  • What should my job title be on my business card?

Hi, I am creating business cards for myself and don't know what to put as my title. I would like to do freelance writing, including articles, blogs, press releases, etc. Should I put "freelance writer"? Or is there a better title that gets that across?'

    Thx!

  • Will we regret not seeing more in Italy?

This is a long one, so for anyone who cares to take the time to read it and answer it seriously I will give you 10 points.

My boyfriend and I are planning a trip to Italy this summer (2010). We each will only be able to take 5 days of vacation time, so at most we will be able to go for 8 days. I always assumed my first trip to Italy would be a long one, and that I would be able to spend 3 days in each of the main cities. But with such a short amount of time, we are thinking of going off the beaten path a bit (hopefully avoiding the tourist traps) and avoiding the major cities.

We are thinking of flying in to Switzerland, spending 2 days there, then heading down to Italy, to Lake Como and the Lake district for 5 days, before going back to Switzerland for the night before our return flight.

We are pretty young, 23 and 25, so we will (hopefully) have other opportunities to return to see the rest of the country.

So my question is this: Will we regret not going to Rome, Florence, Venice, etc. this summer, and going to more remote places? Everyone I know has always done this long Europe trips, around 1 month, but that just won't work for us this summer. Is it dumb to spend all that money to only see two small areas of the region?

    Again, thanks for your assistance.

  • How do I become a runner?

I want to be able to run for exercise, and maybe one day participate in some 5k or 10k's.

I have never been able to run, even two years ago at 20 when I was working out twice a day and playing tennis daily. I currently weigh 158 lbs, about 15lbs more than I would like, and I know running is the best way to lose it. I just get super winded and can barely run a block.

Any advice on how to train myself to be able to run for more than 20 seconds would be great!

  • Are miles driven as part of an internship tax deductible?

I recently had an internship for which I was constantly driving 30-40 miles per day on assignments. Are these miles driven tax deductible?

(I am not including my commute to the internship, just assignments I was sent out on during my hours at the company.)

  • Is this the right way to determine who pays for a wedding gift?

I am 22 and my boyfriend is 24, and we have been together for almost four years now. Lots of our friends are starting to get engaged and married, and we were discussing payment of wedding gifts.

We don't live together and we split pretty much every meal when we go out. I think it makes sense for us to split a present if we are mutual friends with the couple. But if it is one of his friends from high school, who I don't know well or have never met, or one of my family friends, that he also doesn't know well, the person whose friend it is should pay for the whole present.

Does this seem fair? Is this how most couples do it?

  • How do I word an email asking for a meeting in which I am going to quit?

I am planning on quitting my job. I need to send an email to my boss asking her for a meeting, and during that meeting I will quit my job. I want to give her an idea of what the meeting is about, but I don't want to give her any impression that I may be willing to stay.

Here is what I have so far, though I don't think it is right:

    Dear Boss,

I know that you are very busy, but I was wondering if we could schedule a meeting to sit down and talk about my job. This situation isn't a good fit for me, and I would like to discuss......

After that is where I get confused. I don't want to discuss ways to improve the situation, because I know I have to leave.

Any help is greatly appreciated, I know this is a weird question.

  • What do I wear to an outdoor wedding in early October?

It's at 3:30 at a vineyard in northern California. I have quite a few sweaters and wraps, so I'm not worried about warmth, but more about the type of dress. Do I wear cocktail, or just a simple sheath dress? Any advice is greatly appreciated.

  • I wasn't invited to my good friends wedding, now what?

I just found out that I wasn't invited to one of my close friends' wedding. They are tight on money, however, she and I still see each other frequently, and I was the first of her friends she saw after she came back from the trip where her fiance proposed. A few of our other friends are going, so it's not just a family event. Do I ask her about it, or let her have her day and just keep quiet?

  • Brides-- how would you feel if someone wore a navy sheath dress, that had a few cream flowers at the top?

I found this great dress for a wedding next month, but I am paranoid about wearing anything that might upset the bride. It is a short, navy blue dress that has some cream flowers clustered at the top. All in all, the cream probably makes up about 1/5 of the dress. Thanks for the help!

  • What is the best resort in Palm Springs?

My boyfriend and are looking to go to Palm Springs for a weekend in September. We want a nice hotel, but not too expensive. Somewhere in the 180-250/night range. Neither of us play golf, but tennis courts would be a plus, as well as a really nice outdoor pool area. Thanks!

  • Has anyone stayed at the Swiss Hotel on Bondi Beach in Australia?

What did you think of it? Were the rooms nice and worth the price? Is it worth paying extra for an ocean view room? Any other tips about the area and things to do or see would also be appreciated!

  • Which lake is better, Lake Arrowhead or Big Bear Lake?

For my boyfriend's birthday we are trying to find a lake for waterskiing. We are looking to stay three nights, four days, and are looking for a location that has a cute town and lots of things to do. Neither of us have been to any lakes in Southern California, so any guidance would be appreciated.

  • Are landlords allowed to penalize one renter for another ones issues?

Background: My roommate and I rent a condo from a couple, not a leasing agency. I have always had my rent in on time (except one ocassion on a Monday when a holiday fell and the mail didn't arrive until Tuesday).

My roommate on the other hand is always at least two or three days late with the rent. The landlord has never said anything about this to me, I only know because my roommate told me.

Issue: We are moving out at the end of the month, and the new place I am applying to live by myself is an apartment complex with a manager on duty, etc. I had to fill out a rental verification sheet with current landlord's information. I figured it would be no problem. The issue with the rent being late that one month was not because I didn't have the money but because I didn't factor in the holiday.

Yesterday I found out that my roommate is (way) late with paying the rent and landlord emailed roommate to say that if she doesn't pay up she will have no choice but to give me a bad review to my new apartment complex. She is claiming that we are on the same lease, so in good conscious she couldn't recommend me when my roommate's rent is always late. She also acknowledged that my rent "has been in on time 99% of the time, but that doesn't matter."

Is this legal for her to put my roommates irresponsibility on me and make it my problem?

(Sorry for the length, any help will be greatly appreciated!)

  • Can anyone give me some advice about Sydney, Australia?

I am looking to go on a trip to Australia, but I have a lot of questions:

    - I will have between 10-11 days and have been told to stick to one city. Is that too much time in Sydney? Will we get bored?

    - Is the end of November- early December a good time to visit? Is it too hot?

    - Is seeing a show at the Opera House worth the money?

    - What attractions must we see?

Any advice is greatly appreciated! Thank you!

  • What are the rules for a landlord showing our apartment before we vacate?

My roommates and I have a lease that ends July 1st. Just got an email from our landlord that she is wants to show our apartment this upcoming week, 6 weeks before we are set to vacate. Is this right? She wouldn't even have our 30 days notice if she hadn't messed up on the lease (made it a 7 month lease instead of 6 months, but we signed it and she wouldn't budge later on).

My roommate and I both work jobs where we are gone 12-14 hours per day, so the place is a mess. I will not have an opportunity to clean it before she wants to show people around.

    My questions are this:

    - Is she allowed to show it 6 weeks before we vacate?

    - Are we required to let her show it before we vacate it, period?

    - And if yes to either above, is it required of us for it to be clean and tidy?

(Sorry for the length, thank you for the advice!)

  • What would an ideal 9- day trip to Australia entail?

My boyfriend and I are coming to Australia for 9 days around the U.S.'s Thanksgiving, which is in late November. We can either fly in to Sydney or Melbourne and were thinking it would be fun to go to a beach resort or something for a few days.

We plan on returning to Australia for a longer trip in the future, so we don't want to cram to much in, just see a lot of one or two cities.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated!
