon as I could.

Do you find yourself trying to figure out what people really mean instead of taking what they said at face value?

    Yes

Do people tell you that you read too much into things?

    Yes

Do people tell you that you take offense at things that were not meant to be critical?

    Yes

Not counting your immediate family, do you have any close friends in whom you can confide?

very very few, like...one or two but not 100% usually I only tell 50-70% of the issue

Do you generally feel anxious around people? What makes you nervous? How bad does it get for you?

Yes. When people surround me, get in my personal space, talk to me, talk about me. It varries, sometimes i'll just get really nervous, like...heart pounding, sometimes panic attacks start to come, and sometimes i'll cry

    -

Here in a nutshell are my symptoms aswell for a wrap up

    Ideas of reference

Odd beliefs or magical thinking that influences behavior and is inconsistent with subcultural norms (e.g. superstition, belief in clairvoyance, telepathy, "sixth sense", or bizarre fantasies or preoccupations)

Unusual perceptual experiences, including bodily illusions

    Suspiciousness or paranoid ideation

    Abnormal behaviors

Lack of close friends or confidants other than first degree relatives

Social anxiety that does not completely diminish with familiarity.

    Also

I have been already diagnosed with anxiety and depression a year or so back

and have been suffering from depersonalization and derealization within the past year.

Thankyou for taking the time to read this.

  • Why do teens seem to think throwing expensive equipment will make it work better?

I just dont get it, why?

I see kids at my school with smashed up phones, cracked screens, chunks of their Ipods missing!

How can someone be so disrespectful to such expensive technology? Why do they seem to think throwing their phone at a wall will make it work better and then when it gets worse they wonder why?

    I mean seriously, its annoying.

I'm 16 myself and I cannot understand what is going through their minds when they do those things.

    Anyone got any ideas?

  • Can anxiety cause hallucinations?

    Visual and Auditory

Visual wise, for over a month now, I've been seeing shadows and shapes of people out of the corner of my eyes, seeing security cameras, and stuff like that. ....the shadows i'm not so sure are fake though, they're the shadow people, i call them, they've been bothering me for a while but just started to show themselves a bit more over the past month or so.

Auditory, this one is new, but twice so far i've heard people whispering my name, like...male and female voices overlapping, there have been people around for it, but not enough to be the cause of it, I mean...it was like surround sound terrifying.

Second one I just prooved, I've been hearing people say things that they're not actually saying

Like, I recoreded the audio for a class at school and played it back and I heard someone call me crazy, plain as day. So i clipped that part of the audio and sent it to trusted friends and ask them what they heard and they couldnt hear her say any words, only a cluster of voices since it was loud in the classroom, then i told them what I heard and they still couldnt hear it. This has been lasting for over a month or so, actually I have no idea how long.

    Anyways, can anxiety cause this?

I dont want to jump to conclusions and freak out thinking i'm schizophrenic or something since I promised my therapist I wouldnt diagnose myself.

So, just kind of watned to know your opinions to give me a little peace of mind.

    So yeah...anxiety = hallucinations yes/no?

  • My therapist set me up to see a psychiatrist, what to expect?

Well I told her about 90% of whats going on

and she's concerned, thinks i'm a bit out of touch

She set me up to see their psychiatrist.

She said that he/she was gonna just talk to me and ask me some questions

    I'm just wondering...what should I expect?

I'm really nervous so...knowing what to expect might help a bit I think

  • Paranoia vs. Paranoid schizophrenia?

So uh...I was wondering if you could read my ..symptoms, and tell me if they fit more with paranoia or paranoid schizo.

I've had some..um...'symptoms' that have been here for a while, thought i'd ask around.

I really don't see a problem except, I do know my avoidance of people and excessive suspicions to my friends shouldn't exist , but when i asked my mom or my friends about things they say i'm crazy so.....yeah

I don't know if all of these are symptoms of Paranoia or Para. Schizo. but they're just things that are considered abnormal..I guess?

