This year saw the deaths of Billy Powell and long-time friend and bassist since Leon died, Ean Evans. Gary Rossington is the only original member and he is in poor health. Johnny Van Zant is younger and he and brother Donnie have their country band to keep them going.

Is it mabe the right and proper time to let Lynyrd Skynyrd simply settle back on those southern porches, sipping iced tea, and watching the grandkids play?

I just think that it is beginning to be too hard to go to concerts with all these replacements--even though they are all long-time friends who have sat in for one or another Skynyrd member through the years.

I guess I am biased, Gary Rossington won my heart with his opening notes to Free Bird when I was a very sad 6 year-old. I guess the thought that we will lose him has me thinking he, as the sole surviving co-founder, should finally lay to rest the awesome musical experience that he and Ronnie started all those years ago.
