  • Maths teacher not meeting my needs...?

Hi, I'm at college (part time) redoing my maths for the second year running and i'm dyslexic.

I told my teacher before the first lesson that i'm dyslexic and I need blue paper to read from.. to stop the words and numbers from moving and having a glare around the numbers... My teacher last year printed all my work sheets on to blue paper and this helped alot! My teacher from last year also told him that this really helps me and she saw a massive improvement in my work last year.

the first week he gave me an the level 2 assessment (we all had to do this) on blue paper, then it went to green and then yellow - (the brighter colours are worse for me) over the weeks.

When he gave me the work on yellow paper he said to me "How do you find that colour?" I said that I still see some of the words move and glare on this paper" and he said "it just aint good enough for you is it" - wasn't even in a funny way more of a serious way he said it. then it comes to this week and he said I just can't get the work printed on the blue paper.. your just going to have to cope with white. Can't be hard to just change the colour of the paper in the printer before you print a copy of for me can it?

(My teacher last year got it every week for me without fail)

He has also commented on one tiny little punctuation mistake i made in last weeks lesson. Kind of embarrassed me a little as i'm quite quiet within the classroom.

He is a new college teacher teaching functional Maths, ICT and English - he specializes in English.

I don't want to get on the wrong side of him at only 4 weeks in to the course... but shouldn't he be meeting the needs of his students? or am I just being to needy?

  • Why do people see my Dyslexia as an "excuse"?

For I say anything else my spelling is good because of spell check.

I was diagnosed with dyslexia in college in 2010. today I was at work and I was sorting out children's registration forms putting them all in the play scheme folder for the children who are going to be there over the 6 weeks. It took me an hour and my boss walks in and says "Haven't you finished that" I said "No, when you have dyslexia and that it affects your reading on white paper... It takes me longer" she just turns around and says "excuses excuses...my daughter has dyslexic" --- we wasn't arguing by the way just talking as the children where around.

When I use to swimming group/lessons.... I was in the top group and we use to the 25m medaly and all the strokes have to go in order and with no stopping and when I was leading I could never remember the order of the strokes... I told my teacher I am dyslexic and she was just like my brother is dyslexic so that isn't an excuse.... I don't do swimming group/lessons now due to rubbish teaching.

The only people who don't see it as an excuse is my family, college tutors- I use to have and my friends.

My dyslexia affects my spelling, reading and on white paper with black writing, short term memory, numbers, letters, writing them backwards, confusing b/d p/q, mixing up letters in words, I spell how I say the word.

Why do people see dyslexia as an excuse?

  • Work and holiday pay?

First off... I work in a preschool/after school club -Part time.

And now its the school Holidays I am only working 2 days in play scheme holiday club (cover work)

I go on Holiday in the last 2 weeks in august and I was wondering if I could get 2 weeks (10 days) holiday pay even though I am not contracted to work in the school holidays.

It doesn't say much on my contract only says that I get 20 days holiday and I haven't took no holiday since I started in November 2011.

So my question: Can I get my holiday pay in the school holidays when I am not contracted to work?

    Thank you

  • Contracted hours stated...?

My Mum works in a old people's residential home and she is contracted 25 hours a week. She has been doing 5 hours a morning every week day. But now the manager has turned around and says all morning shift workers must drop a day a week.... This meaning for her going from 25 hours a week to 20 hours a week. She has said to them you can't do that as she is contracted 25 hours and they said that they can do what they want as they manage the care home and the staff that work there.

My question is ... Who is right here? Can they just go and do this?

    Thank you.

  • Should I go to the doctor's?

Hi, I'm Hannah, I'm 18 and I work with children so I'm bound to get everything the children get.

For 3 weeks now I have had a cold and cough. I also have asthma so it makes it worse.

The first week, I started coughing and used my Blue inhaler a lot more than than normal, then about 3 days into the coughing and loosing of breath I caught a cold. The coughing started to hurt my ribs a little and keep me awake at night.

The second week I was coughing really bad and it felt like a chesty cough, I still have my cold-(but worse) Still coughing at night and using my inhaler. I started getting small headaches, Stomach aches and also pressure in the side of my face.

The third week, I am still coughing, cold is a little better but still blocked, Not got face pressure, headaches or stomach aches. But my cough still sounds a little chesty.

Could it be something more than a cough and cold? Should I go to the doctors to get checked over and also have my asthma re-assessed? Or will it just fade away in the next week or so.

    ---- I don't smoke or drink!

    Thank you,

    His name was tiny Tim,

I put him in the bath tub to see if he could swim,

He drank up all the water, He ate up all the soap,

And now he's got a bubble growing in his throat,

    Bubble.......
