  • Is it REALLY wrong to marry/ be in a realtionship for money?

My co workers and I were conversing about this: one of them said "you marry a guy for money, you can ALWAYS learn to love him" I agree with that. I see it often in alot of relationships even one of my gay friends (i am a gay guy) when gay marraige was legalized in NY he married an significatly older white man (he is 25, has a nice body) he put it like this: he offers this older guy the opportunity to be a young, muscular attractive guy and the older guy offers him stablity (at least finacially) He wouldnt be with this guy if he didn't have money, the guy wouldnt be with him if he didn't have the body. etc... They both have an understanding of what each other expects and are ok with it. My friend lives on the Upper West Side, doesn't have to spend his money on anything anf got his college tuition paid for by this guy. While I struggle to pay back student loans. I mean I am not muscualr and strapping like my friend, but I am a decent looking guy and I remember a guy similiar to my friends new lover hit on me in a bar and I turned him down. Today I think about how much easier my life may be if I had taken him up on his offer. I'd love to hear opinions about the subject I am asking. no opinions on gays, blacks, whites etc. Thnk.

  • How do I go about selling an autographed sports memorabilia peice? What would you like to ask?

Hi, I work in a shared office space. One of the clients that is moving out randomly came up to me abnd asked if I like the Knicks. I told him my dad does. He then gave me an autographed Larry Johnson picture. I was going to give it to my dad, he said he hated Larry Johnson while he was on the knicks: why I don't know lol. Bottom line is, I don't want it and I want to sell it. How do I know how much it would be worth and where to sell this kind of item? I live in New York City so finding a person that will want a autographed Knicks player picture shouldn't be an issue. But whats the best way to get the most money for this? It is not a big picture if that makes a difference...

  • Is there a way to remove a blank page from a PDF?

Hi, I just redid my resume because I am looking for a new job. I am soo eager to get it out (my current job is not a good fit) I see there are postions in NYC I want to apply for. But after totally revamping my resume and doing it as a PDF, it has the resume on the top page, and an additional blank page at the bottom. With soo much compitition out there, the last thing I want is for a potential employer to think I am careless because I have a useless extra page on my resume that I didn't bother to remove. I only have adobe reader. I heard you can alter the document in adobe acrobat, but that is available for $199.00 on the website. I don't use adobe consitantly enough to pay this amount just to alter one document. Are there any programs I can get for free to remove the blank page, can it be done in Abobe Reader? I feel kind of stuck because I can't remove the page!

  • What should I do? Can't pay full rent!?

I had a emergency (medical) that I had to come out of my pocket quite a bit for. I moved into my new apartment in march. I was lucky to get it because it is one of the nicest prewar buildings in the town, and my credit isnt that great. They made an exception because they saw I made the income at least and wanted to help me out. My rent is $800.00 I can pay $700 now and the final $100 when I get paid again in two weeks. I have other bills and food to get, plus my rail pass to NYC for work. What should I do in this situation? I feel I am letting them down by being late period. What should I do? the rent is due by Sunday!

P.S: this is not a private family building, it is apartment building owned by a management company.

  • Is a scanned resume a suitable attachment to add to an email?

I totally revamped my resume, as I am looking for a new job job. The problem is, in all the test emails I sent to my self. The font in the bottom half of the resume changes from regular text to bold, italicized text. It only does this when you hit the open fuction, when you hit download, the resume opens in word normally. So I scanned the resume to myself, however you can see the little things that you see with a scanned document: the lines aren't bold and the text isn't bold as well. But the format is right. Would it be better to send the scanner document as an attachment, or fix whatever is making my format change and send that?

  • How much will I cost to paint my new apartment?

I just moved into my new apartment and I got permission to paint it. It is a one bedroom apartment. I have a small entry foyer, a kitchen, and a living room with a curved ceiling (its pre war) And of course my bathroom and bedroom. I want to use three different colors for the different rooms and paint the window frames and door frames (is that what they are called?) White for contrast. How much will this cost roughly? I live in NJ...if that makes a difference.

  • what is the easiest way of removing a damaged surface of wood furnature.?

