  • Is it normal for meteorites to burn up close to the ground?

I was just outside stargazing and saw a shooting star. You know, the normal, extremely quick streak that burns out almost as fast as it comes into view. However, about 5 minutes later, something extremely bright caught my attention. I thought it was a firework, but it was brighter than any I've ever seen, as well as completely silent. It looked like it burnt up literally 100 yards from where I stood, over a neighbor's house.

Does this sound like a meteorite? Would you hear any noise being omitted if you were as close as it seemed to be? If so, are there likely to be pieces remaining on the ground? Anyways, it scared the hell out of me!

  • What do I need to record music from home?

I am looking to set up my own recording operation from home and am curious to know what I will need and how much it will cost. I play a Yamaha portable grand midi keyboard, and am also looking for a pretty decent mic to record vocals and maybe guitar.. Will I need a better computer to run a program like Pro Tools? I currently have a middle-of-the-road Toshiba Satellite, 2 years old.

    Thanks

  • Why can't the Ducks keep a lead?

I am no fan of the ducks, but they keep losing me money! Here I am thinking they can't maintain their horrendous level of play, and then they prove me wrong. Anyways, they blew leads in 5 of their last 6 games. One of those games included a three-goal lead and two were two-goal leads. All squandered! Do they just have no stamina? No confidence?

  • How has your MBA impacted your career?

This question applies only to individuals that have already graduated with their MBAs. What benefits have you reaped from having the degree? Were you offered an instant raise at your existing job? Or perhaps you found it easier to land a job a bit higher up the food chain? Or maybe you feel it is yet to benefit you at all... I will complete mine in a few months and am just curious to hear others' stories. Thanks!

  • Which teams are currently considered "elite" in the NHL?

I was just reading an article in which the author claimed the Kings to be an elite team. I strongly disagree, thinking there can be no more than 4 or 5 teams in the entire league that can be called elite; LA is certainly not in that top tier. Your thoughts?

    My elite list:

    Pittsburgh

    San Jose

    Chicago

    Philadelphia

  • My experience at Sharks/Canucks game 3?

Pros: Maybe the most vibrant hockey game I've ever been to. I was astounded by the huge number of Canucks fans, most of who actually flew down from Canada. I thought Detroit would have been the team to amass loads of visiting fans, but that didn't prove to be the case. It was somewhat rattling to see a group of 40 or 50 Vancouver fans walking down the halls yelling "Go Canucks Go." And because of their fans proudly singing Oh Canada at the top of their lungs, it encouraged Sharks fans to match the intensity during the US anthem and for the rest of them game. Very loud game and a whole lot of fun.

Cons: I have never seen so many fans from an opposing team try to instigate (I am sure Anaheim's would have if they had enough fans to assault the tank like that). I heard 3 Canucks fans say "let's grab a smoke and then find a fight." But since I didn't actually see a fight, it was all good!

Question: What's the best playoff game you've ever attended in terms of atmosphere and visiting fan interactions? Have you seen any fan fights?

  • Sharks / Red Wings Reffing?

Red Wings fans are really getting on my nerves with all of this complaining about the refs.

When I lived out of state and had to watch Sharks games online using Center Ice, I got to see every away game through the opposition's broadcasting networks. Most of the league's commentators were level headed and at least tried to hide some bias; not the Red Wings'.They spoke about the Wings as though they were gods and could do no wrong. Either they won the game through their own divine prowess, or it was some external force such as the refs that stole the victory from them. Not once did they credit the opponent for anything positive.

What I am getting at is: are you Wings fans complaining about the reffing because you actually analyzed and thought about the calls yourself, or simply because those ridiculously one-sided announcers of yours said so?

Bertuzzi and Abdelkader's calls were deserved. Quit with the mob mentality, please.

  • Hasn't Chicago already clinched a playoff spot?

This has been thoroughly confusing me. All the talk is about Chicago still needing another point or for Dallas to lose in order to clinch a playoff spot, but this is how I see it:

Chicago has 97 points, Dallas has 95. Chicago has 44 wins, Dallas has 42. So even if Dallas wins and Chicago loses, Chicago will still go to the playoffs due to the primary tiebreaker rule of having more wins. Am I missing something? Was there a change to the tiebreaker rules that I'm not aware of?

  • Which 2 teams would make the most and least entertaining games to watch?

Situation 1: You are trying to convince a naysayer that hockey is actually a lot of fun to watch, so you pick out what has potential to be the most exciting game of the year. This game would feature who?

Situation 2: This is the game no one cares about. There is no scoring, no fans...it would basically turn any non-avid hockey fan off of the game. This game would feature who?

This only applies to current teams in the NHL, although I guess you could come up with the all-time most boring or exciting combos for kicks.

    My opinion:

Situation 1: San Jose Sharks vs Vancouver Canucks. Was just proven last week.

Situation 2: Florida vs St. Louis

  • 2011 Chevy Cruze or 2012 Ford Focus?

Due to unfortunate circumstances with my car, I am in need of a new one. I was nearly sold on the 2011 Chevy Cruze until I learned about the 2012 Ford Focus, which seems to be everything the Cruze is, plus some. However, the Focus doesn't come out until "Spring 2012" and I really need a car as soon as possible.

What do you think is the better car of the two? Are there certain features that one has that the other doesn't? Does anyone have a more specific release date for the Focus?

    Thanks.

  • Why do Detroit, San Jose, and Boston play better on the road?

I was looking at the standings and was a bit surprised that the Red Wings, Sharks, and Bruins all had noticeably better road records than home. As a Sharks fan, I have seen this frequently with the them over the years, but Detroit is particularly shocking; it is usually incredibly difficult for opposing teams to play at the Joe. Boston's record is also a bit perplexing.

  • Is the Penguins / Capitals rivalry real?

Or has it simply been manufactured by the NHL and HBO?

How do Pens fans feel about the Capitals and how do Caps fans feel about the Penguins?

While I think the HBO mini-series is interesting, this question, along with others, has been urking me every time I watch because a lot smells like bs :).

  • Are there any male rabbit owners out there?

I am pet sitting my friend's rabbit and personally think it is the most boring animal I've ever encountered (down there with stickbugs and snails).

After doing some research online, it seems like guys are the ones doing the bashing and females the defending...every time.

Does the female personality allow them to bond with rabbits more so than men can?

  • Trade Evgeni Nabokov?

I am a huge Sharks fan and have been for many years. However, I have never liked Evgeni Nabokov, save his first season with the team. I think he is overpaid and overrated.

My question, I suppose mostly aimed at other Sharks fans, is do you think we should trade him after this season is over? I do. He is on the downside of his career, and trading him sooner than later will allow us to pickup someone worthwhile. Other GMs still think he is good, and will gladly pay the hefty fee.

Nabokov is an above-average goalie, but certainly not Vezina caliber like he is being made out to be. You put any goalie in front of the Sharks D, they will have a good GAA.

And no, I'm not just upset because of the Devils game. I've been upset since we traded Toskala.

  • Can net assets be negative on the balance sheet?

I'm working on a project and have to forecast a company's balance sheet 6 years into the future. I used the percentage-of-sales method and wound up with negative net fied assets for the final two years. This was due to an accumulated depreciation higher than fixed assets for the year. When combining them with total current assets, both years come out positive in total assets.

Is this something that can stay as is, or do net fixed assets always have to be positive?
