  • Why is it every time I ask someone if they play the Blues it turns out they don't?

I've been studying nothing but Blues guitar for the last 2 years. I'm always on the look out for someone to jam with. Seem every person that I meet that 'says' they play the Blues. It turns out they really play Rock? They don't know Blues chords, scales, or basic Blues rhythms. Do you find it hard to find someone that actually knows what a 12 bar blues song in the key of E is? All I ever run across are guys playing Rock chords.

  • Depth Finders for Bass boats?

Taking a survey. I looking to replace the junk Lowrance depth finder that came free with my new boat. I went over to the Bass Pro website and did research on ALL makes and models below $500. Seems nobody likes any brands or models. Nothing but negative comments. So what are you currently using and what would you get if you had to replace it?

  • Good GPS for Lake Fishing?

Just purchased my first bass boat. So I'm looking at GPS for lake fishing.

    What are:

Best all around? No price limit.

Best affordable? Cheapest that still gets the job done.

Best value for the money? A good compromise.

How do they stand up to the elements? Will rain and the hot sun destroy them?

  • Tracker vs. Lowe Bass boats?

I went to the boat show this weekend. Found a Lowe (fishing machine) deep-v 17ft bass boat that I thinking of purchasing. Before I was looking at the Tracker deep-v bass boat (Targa). I've got the factory specs on each boat and did a side by side comparison. Not much difference between the two. The Lowe people all said their boat was built stronger and had better real sale value. My question is, if you had to chose which one would you take?

    http://www.trackerboats.com/boat/?boat=3331

    http://www.loweboats.com/showroom/deep-v/fishing-m...

Added note: The lake I'm going to use is famous for it's rush hour chop and wakes created by VERY large boats during midday in the summer. Smooth ride out in the morning but your going to be lucky to make it back for lunch without a bruised kidney or chipped tooth.

  • How to Hot Rod a Strat?

I have a high dollar American Strat that I wouldn't change for the world. But I got the Musicians Friend catalog in the mail yesterday. There are so many after market replacement part the the Strat that I'd love to tinker and mix and match parts to see what I like. The thought occurred to me to buy a used MIM Strat off the web and hot rod the crap out of it.

Question. Is it worth it or am I just putting lipstick on a pig? If it would be worth it what would you look for in a used strat? Are some of the other Strat knockoffs good candidates for rebuilds?

  • I need new Backing Tracks for 12 Bar Blues?

I'm looking for a REALLY good website that I can find Blues backing tracks. Key of E and A are what I'm looking for. I want to download them to my computer and load to my iPod. I've created 3 of my own so far but I tend to have the same tune stuck in my head. Free is good but I'd be willing to pay if they're professionally done.

  • Going after large Brown Trout?

There is a lake southwest of where I live that is renowned for its large record setting Brown Trout. I've decided to take a trip there this fall and try my luck. Here's my questions. What type of equipment do I need? Here is the rigs that I have.

    1. Fly Rod - 8'6" with 6wt. line. I caught tons of hatchery size Rainbows on this in both rivers and lakes.

    2. Spinning Rod - 5' UL with 4lb mono. Same as above, lots of hatchery size Rainbows.

    3. Spinning Rod - 6'6" M with 8lb mono for Bass fishing. Caught hundreds of 2 and 3 lbs. Bass on this rig.

Will any of these work on 20+ pound Brown Trout? The locals call them 'footballs'. All the pictures and information I get are about the fish and not what they were caught on. The locals claim that to catch the big Brown's you need to night fish using scuds or midges close to the surface. During the day to jig the deep water.

  • Anybody have problems setting the hook with a UL rod?

Well the Bluegill and Red Ear were on there spawning beds this weekend. Caught like 40 or 50 of them Saturday evening and Sunday morning. My brother-in-law and I both have purchased new Ultra-lite rod combo's. His is a Shakespeare and my is a Phluger. A good hook set was almost impossible do to the rod flexing completely before you can force the hook home. We noticed that 50% of your strikes were not being landed. Also was not feeling that the fish was taking the bait. My rod is a IM8 and I should be able to feel the wind blow much less a strike. Was casting into a school of Bluegill and bring back a empty hook. Anyway switched to a Medium Light rod and starting catching fish. So what's the work around or solution to this UL problem?

  • Fender Highway One Stratocaster HSS guitar?

I was looking at guitars last weekend and ended up playing a Fender Highway One Strat HHS.

