  • Why is the London/California time difference now different?

There has always been an 8 hour time difference between London (where I am) and California (where my family is). However once we all hit daylight savings time this past Sunday, the times have changed. Despite both myself, and the rest of England, and my family and the rest of California all setting our clocks forward 1 hour, there is now a 7 hour time difference! Can anyone explain this? We both set the clocks forward, but somewhere we lost an hour? Thank you!

  • Is there an email list for "military service animals?"?

Watching NCIS, Abby mentions receiving an email newsletter with updated information on pets used as service animals. I was just wondering if there is actually anything like this in real life, and if so where could I join in? Many thanks in advance for your answers!

  • What sort of tips do you give strippers in the UK?

In the states it is common to tip in dollar bills which are "fun and easy" to tuck into stripper's g-strings or bras. However in the UK, there are no 1 quid notes, only coins, which would seem extremely uncomfortable and invasive to try to tip a stripper with that. So my question is: what do you tip with? Only hire expensive strippers to use 5 quid notes, or is there an exchange system like casinos? Thank you!

  • How should I react to people I thought were "friends"?

I was planning a trip to Madrid from London with friends, but most people backed out. The two people that stayed we aren't terribly close, but still friends. I planned all the flight info/hostel info so it could fit all of our schedules.

I found out 30 seconds after I book my 50 pound/$75 ticket that they bought different tickets leaving Thursday instead of Friday because they don't have lecture on Friday morning...I do, so I can't leave when they are.

So not only are they planning flights/hostels without me, they expect me to get to London then Madrid and then the hostel in Madrid by myself. I'm a 20 year old girl. I may be strong and independent, but I'm not stupid.

What do I do? Do I say anything? Plan a different trip, without them, changing my ticket? Please help...I feel horrible! I feel neglected and sort of used.

  • Dorm-mate dilemma, please help?

Background: I am an exchange student to England in my third year, so I have lived in the dorms before.

I am in the dorms again due to my program, and I am having an issue with 2 of my flatmates. While we all have our own rooms and bathrooms, there is a communal kitchen shared between the 6 of us. While myself and the 4 other girls are tidy and always clean up after ourselves, 2 of the girls (who knew each other before coming to this University and are from Greece so their English isn't very good to begin with) are horrible at it. They cook in a way that leaves food and stains ALL over the counters, sink, stove, etc. and will leave it like that for days.

Earlier this afternoon I was going to do some cooking but it was an absolute sty, even though I had just seen them in there cooking and causing the mess. I knocked on their doors and one of them answered, waking from a nap. I asked her as politely as possible if she could please clean her mess since I wanted to cook and it was too dirty to do so. She said sure, closed the door...and 2 hours later still hadn't even left her room. I ended up scrubbing the whole kitchen down just to cook my own food.

I am fed up with this, and don't know how to approach them about it. It is disgusting and I know from personal experience a health factor that can easily attract rodents and bugs.

Please help me! How do I talk to them/approach them about it? What can I say that gets them to change their disgusting ways, while still being able to live with them for the rest of the year??

Also note: we have RN's, but they are never around. Literally, I have yet to meet them and they are therefore useless in this case.

    PLEASE HELP! Thank you!

  • What is the fastest hangover cure for nausea?

After a fun night last night, I'm definitely feeling it. No headache, but constantly feeling like I'm going to throw up. I need help...please! I looked at the typical cures (asprin, greasy foods, lots of water) but so far nothing is helping. Any advice would be beyond greatly appreciated! (Note: I am vegan, so I can't do anything like "eggs" or "hamburger" or whatnot. Also, please don't suggest more alcohol!)

  • Is abstinence outdated?

I'm a 20 year old virgin, female, and I have been abstinent since I was 13. While I still want to keep it, it's becoming exceedingly difficult due to the upward trend in our society to have sex before marriage. this is propagated by movies, TV shows, and the media in general. My question is, then, what would you do? What do you do? And why do you do it?

  • How to fully install Adobe Flash Player?

I'm trying to install the software, however when I go to the page to start the download it doesn't give the bar at the top of the screen where it is supposed to say "Allow." Instead, it says "Install missing plug-ins," which I click and do (it requires me to manually install them so not 100% sure on this part). However once that is done, nothing else happens and it doesn't start installing. I've restarted firefox many times and it always says the same "plug-ins" request. Any help or advice, please?

  • If I get a SIM card in the UK for my US-bought blackberry phone, do I keep my plan?

I'm studying abroad in England, and I bought a Blackberry before I left the US because they told me it was an international phone. I'm going to buy a SIM card tomorrow (they told me to buy an O2...yes?) and I was wondering: when I put in the UK O2 SIM card, does this mean I get the same exact plan that I had purchased in the US? My plan is currently unlimited texts, and unlimited minutes. Will this still be in place? Or will it only work to the US, or perhaps only to the UK? And will there be any hidden extra fees? Please help! I really don't want to get robbed here.

  • What is the drinking age for airlines flying to the UK?

I'm flying out of the states to London, and was wondering if it would be possible to order an alcoholic drink on the flight since I'm 20 and the UK drinking age is 18. Do airlines follow the US drinking age, of the UK?

  • I'm moving to England in less than 2 weeks...?

I'm studying abroad in England (not London, but outside in the rural areas) and I'm just asking for advice. If anyone could answer any of the following questions or give me any advice it would be much appreciated! Please, serious answers only.

    Questions:

Is there anything I absolutely have to bring with me? (outside of the obvious like passport, money, etc.)

As an American, what should I know specifically about the culture?

As a vegan, what's the best plan for eating and still getting adequate nutrients?

For schooling, what's the best advice?

As mentioned, please any (useful) advice is much appreciated. Thank you!
