  • how to get dog to stop eating cat poop?

I adopted a dog this summer and despite being shy, he is very well behaved. He's never destroyed anything in my apartment. He doesn't bark. Blah blah blah. Over the past couple of days, I've noticed him paying attention to the kitty litter box. I shooed him away, but didn't do anything else. I wasn't certain he was eating cat poop until this evening, when I physically saw him eat it.

    1. I realize that people think eating poop is icky and bad, but the dog just sees a little snack. Is kitty poop inherently bad for the dog? If they are healthy cats?

    2. I use World's Best Cat Litter, which is made of corn. So it's certainly less toxic that clumping clay litters, but is it toxic to the dog?

    3. If you've ever had this problem before, how did you get your dog to stop eating cat poop? I figure I should move the litter box or maybe get one that is more difficult for him to access, but I don't want him to try and eat it. And be aware that I'm not going to do any aversive training with my dog as he is shy and I'm still working on getting him to trust me.

    Thanks!

  • How to stop supporting factory farming?

I'm considering becoming a vegetarian because I want to stop supporting factory farming because of systemic mistreatment of animals.

BUT I have to go visit my family for the holidays and I am 100% certain my mom will be horribly offended if I don't eat her Thanksgiving turkey. So I'm wondering if there is a grocery store or something where I can buy her a turkey that I'm sure wasn't horribly mistreated during its life. Do special grocery stores like Trader Joes or Whole Foods carry meat like this? Or am I likely to need to look for something more specialized?

  • how can i get rid of freeloading roomie?

I'm currently living with a roommate that has been freeloading off me for the past few months. When we signed the joint lease, we had a verbal agreement that when he found a better job (which seemed to be imminent at the time), he would pay me half the back rent/utilities. So I've been paying for everything since we signed the lease. Problem is: he hasn't found a job and seems to have stopped looking. He is a recent graduate with a marketable degree from a prestigous university. He CAN find a job. He just hasn't / won't.

I'm getting the impression that he has no intention of getting a job as he has a sweet setup: living rent free, using free utilities, etc.

Also, he won't admit he is freeloading. He paid me about 1/4 month rent one time and won't let me forget it ("but I HAVE contributed to the rent!"). And he occasionally takes out my cat's kitty litter and won't let me forget it ("but I DO help out even when I don't have any money"). As if a ten minute task is worth a month's rent.

Anyways ... I'm pretty sure he won't get a job and I'm pretty sure I'm not going to see a dime, so how can I get rid of him?
