  • Steaming Sui Mai in a Rice Cooker?

I'm looking to use this recipe:

    http://www.grouprecipes.com/1045/sui-mai.html

However, I'm a bit hesitant when it comes to how it's cooked.

First and foremost, I'm worried about the raw meat not being suffiently cooked.

Secondly, I'm wondering if I couldn't just use the veggie steamer rack in my rice cooker? It gets very hot, thoroughly cooks (almost overcooks) the rockhard frozen veggies from the freezer...

Does anyone have any experience with this? Also, alternative recipes are welcome!

    Thank you!

  • Ever made a satin lei?

It's almost graduation time for some friends in Hawaii, and I'm looking to make satin lei like those featured here:

    http://www.alohahawaiilei.com/public_html/New%20Si...

I helped a friend make some a few years ago and, if memory serves, I think you take a strip of satin, frey the ends, and...either twist or fold it onto the lei needle. I can't remember much else.

Does anyone have any experience with these? I've been poking around online and can't find anything substantial...any insight would be greatly appreciated!

  • Lost stocks from my grandfather?

Sorry if I'm in the wrong section:

Before I was born, my parents both remember having a conversation with my grandfather in which he said he was going to buy stocks in my name.

After he died, my grandmother said she could never find any sign of anything like that. My grandfather hid a lot of information from her, though, and she does not get along very well with my father (she's my mom's mother) or have much to do with any of her children/grandchildren. However, no one else can remember him mentioning it again.

This popped into my head while I was reading a book about investing...could it be possible that he DID get the stocks, and if so, how could I find out which ones they were (even if getting the money isn't an option)? I'm pretty sure that my grandmother isn't flat out lying, but it's a possibility that there are stocks/bonds/whatever in my name, his name, or both that she is unaware of.

Does anyone know how to go about this? I'd appreciate any help I can get. Thanks!

  • Is there a specific reason why I connected with these two?

I am an Aries, and there are two people that I relate to more than anyone else in the world. They were both born on May 20th, 1985, within hours of each other.

One (the one that I'm marrying, actually) spent his life in Alaska, as I did.

When my family moved to Hawaii during my high school years, I met the other...who was born in Hawaii, but spend most of his childhood in the same town as the guy I'm marrying...we just never met (city of maybe 60,000).

They are both Tauran, but right on the cusp of Gemini (starts the next day), and their personalities have some very clear differences. While they are both introspective and a bit standoffish (until you know them) with LONG tempers, my finace's temper is shorter (though very hard to provoke) and a bit impulsive with money (little things, anyway)...whereas my friend is more inpulsive with life decisions...and, like I said, I am an Aries.

Can someone give an explanation (from the astrological mindset)? Details, please! THANKS!

  • This is my first entry into YA Poetry...?

...but no need to be gentle! Tell me what you think of it with complete honesty, and (my main reason for posting) if the title fits. I've always had a difficult time with that and would like some input.

    "No Apologies"

    Our tongues have always

    danced in riddles

    which lead us into places

    situations

we never dared to speak of

    chest full of apologies

    rising against your touch

    and yet

you told me not to speak them if even

    in a whisper

    I know how to

    make your voice tremble

    as badly as

    my hands

    and for these shaken questions

    you look deep into

    my solutions

    lingering scent gives

    answers that I

    have not requested

    morality

    fidelity

    integrity

    reality

and how it tastes to know

    we shouldn't be here

    yet again

  • With three weeks left to fake a decent tan, can anyone recommend some good products?

I'm the maid-of-honor in a wedding on September 8th. My dress is a hazy, darkish blue, and though I don't look bad in it now, I'd like a bit of a tan, if only to get rid of the tanlines from my tanktop.

I'm not too interested in tanning my face, and I'm scared that using a product will cause me to be orange or streaky - I even had a dream that when we were at the wedding (outdoors at 1800hours = HOT) and when I hugged the bride, my tan stuff came off on her dress.

I've never done this sort of thing before, so any help you can offer will be appreciated. Like I said, I'm not too keen on using anything on my face, but I may if needed...I'm looking to get rid of tanlines and am okay with being a bit darker than I am now. NO ORANGE PLEASE! Thanks so much.

  • A potential challenge for the greats of Music Answers!?

I am looking to obtain full lyrics and a copy of a song that my grandmother could never completely remember. It was written in 1934 (I believe) and originated somewhere in Georgia, from what I have been able to find.

The only line I know is: "Here I stand on two little chips - come and kiss my sweet ruby lips"

...although my grandmother always said "sugar lips"...I'm sure there are variations.

My hope is that someone can help me find the full lyrics, if not where I can get a copy of it. I'm currently writing a book about her for my family and want to include a CD of music...I would like to include that piece, if I can find it

Here's what Google has to say:

Thanks so much for any help!

  • I think it's John Mayer?

The only line I know from the song is

    "...and we're getting it riiight"

....and I don't even know if that's right...but that one line has been stuck in my head...>.<

Can someone please help me out? What song is that from? And it could be Jack Johnson, or someone similar. Oi. Thanks...

  • Why don't some stores accept credit cards?

Why is it that many stores still don't accept credit cards?

I understand that there is a small percentage fee each time a transaction occurs via credit card. I thought that many places would simply increase their prices a bit to adjust, but it seems that the places that DON'T accept credit cards are MORE EXPENSIVE (if only by mere cents) than those that do.

A convenience store near my apartment complex would have a great deal more business from me if they accepted cards (I walk a lot and rarely carry cash). I'm sure that many more people in the area have the same issue.

Any ideas? I guess it would be easier to fudge your taxes if all of your transactions are cash...

  • How do I go about getting a car insured if I have no license?

Due to circumstances that I don't need to get into, I am 21 and only have my instructional permit.

I know a few people are old enough (21+) and would be willing to go out with me while I practice driving as well as taking me to my test. However, none of them have cars that will pass Drive Test standards (even a minor crack in the windshield disqualifies you here! Oi!)

So my thought lately has been to buy a passing car and insure it so that I have my own car to get used to driving in and also don't put anyone else's car at risk, etc. etc. Is it even possible for me to do so?

    Thanks for any help!