I'm not delusional or anything, I feel my reactions and views on situations are the appropriate.

Sometimes I dream things before they happen, its getting less and less frequent as I've aged

Whenever someone walks past me, laughs in the same room as me, or even look in my general direction I think their talking **** about me

I tend to lose my train of thought in mid sentence and need to be reminded what I was talking about quite often. I have to take time to figure out what i'm gonna stay word for word before I actually start saying it or I tend to mix up word order like "nice name he has" rather than "he has a nice name" no star wars jokes intended with that

also I sometimes say wrong words honestly thinking they fit properly in my statements, I don't realize it was wrong until someone say "What?!" example: "what size shirt do you wear again?" me: "Orange."

I'm being spied on, I don't know who, but they watch me though my windows in my house and though my computer.

I tend to flip out over little things like if someone just asks me to focus or to do something

I have panic attacks sometimes when i have to go out in the dark, or if i have to go to a social event because I know someone is out there who is going to harm me

There is a person that's in my basement that is going to murder me or something if i go down there,or he might come out when I'm home alone, he hasn't yet but I know he's there, he just hides when anyone goes down there.. I can hear him moving around at night

there are ghosts of some sort in my house, I cant see them, but i can feel them around my room when i'm trying to sleep

I don't have many friends, because I've very suspicious that they're out to get me secretly.

I try to avoid social contact other than some online conversations with other people

um...that's all I can really thinking of

there might be more things, but I cant think of any thing else right now

so um...please look at that and tell me which fits best..I'm curious

    and you know parents

They're convinced that i'm trying to give our bank account to the person giving me money. I've told them its papypal getting it but they're still skeptical

so is there a way to accept the payment without verifying it?

  • Have I offended them?

near mid-august I became penpals/friends with a Japanese teen. We chatted on Skype and even voice chatted a lot. Near the end of the month we were still friendly and he didnt show any signs of negativity for me but he just was never online.

I didnt me never as in...online once i week

I mean never as in NEVER

I send a message on skype and it shows he's offline and the message doesnt send.

He's been like this since the end of august.

If this had been the first time I've had this problem i would have just blown it off.

A few years back i was talking with a different japanese pen pal we talked for about the same amount of time and then she suddenly stopped replying to my emails.

Maybe i'm just paranoid, but I kind of sense a pattern here.

Anywho i'm wondering, is this a japanese way of politely showing that they dont want to talk to you and don't like me or am I simplly paranoid?

    Thanks ^^|||

  • Is this weird? Thinking not always in words?

    Is this weird?

Majority of the time my thoughts are words.

But certain words or phrases my mind will not 'say' instead it spells out the word or phrase

Sometimes irrelevant items are associated with words or phrases also.

    Examples

When ever i see the words though, candle, kill, cake and many other words I'll think them as T-h-o-u-g-h, c-a-n-d-l-e, k-i-l-l c-a-k-e

    or

for some odd reason when I hear the words "to rule" an image of a blueberry muffin comes to mind. (I also find that quite odd concidering I hate blueberry muffins)

    To sum up the question

Is this form of thought normal or weird?

  • Please hurry. How can I help my friend?

I have a friend that lives in quebec. She sent me an email earlier saying some things about having family issues. I'm not going to post the entire letter, just some important stuff.

"I want to die I'm hearing my parents yell at each other insults each other. My dad insults me to he say that I am stupid and that everything I like is Useless and Stupid. He's yelling at me and I'm crying in front of my computer. Desperate isn't it? I don't know what to do I want to go at my friend's house but my dad won't let me and he's threating us. He say that he will "go away" and that we'll realise who's the bad one after. I want to die I don't know what to do I'm saying the same thing over and over again. I can't handle this anymore...."

I told her to call the police or something and that he shouldn't be abusing her or her family verbally. from what she said I cant tell if its physical or not also.

I feel so helpless I'm down in Michigan

I have no way of visiting her or helping her In real life.

Please is there anything I can do to help her?

    She's be best friend.

I don't want her to die, its not her time...
