  • Was it a meteor I saw this morning?

While driving to work this morning (about 0800UT, 0400 EDT), I looked to my left (east, driving south) and I saw a very bright point of light, something like Venus at its brightest. But it appeared to remain in one place, brighten a bit, and then fade from view. I believe it was a meteor that I happened to view head-on! Could that be correct? If so, how often does that occur? I've seen plenty of "falling stars", but have never seen anything like this. If not a meteor, can anyone provide a good prosaic explanation? If your suggestion would be an alien craft or some such nonsense, then please don't bother to respond.

  • Question about 1997 Ford Ranger brake bleeding procedure.?

I just replaced the rear drum brakes, brake cylinders, and a 30" (approx) piece of brake line on this Ranger. Now the cylinder in the driver's side rear had developed a massive leak (hence the replacement), so the system went really low. Everything is done except the bleeding procedure.

This truck is a two wheel drive with rear only ABS (RABS), and the crummy Haynes Manual says to start at the master cylinder and loosen the fittings there (I assume they mean the ones on the tube shaped assembly that comes off the MC and leads to the fluid fill reservoir, is that correct?

Any help and additional tips would be greatly appreciated!

  • Replacing speed sensor on 1997 Taurus?

My OB-II code reader shows P0500 and says "vehicle speed sensor A malfunction". I would think that this would be found on the transmission, but not real sure, is this correct? Is this a difficult item to replace? I have already found that it is inexpensive, but I wonder about the difficulty in making the fix. Thanks for any input.

Oh yes, the car has the 3.0 Liter Vulcan engine.

  • Fate of guitar at Woodstock 1969?

The last 10 seconds of this video have Pete Townshend gently tossing his guitar (after abusing it somewhat) to the audience:

It is worth watching it entirely! Does anyone here know what became of it? Any answers are welcome, I'd just like to see one informative answer, however. Thanks to all!

  • Success of psychic predictions?

Please see this website as testament to the "success" of the prognosticating abilities of psychics, it is very amusing:

    http://www.panicwatch.org/article.pl?title=Failed%...

I would like to see the believers show a list of successful predictions, but please, they must be accurate and specific, no retro-fitting. Also, they must be shown to have been predicted before the event they claim to have foreseen. Any year will do.

So what do you think? Is there anything at all to psychic ability, or is it all nonsense?

  • Who's my avatar a picture of?

Occasionally someone comments on the "creepiness" of my avatar, I'll give the best answer to the first answer which names the (hint) musician first.

  • Physics problem involving a skier on a hill. I've spent a lot of time on this, but can't figure it out. Help!?

A skier starts from rest at the top of a large hemispherical hill of radius R. Neglecting friction, show that the skier will become airborne at a distance of h=R/3 below the top of the hill.
