My parents are extremely self-centered and self-important. They never really consider the possibility of them being wrong, and I, as a skeptic, am often accused of being "against everything" or a "dissenter". They believe in God and Chem-trails and even chain mail (This is true for most people around where I live). Please help me. I've read many books about bias ("Risk" is one of them) and believe I am unbiased or skeptical enough when I am first confronted with a statement. How do I convince my parents that not everything they hear or they are told is true?

I gave an exceptional amount of time looking for this answer, and the only thing I can come up with is that there is something going on with functions (boiling point is a function of pressure). Seriously now, why can you have water in the air, and at the same time have a bowl of water sitting on the table? It seems to make no sense, especially since they're under the same conditions.

I did try asking my science teacher (who teaches us Biology/Chemistry although she has a B.Sc in Biochemistry (Birmingham University, UK)), and she said there are different kinds of boiling (I'm not entirely sure about this part), and that she assumes vaporization. Then she said it would be best to ask my Physics teacher (B.Sc in Physics, University of York, UK), and she said that water can turn into a gas in temperatures other than 100°C, and that the boiling point does not necessarily mean that a liquid will always boil at that specific temperature and only. We haven't even got close to learning about pressure at school yet, but hey, the boiling point ought to be a function of it.

A small note: I used the Celsius scale on the question title and would appreciate it if your temperatures were in the Celsius scale as well, since we are talking about water.

I am having trouble with starting up on windows. Ever since I checked "Enable disk compression" on the "Properties" dialog of the C: drive, my OS won't boot. I keep receiving the following error:

JQFKH is compressed

Press CTRL+ALT+DEL to restart.

My machine is an HP Compaq DC7800 Convertible Minitower. It came with Windows Vista Home Basic, but I installed Windows 7 Ultimate. I haven't had any similar problem like this until now. The Windows 7 is also available. I used it to attempt a system restore and a "Startup Repair" with no effect. Moreover, I also tried changing the attribute with the Command Prompt included with th startup disk, that had no effect, too.

Is the text correct? How can I say the rest of these things? I need it to be 50-60 words. Help!

Okay. So I installed Ubuntu Tweak, and tweaked some stuff. I was happy, but then I started to become more interested on the subject, so I decided to take a deeper look at the program. Soon, I found myself unlocking some cool Compiz options such as wobbly windows, etc. However, it seems that I did something terribly wrong. I rebooted my computer, and now when I put my mouse over a button, open a menu or try to take any action, a section of the display becomes black. I strongly believe this has to do with Compiz Fusion. Any ideas on what I should do? I can run Windows and i also have the live CD in which I am typing this question at. The version of my Ubuntu Tweak is 0.4.8, and I could not upgrade to 9.10 because of this malfunction, so I am running 9.04, and the version of the Live CD is also 9.04. Any ideas?

I decided to install Ubuntu on my 3-month-old computer. I have the disc ready and I will soon go through the installation process. i would need to know a few tips abot creating partitions, live CD and dual-boot. Right now I am running Vista, and i have the Ubuntu 9.04 CD in front of me.I just want some info about the installation process and how to create partitions. Thanks in advance.

I have just burned DBAN into a CD and I want to format a computer. That computer has a lot of useless stuff and some crappy specifications like very low RAM, etc. It is a Windows XP. I want to format it and use its as an online gaming PC, which means I only need an internet browser. My question is: Will I have to re-Install Windows? I do not have the XP installation disk. will I be able to have windows XP without the disk? If the disk is required, I have a solution, but, if, let's say that it won't work, and I need another OS disk, what do you suggest? Windows 7 is too fancy for that PC. Ubuntu... well, idk, will the GUI be easy to follow? Any other OSs? Do you suggest me experimenting first, with something like VMWare Workstation? I am going to purchase a code for that if required. Money won't be an obstacle. What do you think?
