  • New teacher job search in NYC. How do I land a job?

    I'm a new teacher looking for a teaching position with the NYC DOE. I'll be certified to teach middle and high school mathematics.

    I've filled out the TeachNYC on-line application and am awaiting word on approval. I've been invited to the NYC DOE 2ndary school job fair this coming Thursday. I also have a DHR interview set for the 20th.

    I've also sent out about 40 resumes to local schools and have had no responses. This is frustrating and disappointing. I understand budget cuts are under way, but I was hoping to have landed a few interviews by now.

    My plan was to call principals after July 4th to inquire about pending openings for September. I will also send another round of resumes.

    If I don't get any responses, I'll pound the pavement in late July early August.

    Are there any other ways to land a teaching position in NYC???
