i'm cycling nack to London, i've cycled Wolves to London before, so i kmow that bit, and i know there are canals going up past Nuneaton, i've so far cycled from Solfest to Newcastle, any hints for a flat-ish route from Sunderland to Nuneaton please? Lol

All i'm after is a script that will work from a nokia smartphone (maybe others) to automatically dial out every 10 minutes to test my friends business landline is working.

I've done something in Python before, so a script in for Python, or something else that can easily be compiled or put on to a Symbian based-Nokia please, this is something i would usually undertake myself but due to ongoing illness/tests i've not been able to concentrate.

Reason: My friends business has had a problem with their phone line, the landline network engineers have had trouble fixing the fault for years, but they always appear to be able to fix it once they do their thing, but it keeps going wrong and it can be hours of lost business before another fault is noticed.

I need information on the Applications/Software (free or commercial) used by professionals to create well-designed GUI-based panels/programs using Point + Click methods, of course i understand some hardcoding always needs to be done within a program.

Has anything surpassed C# yet? or in the pipeline?

I'd like to know prices of software expected to be paid my myself, and sources/merchants, also any info on UK College/Uni courses, especially near South London/Surrey, and prices expected for those too.

I don't primarily need to know the names of programming languages unless it's new.

There must be easy ways of creating GUI layouts with tabs, buttons + events etc.

I've programmed computer for years, machine code, assembly, Borland C++, au, to mention a few stars, of course i've also done a bit of webdesign, perl, php, js, css, but i do it all in my head, all hard-coded by myself, raw programming the hard way! and learning from examples from the web.

It's mainly been a hobby, out of interest, i'm looking to find out what's really being taught these days at universities, what's actually being used in the field, what do Microsoft/Apple actually use to create their GUI type programs, point + click especially.
