Semolina's Pointer
I have loved dogs all my life, and trained with positive reinforcement for about 25 years, both my own and others, just for fun, not for money. You can never love a dog to much. I work as a volunteer with rescued dogs. I am hooked on Pointers but I leave the breeding to those who are more knowledgeable and experienced in this particular aspect of dog ownership. I do not believe in deliberately crossbreeding, unless it is to improve the breed by fine tuning a particular trait. For instance: In order to pass on the (English) Pointer's elegance of movement, he was cross bred with the German Shorthaired Pointer to improve the GSP's gait (action). I have no problems with Mutts at all. One of my best dogs was an accidental crossbreed of a GSP dam with a Lab sire. I just would not deliberately crossbreed. It's a shame that there are so many people in the world who indiscriminately breed dogs, and millions of dogs pay for that decision with their lives, each and every year.
Why do all and sundry feel the "need to breed" their own dogs?
If you had a lovely horse, you would not necessarily consider breeding from them.
If you had a pretty budgerigar you would not necessarily decide to breed them.
If you had a tortoise, a rabbit, a rat or anything, you would not necessarily breed them.
Even if you had a terrific bike you would not wake up one morning and think, gee, I must create one myself that is an exact copy of the one I have.
What is it in dogs (and to a degree in cats) that makes people want to breed their own, without a health check, without papers, without basic knowledge?
Is it the lure of the money?

12 AnswersDogs1 decade agoHelp! Urgent help with my puppy needed. What can I do?
How often have we all read this question, and shaken our collective heads in collective disbelief, when a person has they time to ask questions here, when the bleedin' obvious answer is to take the animal to the vet as a matter of urgency.
Who are all these askers? Are they all kindergarten age kids? Or Weirdos? Trolls?
There are so many interesting dog questions we can discuss here, but emergency matters (and other major illnesses) should always be referred to the vet first, and then come here and compare notes.

When I place a call from my computer to other people's landline THEY get an echo of their own voice in their phone.
My sound quality is good.
I am using a headset.