So I am moving into my own apartment this saturday (yay) I have all my furnature already. I bought a separate set for my living room and I am keeping my bedroom set. The problem is, I have had my bedroom set for years and when I was younger (i am only 23) I spilled stuff on it put tape on it, basically not appreciating the real value of real wood furntiture. People were telling me that the weathered look is nice sometimes, but there is a difference between weathered and damaged and the wood looks damaged. I seems to just be a the top layer of the wood on my bookshelf and dresser. Is there a do it yourself way to refinish the damaged areas of the wood?

  • Should I do cable or wireless and stream?

I just ordered my new laptop! I am also moving into my own apartment next weekend! I have some questions about cable: I don't watch alot of TV, so I don't think I need a fancy cable plan. My bulding only uses comcast, (which I heard is REALLY pricey) so one of my coworker suggested I just pay for high speed wireless (which is at the most like $50 per month) and stream TV from the internet and get netflicks. Has anyone used this method of in home entertainment. How has it worked out for you?

  • What money is frozen when a bank levy is done?

I have a levy (well recieved the paperwork) on my account that I am sure is coming out soon. It is for $1,057. I am finally owning up to my oblogations and paying back my debt. So I am letting them do the (previously I was functioning on cash only)

I have about $5,600 is my checking now (tax returning coming soon) When the levy is done, will they freeze my whole account, or will they just take and hold the $1,057 and I will be free to use the other monies that are the balance after the levy? Or will the whole account be frozen and I should take cash out to pay my bills for that period of time?

  • What is going on with my return on turbotax?

I am trying to do my tax return on turbo tax and something weird is happening. Last year I worked in Nj (i live in NJ) and on August 1st I got a new Job in NYC. I am doing my return on turbo tax and when I put in the W2 for my NYC job the federal return was $880 for that job alone. and I had a state return of around $110. I went to "add a W2" and inputed my info from my NJ job into the space. My return (unless it was just for that W2) dropped to $345 and it said I owe NJ $245! Im confused because the problem didnt occur on the retrurn I though would be more difficult: the NYC return. I thought if i was going to owe taxes to NJ it would be on the W2 that I didnt work in NJ. But for my job that I worked, and lived in NJ I owe.... am I doing something wrong?

  • If an apartment complex ask for a security deposit does that mean your in?

I toured an apartment I LOVE on saturday. The guy was very nice and told me to go to the leasing office get the application. The girls were very nice as well. I had a slight credit issue with a student loan. I though this would be a road block to me getting the apartment. But the guy said "don't worry about that, the girls said once you left the girls said they wanted you in" (it didnt hurt that I wore a bowtie and my grandma was with me :) SO I called him today and he said I can meet him to drop off the paperwork for their records and my SECURITY DESPOSIT to hold the apartment, (it wont be available until april 1st, being renovated) It is a simple pre war elevator building, nothing fancy. But does that mean that I really am in? My criminal background is flawless and my income is sufficent, my only issue is the credit blip, which I informed them about already. Does asking for the security deposit mean I am actually in the apartment? I am soo nervous!

  • How can I increase my chances of getting an apartment when my credit is not great?

I have too things on my credit that are not so stellar: a student loan that is not in good standing and a credit I have just started paying down. (outside circumstances) I NEED an apartment by the end of next month as my family is moving to Florida. I have given up on moving to NYC for now because of their strict criteria. I toured an apartment I fell in LOVE with today: a simple cozy one bedroom in a pre war elevator building. The neighborhood is decent and is close to the train to NYC where I work. When I asked the guy who showed me the apartment what were the credit/income requirments where (I can easily afford the $770.00 a month) he said "you just have to like it and it is yours" Well I love it, but when I went to the actual rental office and got an application, I see that the application has a "permission to us to to recieve a credit check disclaimer" and now I am worried I wont get this apartment. I have never been evicted before however. I LOVE THIS BUILDING AND APARTMENT! what can I do to make sure I won't lose it? everything else on me: income, criminal, and employment is stellar, its just the credit check.

  • Is now too soon to look for something new (employment wise)?