Anybody on here play one? I really liked the guitar and was thinking about buying it. How well do they hold up to everyday playing? Also the action seemed a little high to me. Is that a normal characteristic for a Strat? Can I ask to have the tech lower the action without getting a lot of fret buzz? Also is it fairly easy to change electronics in this guitar. In other words hot rod it.

  • Looking for Vegetarian Recipes?

I'm not a Vegetarian at all. But I am looking to incorporate vegetarian meals into my weekly diet. I live in the mid-west and all those great vegetables are not easy to come by as when I lived in the South. Mostly frozen and tasteless stuff imported from South America. I've done a couple of searches on the web (yahoo & google) trying to find recipes. Where is a good place to start? Most of the recipes that I found are for board vegetarians looking to spice up their meals. I need the basics.

  • Buying small business first time.?

I've researched online websites for business for sale. Found a few in my area that interest me and are in my price range.

    Questions?

    1. Has anyone used their 401K money from their old cooperate jobs to buy a business? How did that work out?

    2. What is a reasonable down payment with owner financing? Websites are telling me 30 - 50% is normal. What's the real world number.

    3. Websites are telling me to have a CPA go over the books and give a realistic expected income. Plus have an attorney review all the leases and contracts. What's the normal cost of having a CPA and Attorney review these documents?

    4. How do I research any pending litigation against the business?

    5. Is there a better way of finding business for sale than brokers on the internet?

  • Blues strings for a semi-hollow body guitar?

OK people tell me what strings work best for you on your semi-hollow body!

When I read the reviews on Guitar Center for electric guitar strings and look for Blues/Jazz strings.

I get 'these are the best strings ever for my Strat.', "I sound just like SRV', etc... Well I don't play a Strat so this means nothing to me.

Any opinions on DR or D'Addario strings? How about Erin Ball? Lot of bad write ups on Erin Ball saying they are the junk food of strings.

  • Looking for PUPS for my AS73?

I've got a Ibanez AS73 that I play Blues on. Just love this guitar. The only problem I'm having is the stock pickups. They're pretty lame at a standard 'practice' volume. The guitar just doesn't shine unless I turn up the volume and gain considerably. Then it turns into a monster. It sings and sustains on the high notes and really growls when I what it to. But when I'm just playing with someone else around the house it pretty dull and dead at low volumes.

I want to put a set of REALLY good humbucker pickups in this guitar. I investigated 'Golden Age', 'Ibanez Custom 58's'. What other pickups should I be looking at? Remember this is not a Les Paul type solid body but a semi-hollow body. Think of Lucile but with a bit of growl.

  • Blues slide guitar tip and techniques?

I just bought myself a 'Blues Bottle" slide and I've been playing around with it.

Can any slide player give me some tips?

What's the deal with the open D&G tuning for slide? Can I use the standard tuning?

  • Studio Recording software for a PC?

I looking into buying recording software(studio) for my PC.

What I'm trying to do is take some tracks 'old songs' that I enjoy playing my guitar along to and editing out the vocals and lead guitar parts. Then record and mix my own playing on to the backing tracks.

This is just for fun and I don't need professional gear but I'm willing to pay for convenience and easy of use. I really don't what to send hours and hours studying manuals just to have a little fun.

Please point me in the right direction so I can start my research.

  • Fishing line for a spinning reel?

I asked last week about a new fishing rig for this spring. Ended up getting this from Bass Pro.

    1. BPS Micro-lite Float n Fly- This is a STEAL at the clearance price! At $34.77, you won't find a better buy. The 8' size would work best as a shore rod; adding distance to your casts- http://www.basspro.com/webapp/wcs/stores%E2%80%A6

    2. Pflueger Trion GX-7- Read the reviews! 76 people give this a 4.6 out of 5. Personally, I love the President Series but this may be over your budget- http://www.basspro.com/webapp/wcs/stores%E2%80%A6

Now what line do I put on this rig?

It's for a spinning reel and I won't be fishing around rocks, heavy brush etc...

Mostly sandy bottoms and weed beds.

I going with 6lb test as I only caught two fish last summer over 6lbs. Not everyone practices catch and release.

What's the difference between Monofilament and Fluorocarbon?

I need a line that works well on a spinning reel and has good knot strength.

I'll most likely put 4lb test on the extra spool for Trout fishing. This will be in small rivers with rock sand bottoms. No boulders or heavy brush either.
