i'm 27 years old and am a new mom.i have been married to my husband, a fireman for almost 7 years. we waited to find out what we were having... it's a boy and we named him blue. he is amazing. he weighed 8 lbs 9 oz and is gaining weight like crazy. babies are a lot of hard work but it's great. **books i have loved *ina may's guide to childbirth *the thinking woman's guide to a better birth *the husband coached birth. ***"We tend to go along with what everyone else is doing, assuming that must be for the best. Living in a technological society, we tend to think that the best of everything is the most expensive kind available. When it comes to birth, it ain't necessarily so." -ina may gaskin

  • do you burp a breastfed baby?

this may sound crazy but in all of my reading i can't remember any of the books talking about burping a solely breastfed baby. so... do you? it seems like you wouldn't need to since there's no air in the breasts to be gulped but let me know your own personal experiences please.

    thanks!

  • how many diapers and wipes?

i am trying to get ready and stock up early and will be buying seventh generation diapers and wipes off of the internet for our baby. just trying to get a general idea of how many diapers and wipes i'll need. i know that babies generally have 12ish diapers per day. what about wipes per change? specifically if any of you are also using seventh generation diapers and breast feeding because that is what i'll be doing. but ALL input will be greatly appreciated!

  • Anyone who has used the Moby Wrap??

Hi! i am currently searching for a wrap to use when the baby comes and the one that is most appealing to me so far is the moby so i am just wondering what your personal experiences have been. the only complaint i have come across is that it's not convenient to put on in public so you should do it before you leave home and are in need of it.

    Thanks!

  • What baby items did you find most useful?

I am in the middle of trying to register for baby items because EVERYBODY i know is asking about registry items and baby showers for me, SO my question is what were the most useful items you received that you definitely use and are glad you got?

I know people always get some crazy stuff that is totally useless and just gets thrown away or re-gifted. And then there are also the items that you get and don't expect to use but it turns out to be the most useful and amazing thing.

    WHAT were your amazing things?

    What were your useless items?

    thanks!

  • for those of you who have had ovulatory fertility issues...?

i have done a lot of reading about diet and exercise and how it is specifically related to ovulation issues in women. examples are: eating trans fats (even small amounts) can decrease fertility drastically and most of us probably get far more trans fats than we realize daily. also eating high amounts of animal proteins in the form of meat can decrease fertility but eating high amounts of organic protein from dairy and veggies can boost fertility (no difference was noted with eating eggs or fish). also only FULL FATdairy aides fertility, low fat/ no fat dairy actually hinders it

for years i have been basically eating the anti fertility diet, even tho i thought i was eating "healthy" with minimal junk food and lots of low fat this and that. now that we're trying to get pregnant i have definitely had to change my eating habits.

i'm just curious how many of you out there who have had trouble conceiving have taken diet into consideration and altered it?

  • why can EVERYBODY else get pregnant????

this is a question/rant. doesn't it suck that so many people who don't need or want a baby can just magically become pregnant? and there are other people that try so hard and it just doesn't happen easily.

i had a miscarriage almost 2 weeks ago. nobody but my husband knows because i was only 6 weeks. well last week a guy at work comes in and says him and his wife are pregnant, which is great for them but then he starts in with me on "when are you two going to have a baby? you need to get pregnant... blaah blaah blaaah" i wanted to cry and i wanted to slap him and say "bite me" but i just played it off and acted like i don't really want kids right now because nobody knows that we are thinking about having kids. we want it to be a surprise and don't feel like dealing with people asking about the condition of my uterus all the time. anyway... sending fertility thoughts to those who are TTC, waiting sucks.

  • could i be ovulating already?

i had a miscarriage 11 days ago and am now having ovulation like cervical mucus. our doctor said we didn't have to wait at all to try to get pregnant again but she said it would take about 4-6 weeks for my cycle to return to normal. ALSO another ovulation predictor i use is the "ovulation scope" you put some spit on the slide and if you are about to ovulate the spit dries into a crystally fern pattern. if you are not about to ovulate it just dries flat and you don't see anything. for the past couple of days i have seen ferns.

just wondering if any of you have had the same experience of miscarriage and then immediately started ovulating again? any pregnancies come immediately after mc?

also, that ovulation predictor thing is pretty cool and is reuseable and way cheaper than the tests you pee on, if anybody is interested in one:

  • miscarriage- what did your doctor tell you?

i posted a ? the other day about when i should tell my husband that we are pregnant... i did and two days (friday night) later i had a miscarriage. i have to go to the doctor tomorrow, but for those of you who have had a miscarriage (my first) what did your doctor tell you about continuing to try to conceive? while my husband and i are very sad about this we don't feel deterred in trying but i have heard conflicting things about continuing ranging from not having to wait at all to waiting upwards of four months.

    i was 6 weeks.

    thanks for any answers.

  • when should i tell my husband that i am pregnant???

i sortof suspected that i was pregnant a week-ish a go and on the 25th i didn't start my period (i always have a 28 day cycle) so on the 29th when i still hadn't started i took a pregnancy test and it came out as a positive. we decided in june that in october we were going to start "trying" but i basically just stopped all forms of birth control in july and i guess it worked! i am super excited and i know he'll be even more excited but i kindof like having this little secret for a bit. oh, by the way i am 5 weeks tomorrow. i have a doctor's appointment on the 17th so it will be before then. i already know how i am going to tell him... i'm going to bake a cake that says "your boys can swim!! we're pregnant!!" but i just can't decide when!!!

when did you guys tell your husbands?
