  • Why is my electricity bill so high? In Austin I paid $50/month for 1000 sq ft, for same in Houston its $250?

    During 3 years of apartment-living in Austin my bill never went about $75/month. Now that I am living in Houston, the last three bills (minus the one where Ike took my power for 2 weeks) have been rolling in at $250. I don't understand, my habits have not changed, what could be accounting for the difference?

    Only guesses:

    -old apartment with terrible energy efficiency?

    -new rates of service? (although how big a part would this play?)

    PLEASE help me, this is beyond what I could have imagined, and beyond my budget.

    Is this a reasonable bill? I believe it has me at 50 kwh average a day, 1395 a month, even though I work full time, am never there to use power, and keep the A/C off when I am gone.

    HELP!
