  • When shows get criticized by the Parents Television Council....?

Do the writers of these shows being criticized actually change how they write their shows by taking out things like sexual content? I'm just curious as to what they do when they get criticized for things like this. Does anybody know?

  • Can you lose your virginity by....?

dry humping or with clothes on, particularly with underwear on? the reason i ask this is because people have so many different views on sex and virginity. it's confusing which are to be believed. i'm also asking this because i'm curious as to what your opinion and view is on this.

please place your opinions but try not to be negative. i'm saying this because people do tend to get out of line. i'm not trying to be rude or anything. just saying.

  • Writers, how do I avoid stereotypes and cliches?

i'm planning to write a teen drama/serial series. i'm not really sure how books the series will have. for now i have four books planned out. the first four books will be about what the characters go through while they're in high school. the series will basically be about teenagers who go through typical real life issues such as pregnancy, abortion, adoption, sexual identity, gender identity, drug abuse, etc. i also want to include the usual high school cliques such as cheerleaders, jocks, nerds, geeks, class clown, queen bee, the bad boy, the bad girl, the overachiever, the brain, the punk, the rich kid, the beauty queen, the rockstar, etc. i know these ideas have been done several times and that they're all overdone. but i've had these ideas way before they became overdone and overused.

i want to include all these things but without making them too cliched, like portray them in ways people wouldn't expect them to be portrayed. ive seen tv shows that have portrayed these high school cliques in ways people wouldn't expect them to be portrayed. shows like degrassi, south of nowhere, and one tree hill are a few examples. every character goes through something and has their own story line.

one idea i have of making these characters not too cliche is to make them multi dimensional characters and giving them some twists. here's an example for one these twists: a nerd or geek whom everyone thought was a sweet kid and is known for being "the quiet one" turns out to be completely psychotic and a stalker or online predator. remember it's just an example.

if you have any ideas for me please post them. i could really use some help. thanks in advance.

  • Need help with characters.?

i haven't officially started writing my teen drama series as i'm still coming up with ideas. one thing that i'm really having trouble with is creating characters. i'm having trouble creating major character(the ones will appear throughout the whole series and are considered the "originals" ) and minor characters(the ones who will be around for a while and then won't be shown after their story line is over). the genre of my series is teen drama/serial. i get so overwhelmed with creating the characters because sometimes i feel like it's too much. there are some characters that i have created and that i definitely want to use. another thing that's been overwhelming is having the parents of all the characters being involved and having their own story lines. but i decided to just include the parents of some the characters while the parents of the other characters will just be mentioned.

so if there's anyone who can help me then please give me your ideas. that way developing my characters won't be as hard as it has been for me.

  • Writers, here are some ideas I have for my teen drama series.?

so i've come up with some ideas for my teen drama series, particularly for the character of deanna santos who is a multifaceted character. she's basically the HBIC/bad girl of the series. her character is one of the most complicated characters of the series. she has both manipulative and sensitive sides. her family goes through so many dramatic changes. she was molested by her father and her mother is almost never home. even though her character is a b**ch, she does have her soft side and genuine redeeming qualities. she's not the type of girl that tries to be a bad influence or get other people in trouble. in contrast she actually cares about her friends and is always there for them whenever they need her. she's basically the character that seems to have drama follow her everywhere no matter how much she tries to avoid it.

here are some story line ideas i have for her character:

    -a rape story line

    -a pregnancy story line

    -an eating disorder story line

    -a drug addiction story line

-a story line where she dates an older man

-a story line involving her having a lesbian relationship

remember these are just ideas. i haven't decided which ones i want to use. i need help on deciding which of these ideas best fits for the character of the deanna. if you have other ideas i can use for her character please post them. the more help i get the more ideas i can come up with. thanks in advance :)

  • Is anyone excited about Scream 4?

i'm all pumped and ready for this one haha! i'm excited to see neve campbell, couteney cox, and david arquette again. i'm also excited to see emma, roberts, hayden panettiere, rory culkin and all the other new cast members. they will pull it off. i remember when the first movie came out. it feels like it was just yesterday lol. wes craven is a genius and writes the best horror movie scripts ever. he also picks the most decent actors for his films. hopefully sidney, gale, and dewey don't get killed off.

please no haters or rude comments! i mean if you're not a horror movie fanatic then that's fine. but there's no need for rude comments. another thing i want to add is that this isn't a remake of scream. it's a reboot. if this were a remake film then it wouldn't be called scream 4.