I started my current job on August 1st. It is much better than my previous job: it pays more, it is New York City (exciting) and my deskmate is AWESOME to work with. There are some issues: the most minor is my manager is moody and allows her mood to dictate how she treats us. But that is minor compared to the two major ones: it is in a VERY corporate enviroment: office building etc. I am more of a creative person. This job was just a way out of a VERY poisonous previous work environment. The second thing is: New York is EXPENSIVE and I need to make a little more money to comfortably live here. I was at my previous job three years. Would it be ok for me to look for a new job now?

  • What is an appropriate gift in response to this gesture.?

Today at work, one of the clients was wearing this beatiful white Aran cable cashmere sweater. I complimented him on the sweater. He went on to tell me it was made in Ireland and the cashmere was Irish. He then preceded to ask me if I wanted the sweater. I tried in on and it fits! So I basically recieved a very rare sweater in great condition for free. It's probably worth $300 or more dollars being cashmere. Now, the client didn't ask for anything in return. But I feel it would be wrong to just take the sweater and say thanks, without doing anything in return... What would be an appropriate gesture on my part to express my thanks? I kind of strapped for cash, as rent and everything is coming up.. so it can't be outrageously expensive.

  • how to start a convo with a guy I see alot (in a public place)?

Ok so there is this guy who is at my train station that I take into work. He is my type (at least physically, I dont know him yet) about 5'11 and has a nice muscular body. The first time he eyed me in a fairly suspicious way.. My response was to be shocked, since I normally dont attract what I am attracted to (i'm slender and from my experience most muscular guys like other muscular guys) I think it showed in my face I was shocked, and not in a good way... fast foward to today, I was getting on the train with my friend and we passed him as he was sitting to get our seat. My friend said "he is definately checking you out in some way". So I THINK he is gay and interested.. but not sound cocky (because I am not) when I am in bars, clubs etc most guys approach me if they are interested. I am shy and don't know how to initiate the connection... any advice? Serious answers please!

  • I having some confusion about my credit score, please help? What would you like to ask?

One of my New Years resolutions is to raise my credit score to at least 650 (which is what most apartments in NYC are looking for. The last time I officially check my credit score, it was a 502. I applied for something (foolish i know) and was declined (obviously). The paper I recieved explaining the decline of credit said my credit score was 488.. I was so shocked I thought abotu declaring bankruptcy.. I officially checked my credit score on freecreditreport.com and it says that as of today I have a 548... In fact my free report from there states i hasnt gone down in months! And in July of last year it went up! Much better than 448 but not good. Thats the end of my story, now here are my questions.

    - what explains the huge difference in what this company said (488) and what experian is telling me (548)?

    - are there any other sites that will give me free credit reports from ALL the reporting bureaus?

    - What should I do to improve the score to at least 650, so I can get a apartment in NYC, which has stricter credit requirments for apartment renting, if I can I would like to see a big improvement by the end of next year.

  • How do I go about not being bothered about being stared out?

BEFORE YOU THINK THIS IS AN ARROGANT RANT ABOUT ME BEING THE MOST IMPORTANT PERSON IN THE WORLD: PLEASE READ.

As I have gotten older, I have noticed that people stare at me. I worked at Brooks Brothers (high end retail) for three years before I got this new job where I am now. Thus, thanks to my employee discount, 95 percent of my clothes are Brooks Brothers.. Ever since I started wearing the clothes consistantly, I notice that people stare. I'm sure the clothes have something to do with it.. I am decent looking but far from a supermodel.... I'm thin so the clothes look nice on me, but thats it. The problem is that the looks I get BOTHER me.... They make me so upset that I glare at the people doing the staring.... I don't know why it bothers me so much, I guess I see it as a invasion of privacy...What should I do to help this not bother me? Once again, this is not an uppity rant glorifying myself...lol.. I'm sure it is my clothes that I wear... but i invested alot in them the three years I worked at Brooks (even though I was making almost no money then...lol) and also the clothes are consistant with my new job's dress code... what should I do? SERIOUS ADVICE only...
