I dented a car in a parking lot and offered to pay for the damage I caused but...?
the owner of the vehicle refuses to provide a quote and is demanding $1000. There is NO WAY the damage I did is $1000 worth plus the vehicle was previously damaged on the same side and it's obvious they want me to pay to get their car completely fixed up. The car is also 14 years old and non-operational by their own admission and probably not even worth $1000. I can see why they don't want to get a quote (since they can't get the car to a repair shop because it's not running) but the problem is that they lied to me and said they had a quote and didn't. After they outlined the $1000 in damages, I called the repair shop to question them about how much of that was for the damage that I did and they told me that they have not seen the car and have not provided quote.
When I offered to have someone come out and do mobile dent repair they refused and since they are not getting the cash they want from us without a quote, they are asking for our insurance company information. I'd rather not provide the insurance company info since our deductible is $1000 anyway. They went out of their way to tell me that I would need to provide money directly to them and not to anyone doing the repairs. I feel like I'm being lied to and scammed and not sure how to proceed. Please give me your suggestions on how to proceed. Am I obligated to give them my insurance information or are they obligated to provide me with a detailed repair quote? I'm afraid they are going to try their scam on my insurance company. What a nightmare for a little dent in a door!
5 AnswersMaintenance & Repairs10 years agoBurning Break Smell - should I replace them?
I replaced my front brakes 2 weeks ago. Since then I've notice a burning break smell every time I drive the car (normal driving, not riding my breaks). Mechanic said this is normal. Today I was coming down a long steep hill and riding my brakes as is necessary and experienced "break fade" where they got mushy and stopped responding to my pushing on the break pedal harder and harder. I pulled over and they began to smoke and the smell was very bad. After letting them cool, I took the car directly to the shop to have them looked at. Just picked up the car and he told me it's all fine. He said it could have been rust on my roters and that a burning brake smell is normal. I don't believe any of this is normal and I'm afraid to drive my car down hills now. Should I get new brakes installed from another shop? We're planning some mountain driving next week and I'm very concerned.