  • Writers, what do you think of these titles for my series?

So I decided that the title of my teen drama series will be Bridge to Reality. I want to come up with individual titles for each book. Each book is about what teenagers go through each year they are in high school. The first book is about freshman year, second book is about sophomore year, third book is about junior year, and fourth book is about senior year. I'm thinking for the first book to just leave it at Bridge to Reality.

So the title for the first book will just be called Bridge to Reality. I haven't come up with an individual title for the second book yet. The third book will be called Bridge to Reality: The Unexpected and and the fourth book will be called Bridge to Reality: The Breaking Point. I came up with those individual titles for the third and fourth books because there's going to be a lot more going on with the characters and it will be two times the drama from than the first two books. The third and fourth books will sort of be like Degrassi: The Boiling Point. A running theme throughout the series will be each book starting off with the characters enjoying their summer vacation. The drama that takes place during summer vacations leads into the drama that goes on during the school year.

I want my series to be a teen drama/serial. An example of a serial are shows like Gossip Girl and Melrose Place. It will be about teens who deal with typical real life issues most teens deal with, something people can relate to. The things I don't want to do are: make the series that has only rich people and make some of the drama too far fetched because then that makes it unrealistic.

  • Writers, what do you think of these four characters for my teen drama series?

1)Deanna Santos: The main protagonist of the series; a multidimensional character with several different sides to her; introduced as the beautiful, rich, rebellious, narcissistic, bad-to-the-bone girl who is bad ***, manipulative, and sneaky but also sensitive at heart. She's described as being a "class in a glass and party in a body" who loves to party and knows how to have a good time, and is also like a praying mantis when it comes to her relationships with men. She's also spunky, sarcastic, and blunt. Deanna is one of the most complicated characters of the series. In order to really understand why Deanna is the way she is, you have to look real closely at her. She's a troubled teen with a troubled family. The lack of authority in her life caused Deanna's high school years to be full of partying, promiscuity, drinking, substance abuse, and rebellious behavior. She was molested by her father and several other men, which is the main cause for her promiscuous and party lifestyle. She suffers from being neglected by her mother who is almost never home and seems to be more interested in her career. Deep down inside she has a good heart and she looks out for the people she cares about. She cares about her friends and siblings deeply. Enough though she is manipulative, sneaky, and a big b**ch most of the times, she has generous and redeeming qualities in her. She's the type of girl that doesn't take crap from anyone and does not let others push her around. Overall she's really not a bad person. Drama just follows her everywhere no matter how much she tries to avoid it. She's a good friend with an ever emerging heart as long as you don't screw her over. As the series progresses, she softens and becomes more mature, independent, and successful.

2)Ricky Flynn: The bad boy of the series and the male version of Deanna when it comes to manipulation and revenge. Him and Deanna are very much alike in terms of being the "bad asses" of the series and also having both manipulative and sensitive sides. He's described as being cynical, world-weary, suave, tough, and quick tempered, yet compassionate and empathetic toward people in trouble and those less fortunate than himself. He has no qualms about living life on the edge. In the beginning of the series, Ricky appears to be an unfriendly, arrogant boy, who is only interested in teasing others, playing sports, and dating lots of girls but as the series progresses, he softens and becomes more mature(much like Deanna). Deanna and Ricky have a love-hate relationship. They often come together as partners in crime for schemes and form sometimes elaborate plans for vengeance and self gain.

3)Ethan Mills: The captain of the water polo team and Deanna's first real boyfriend, also rival to Ricky. He does not have much patience and tolerance for outsiders. In the first book of the series, Ricky and Ethan have an instant dislike for each other and get into their first fight during a house party. In contrast to Deanna and Ricky, Ethan is really not a complicated character. His character is easily understood. Ethan is also the type of character who at first came off as someone who likes teasing and bullying others, but then he redeems himself and throughout the rest of the series he becomes friendlier, carefree, lovable, and goofy.

4)Declan Miller: An academic underachiever who uses humor and sarcasm to relate to other people, as well as to hide his emotional pain stemming from his unhappy childhood. Because of his underachiever status in school and lack of common sense, he is constantly branded by his working class family as their "great disappointment" or "great embarassment". His parents frequently pick on him and call him a loser right in front of him which leads to very low self esteem. His father is also an alcoholic and domestic abuser. He's always had an interest in Deanna but has never been able to admit his true feelings to her. In the beginning he also gets bullied by both Ricky and Ethan.

