  • What if the NBA officials were to pump fake a jump ball?

Zetterberg was kicked out of the faceoff circle 9 times last night. Why do the linesman pump fake every draw? Of course your going to get the centreman to bite with that kind of adrenaline. Drop the damn rubber!

  • Anybody else get annoyed when seeing Ovechkin labeled as a sniper?

Snipers by definition are the most accurate shooters in the business. AO's career shooting percentage is 12.7% compared to Gretzky's 17.6%. Unless they change the definition of sniper to "the people who shoot the most" then AO has no business being given that label...he scored 56 goals last season but it took him 528 shots to do it...not stellar accuracy by a long shot (no pun intended). Ovechkin is currently sporting a shooting percentage of 15.8...which is 1.2% higher than his previous career season high of 14.6% and much higher than his career 12.7% average so he is blowing away his previous seasons as far as accuracy statistics go and yet he still only ranks 25th among all forwards who have played in 45 or more regular season games. Ovie has 3 more goals than Crosby despite taking 48 more shots and has 4 more goals than Marleau despite taking 62 more shots....If you want more bang for your buck you'd be much better served taking those 2 over Ovechkin........I wouldn't go as far taking Marleau ahead of Ovie but you catch my drift.

  • Is this true...............?

Mike Green is getting Norris recognition.

Green is awful in his own zone. It would be a travesty to give this award out to some kid who is incompetent as a defenseman. Mike Green is literally Washington's 4th or 5th option on the penalty kill. That does not scream good defense to me. If I was voting, it would take a lot of points to outweigh someone who was a #1 or #2 PK option for their team.

Green needs to put up Coffey-like numbers to win the Norris, though he might get a nomination just on his points alone.

ALSO: Mike Green leads ALL NHL Dmen in Giveaways. Hes 3rd overall in the NHL in giveaways with 61.

So why is Mike Green getting so much Norris talk?

  • "I forgot he was a Red Wing!"?

Every now and then when poring over recent rosters, even for the Cup-winning teams, I look at the team and think "Oh yeah, that guy played for the Red Wings." It's either legitimate NHL regulars or guys the Wings have given a second chance.

I also always think it's strange to think of Ulf Samuelsson, Wendel Clark, and Derian Hatcher in Wings jerseys, even though I remember it pretty clearly.

I could go on... Any others come to mind for your team?

  • Whats your take on? ?

The Stanley Cup Final to be played at neutral site?

I was flipping through this weeks Sports Illustrated and the Pierre McGuire's "In the Crease" mentions the following

"Inspired by the energy of the 40,000-plus fans at the Winter Classic at Wrigley Field Red Wings G.M. Ken Holland will propose that the first two games of the Stanley Cup finals be played at a neutral site with promotional rights sold for millions of dollars. This could create a Super Bowl-like environment at the star of the finals and potentially expand the NHL fanbase."

  • Someone explain why Burke was named GM of the year?

    1. He his soft with Niedermayer & Selanne. Scotty should have decided by the 1st of July, or at least before August. Well... Teemu was UFA, so not much he could do.

    2. He throws big bucks on Schneider & Big Bert. Both did not perform up to par.

    3. Gives away Dustin Penner! Instead of matching 4.25M, he gives that money to injury-prone Bertuzzi.

    4. Gives 6M deal to Giguere. Sure, he is a great goalie. But the Ducks had Bryzgalov, who has proved to be a top notch goaltender. As the backup they had very good prospect in Hiller. Don't see why Burke didn't trust the two younger goaltenders, when they had the best defensive pairs in the NHL?

    5. Burke gives away Bryzgalov for nothing! L.A., Tampa, Phoenix were probably ready to give him a little more then what he had received.

    6. He gives away McDonald, who was a playoff beast. Why not trade/waive Marchant, or Big Bert?

  • Higher All Time Ranking: Yzerman or Lidstrom?

I would have never considered saying this years ago, but even though I currently have Yzerman higher on my all time list, I can see this changing when Lidstrom hangs his skates, because he'll have at least 6 Norris trophies, and a decade of pure dominance on defense, plus he's perfect as a player.

Yzerman never quite dominated his era the way Lidstrom has. A lot of that is because of Gretzky and Lemieux, but still, Lidstrom might go down in history as a better player because he's the best at his position for 10 years. Only a few players in history have been the best at their position for 10 years. Also, Lidstrom has been more durable even in his later years, while Yzerman at this point in his career had already began to decline and was riddled with injuries.

Anyway, feel free to debate this topic.
