I am a Mechanical Engineer at Worcester Polytechnic Institute (WPI) with a love of computers and all things technology. Few things bug me more than people who act like they know everything when they really know nothing and give people bad advice as a result. Then when you point out they are wrong, they freak out at you. I also officially hate Sims 3 and the people who plays it...

  • Help fixing my modded Xbox?

    Hey everyone.

So the other morning I booted up my soft modded Xbox and an error message came up saying that my Xbox needed maintenance. Now I have had this error message before, but only when I tried booting my Xbox with a game or DVD in the drive. But now I cannot get it to boot into XBMC or anything. I purchased the Xbox modded already so I know nothing about modding Xbox's, although I have softmodded my Wii. I am at a loss about how to approach this. Also, it has a 160GB hard drive installed. Thanks.

  • What kind of snake should I get?

    Hey everyone

So I am looking to get a snake now that my new apartment will allow me to have pets. However, I dont know what kind to get. Could you give me some specific suggestions on species you would recommend? My only requirements are that they are colorful and grow no more than 6ft-7ft. I have a 40 gal tank that I am hoping I can use for now but I am willing to get a bigger one as the snake grows. However, I don't want anything huge that takes up half a room lol. I do have some experience with snake care. Anyways, any help would be appreciated.

Also, could you tell me what species this is?

    Thanks!

  • USB flash drive error?

I was in a rush the other morning and unplugged my flash drive without stopping it. When I got to work, windows said it couldnt recognize the device as it had malfunctioned. I think the bios on the flash drive got messed up. I think I should be able to just reformat it but the problem is, since windows doesnt see it as a storage device, it wont mount it. Is there any way to fix this or do I have to bite the bullet and buy another flash drive?

    Thanks

  • Can I broadcast both a G and an N wireless signal on the same network at 2.4Ghz?

I asked this the other day and I got confusing/conflicting answers so I thought I would re-post it with some additional info.

Here is my situation. I recently moved into a new apartment. My landlord included internet with our rent and as part of that is broadcasting wireless for us out of the basement. However, his signal is broadcasting at a G signal at a 2.4Ghz frequency and I would like to be able to share media throughout the apartment. Unfortunately I cannot use LAN as there is only one ethernet port in the apartment and I don't want wires everywhere. I was hoping to be able to broadcast an N signal from my living room at 2.4Ghz as well. I know about dual-band routers that can broadcast at 2.4Ghz/5.0Ghz but dual band antenna's are really pricey and I don't want to drop $200 on them since I would need 3. I don't have any other wireless signals in my apartment so they would be the only two signals. Both signals would be operating at 2.4Ghz.

Yesterday someone said that N only operates at 5.8Ghz and therefore I would need a 5.8Ghz antennae. This confuses me because products such as this: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N8... exist that seem to operate at N speeds on a 2.4Ghz frequency.

    Thanks in advance!