  • Freddy Krueger vs Jason Voorhees vs Michael Myers?

which of these popular fictional serial killers do you like best? i can't really decide as i enjoy all of their movies.

i've seen almost all the original and remake films for all movies. the first and third films of the nightmare on elm street franchise were in my opinion the best ones. freddy vs jason was pretty good to though it could have been a bit better. i didn't really like the remake of friday the 13th but i did enjoy the originals. the remake of halloween was a lot better than the original because the remake gave more back story as to why michael turned out the way he did and a little back story is always good to include. i have not seen the remake for nightmare on elm street but i would like to.

  • I'm writing a teen drama series. What teen drama cliches should I avoid using?

i do want to include stuff like the jocks, cheerleaders, nerds, geeks, preps, class clown, bad boy, bad girl etc but i want them to add some twists to their characters. that way they don't sound too cliche. an example of a twist for one of these characters would be a nerd or geek whom everyone thinks is a good kid turns out to be completey psychotic or a stalker. remember that's just an example. the same goes for couples/pairings. i don't want to use the teen drama cliche couples that are always used like good girl dates bad guy and head cheerleader dates the star athlete. i'm thinking of including stuff like bad girl/bad boy(because of how they can be alike and relate to each other), i also want to use the opposites attract dynamic. if you have any ideas on what kinds of twists i can include for these types of characters please post them. i could really use some help with this. thanks in advance :)

  • Need some serious help on character development.?

i'm writing a teen drama series and i really need some help with one character in particular. the character i need help with is my main protagonist deanna santos. earlier i posted a question about her. i'm going to copy and paste it. here it is: http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;_ylt=AgI35...

i need help on coming up with ways to make her character a believable and realistic character. i want to make her one of those complex and multifaceted character that has different sides to them. for example my character deanna has both manipulative and sensitive sides. i want to her make her character sort of like "the b**ch" but also has a good heart and looks out for the people she cares about. she's the girl who doesn't care what anyone thinks about her and who isn't afraid to speak her mind. she's blunt and opinionated. the lack of authority in her life caused deanna's high school years to be full of partying, drinking, and promiscuity. i copied and pasted my other question on here so that you can see some other potential story line ideas i came up with for deanna.

do you think it would be realistic if i make deanna's character a mulitdimensional character? i would be really helpful to see your ideas on here. i could really use some help with this character on how to make her believable and realistic. if you have any ideas please post them. thanks in advance :)

  • Writers, does my character sound realistic or unrealistic?

the character i'm asking about in particular is my main protagonist deanna santos. she's multifaceted character, meaning there are several different sides to her. she possesses both manipulative and sensitive sides.

she is also the beautiful, rich "it girl" of my teen drama series. while she's popular and is pretty much the center of attention, she comes from an awful home life. her mother is cold and detahced and neglects her. her father sexually abused her as a child. so my question is basically do you think it's realistic or unrealistic for deanna to be the popular girl who comes from an awful home life and dark past? i just want your opinions.

also i would like your help on giving deanna some potential story lines. a rape story for deanna line would be far fetched considering what she's been through with her father. so i won't be including that for her character, but there will be a scene where she almost does get raped but she fights it off. other story line ideas i have for deanna are: eating disorder, pregnancy, and exploring her sexuality. if i do include deanna being part of pregnancy story line, i was thinking of making her the character who has two kids while still in high school. but that might be far fetched as well. i would really appreciate your help. if you have any ideas please post them :)

  • Writers please give your opinion on the villains in my teen drama series.?

here are the other two previous questions so you can refer back to it: http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;_ylt=AnhJZ...

    http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;_ylt=AkfQ1...

