Wondering what happens to the wast food when we put it in our recycling bins . How is it recycled ?

I`m trying to cancell my Kaspersky auto renewal and seem to be going in circles by following the online instructions ! The order number is not recognised and they seem to be blocking any attempt to cancell . I`m thinking of getting a new bank card so the number change will stop the renewal, unless somebody can suggest another way .

As an ex ADI back in the 1980s I have been wondering about the test process with new cars .

How can an examiner test a candidate in a car with electronic handbrake , self-operating wipers/lights and parking sensors ? After passing their test they are more than likely to buy a much older car with none of the electronic stuff .

How does this work in the `modern world` ?

Yesterday I stalled my Renault ( OK I should know better after 40+ years driving , but it happens)

Anyway , it started OK but is idling erratically and there is a loss in power. Now the engine management light has come on . Our garage is closed till monday and wondered if any of you mechanics know what to expect on monday morning when I take it in. The fuel consumption is rubbish too.

I have seen some quite detailed work by various artists where the line is raised . They are usually outline drawings, in black , and the line looks like it has been `piped` on by a piping tool you would use to decorate a cake.

I`m intrigued to know the name of this method and , basically, how it is achieved .

What is the best, free way to transfer photos from a PC to ipad ?

The screen image on my wife`s laptop was upside down yesterday. The only thing I could think of was to do a system restore and this solved the problem.

Tonight she has switched on and the same thing has happened. Can anyone explain( in layman`s terms) why this is happening and how it can be cured ?

I`m trying to learn how to use Blender and need to slow the tutorial videos. I have an idea of the elements involved but keep backtracking to keep up with tool selection etc .

I`m a whizz on Google Sketchup and want to learn more about 3D design but I think age is catching up on me and I can`t look/listen/learn as fast as I used to !

I`ve been looking at the tutorials on youtube and they seem to assume you know the tool layout .

I use Jokes & Riddles to cheer me up after a bad day at work but does anyone else scan through the other categories to find those little gems that cause a chuckle ?

Example:- I`ve noticed a lot of Homework questions, usually about 4pm on a sunday, so went to the Homework Help section of Education &Reference. Lo & behold ! Dozens of homework questions on a sunday evening , many to do with maths. Now , what I find funny is (1) looking back a week or so , most have not been answered (2) The questions that have been answered never seem to have the same answer twice !

So, these kids ( sorry , students ) grab the first answer and put that in their homework . Result !

Next day, after handing in their homework they find there are 3 more answers totally different from the first . Also if you check the date when they joined YA it`s usually the day they asked the question and their mates have said `Leave your homework till sunday and get all the answers on YA `

Just an example, have a scan through the categories and see what you can pick up for a laugh.

I`m doing a 3D drawing of a snooker table with the balls set up . Need to know the distance between the pink and leading red, can`t find it on any set up rules.I know it would be the distance between the front of the triangle and the front of the leading red but does anybody know this measurement ?

Never watched archery before the Olympics and I`m amazed at all the bits and pieces on the bow. What are they for , in layman`s terms ?

Archery, like rowing ( my sport ) doesn`t have a catergory on the sports list so I`ve had to put this under other sports.

My daughter has a house about 4 years old and has bought 5 oak veneer doors to replace the cheapo doors they seem to fit in all new-builds. I expect all chippies know what I am going to say next. I took the old hinges off one door/ lining and the lining is made of MDF. How do you hang a 27Kg door on an MDF lining ? Luckily we haven`t bought the hinges yet .

I`ve been on Answers for nearly 4 years . There used to be plenty of questions worth thinking about/answering but now things seem to have gone downhill .

What colour should I paint my room ?

What is the best car for a new driver ?

Where can I get cheap car insurance ?

Have I been zapped by a speed camera ?

My washing machine/ dishwasher / car won`t work .

Most of these questions could be answered by a Google search or going to a local expert .

It would be great to get back to questions that have a true `OPEN ` option .

Maybe I`m being cynical , so I`ll give 10 points to anybody who can give a good for/against answer.

PS . A lot of best answers seem to come from 1 or 2 votes , not from the asker, why is that ?

Maybe they just want an answer and don`t care about the basics of Answers .

OK, what are your experiences of electrical faults on 5-6 year old cars ? Am I alone in thinking a 6 year old car with 50,000 miles should not be costing hundreds of ££££ to fix ?

Why should the manufacturers make such a huge profit on spares when we are paying for parts that fail through lack of testing.

Are we at ransome to the car makers ?

My daughter took her Renault Clio to her usual garage to have work done on the engine after the car broke down on the motorway. They gave an estimate for the work of £400- £650 depending on what was found wrong as work progressed. She told them she could not pay them until the end of the month when she got paid, they said No prob. She could have the car back when it was ready and pay later, as she is a regular customer.

She has just had a phone call to say the car is ready and the bill is £850, but the garage has made no attempt to contact her about the price going over the original estimate. Anybody know the ins and outs of a situation like this ? Would appreciate any advice.

Any mechanics out there know roughly how much to buy and fit a recon engine in a 02 Clio 1.2 16v ?

The exhaust gas monitor light has come on , Kangoo `06, 1.2.Had a problem starting yesterday but was OK today but the light came on this afternoon. Any mechanics out there who can throw some light on the problem so I know what to expect at the garage on monday morning ? Thanks.

Leaving a friend`s house today I blipped open my car and as we stood chatting he touched the bonnet and the doors locked. We tried this again and it happened 3 times . Stopped at a shop on the way home and when I came out the car wouldn`t start , engine turned over but no start . Started on the 3rd attempt . What`s going on ?

My daughter has just told me she has been topping up her coolant reservoir with water on her 02 Renault Clio. I top up with coolant on my Kangoo and don`t know what to advise her. Help please.