1)Ivy Laderman: The main female villain of the series: an attractive, distinguished, and elegant young woman; cruel, manipulative young socialite who creates havoc throughout the series; notable for her manipulative machinations and sudden returns throughout the series. She is described as being an "adolescent Cruella" and evil b**ch from hell. She been part of most of the characters lives for a long time and likes to make her presence known. She's incredibly evil, manipulative, and pretty much just takes no prisoners, and doesn't care about the consequences. Very jealous and insecure, incapable of controlling her passions, she turns everyone life in high school into a prison for them. Her explosions of fury, motivated by jealousy and extremely self destructive, have managed to convince everyone that she is crazy. In reality what Ivy wants is to attract attention to herself and manipulate everyone else at her whim. Her feud with Deanna kicks off after Ivy spikes Alex's drink at a rave and takes his virginity. After that incident, Ivy develops a sickly obsession towards Alex that leads to an immense jealousy and loathing of any female she sees Alex with. Ivy is incapable of truly loving anyone besides her. She may lust for guys, may like them when they are nice to her and give her gifts, but true unselfish love is impossible for her. She is driven by envy, greed, and selfishness and destroys anyone who comes too near to her. Throughout the series she goes through several issues such as being put in a mental hospital after threatening to torch herself, along with a parade float, writing threatening letters to a school, and leaving obscene phone messages on both Deanna's and Alex's answering machine. Shares similarities with original 90210 character Emily Valentine and Gossip Girl character Georgina Sparks.

Bianca McKay: Bold and vivacious; Sensual and attractive, though somewhat vulgar; hypocritical and astute; mistress of dissimulation. Bianca exaggerated ambition causes her to commit the worst infamies, without measuring the consequences of her actions. Bianca is also a cool, slick, and supremely self confident bad girl. She isn't all needy or vulnerable----she's totally self contained and lives by her own rules. Her main priority is looking out for number one. She knows how to work the system to her advantage, and makes no apologies for feeling that she's better than most people. Her credo is survival of the fittest----she's ruthless, narcissistic, and completely amoral. Bianca gets away with all this because she's also beautiful and charming and can wrap men around her little finger. She's also known to be a pathological lair and stirs things up and causes trouble for everyone.

3)Billy Parker: Another friend of Alex's and Ricky's; the main male villain; described as being handsome, although ambitious, frivolous, unscrupulous, duplicitous, merciless, malicious, and ruthless. He's shown to be a jock, bully, and card shark and meddles into people's business and has sneaky vindictive ways of twisting the truth around. Billy turned his back on his parents and was left without a trust fund. He also manipulates and uses Alex in any he can, taking advantage of Alex's kindness. Billy also develops a sickly obsession towards Deanna and desires to have her at any cost, without caring who he will hurt in the process. Deanna hates and loathes Billy and wants absolutely nothing to do with him and is constantly fighting off advances he makes towards her. He is very much the male version of Ivy and is capable of doing whatever it takes to get what he wants even if he has to hurt people to get it. His main targets are Deanna and Alex throughout the series.

  • Writers please give your opinion on these next set of characters.?

before i give more character descriptions, here's the first question with the first set of characters so you can refer back to it: http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;_ylt=AkfQ1...

as i mentioned before most of the characters share similarities with different tv show characters. here are the tv show characters that the first three characters from the previous question share similarities with:

1)Deanna Santos shares similarities with original 90210 character Brenda Walsh, Kelly Taylor, and Valerie Malone: new 90210 characters Naomi Clark and Adrianna Tate Duncan; Gossip Girl character Blair Waldorf; One Tree Hill character Brooke Davis; Degrassi characters Manny Santos and Holly J. Sinclair; South of Nowhere character Ashley Davies; The O.C. character Marissa Cooper; and Jersey Shore character JWoww.

2)Alex Berrios: original 90210 character Brandon Walsh and One Tree Hill character Lucas Scott.

3)Ricky Flynn" original 90210 character Dylan McKay; new 90210 character Liam Court; Gossip Girl character Chuck Bass; One Tree Hill character Nathan Scott; and The O.C. character Ryan Atwood.

here are the next set of characters:

1)Kimberly Lopez: The typical queen bee and captain of the cheerleading squad, also Deanna's former best friend; described as being a "game player" and being catty, rude, sarcastic, and at times cruel to other students. Throughout part of the series Deanna and Kimberly are bitter rivals but at some point reconcile and become friends again. She shares similarities with Degrassi characters Paige Michalchuk, Hazel Aden, and Holly J. Sinclair; and South of Nowhere character Madison Duarte.

2)Lacey Sawyer: Deanna's childhood best friend; the quintessential sweet and sugary girl next door; bubbly, unobtrusive, and shy at first but eventually breaks out of her shell. Lacey grew up as a strict Catholic, and her mother's strict rules on morality will be a running story line for much of the series. Because of this, Lacey, by choice, remain a virgin until marriage. She will also go through a different set of issues such as being in an abusive relationship, discovering she has dyslexia, and being stalked. She shares similarities with original 90210 character Donna Martin; One Tree Hill character Haley James Scott; and Dawson's Creek character Joey Potter.
