What interests me... Life, in all its absurd futility Skills? None. Whatsoever The last good book I read... The last *really* good book is a toss-up between Ayn Rand's 'We the Living' and Jeffery Deaver's 'Praying for Sleep' If any of you are bored check me at daloserdiaries.wordpress.com And if you're *really* bored, on Twitter @JustAsSad Keep asking questions. Life is boring if you don't.

  • I want to get the hell out of my job (?)?

    Hi all,

    So here s the thing:

I can no longer tolerate my job. I ve been there for just over a year (but in the industry for over 7... restaurant), and I can t take it anymore.

I do realise that in a lot of ways I m in over my head: I m not an authoritative sort of person (and I m supposed to be "in charge"), and I do understand my employer s frustration with me. Having said that: the employers can be irrational, and incredibly pedantic and hard to please. Nothing is ever good enough, and nothing is ever right. And when you re working 12hour days, five and a half days a week for a little over R7000 (about $800) a month, man....... the fear, unhappiness, anxiety, frustration, irritation, overwhelming sense of failure and self-hatred, and flat-out misery just isn t worth it.

My major concern is that I do not have any formal qualifications, and the bulk of my professional experience is in this field! And I would sooner die than find another restaurant job...

Perhaps here, I am not seeking so much as advice but rather a place to vent... but I am open to any comments

I am excruciatingly unhappy... and it s starting to show...

  • why am I gaining weight?

    Hello all

I've been going to the gym for the last month, five days a week, and I spend at least an hour and a half doing cardio (recumbent bike, elliptical and treadmill) and half an hour doing weights. I watch my calorie intake yet clothes I could fit into before I started working out - and eating a lot more - have somehow become tighter on me. So what on earth am I doing wrong here??

Please, any advice would be very much appreciated

  • Your favourite scenes from movies...?

    Favourite scene(s) from any movie(s)?

Mine are in Blue Velvet where Dean Stockwell mimes to Orbison - so cool

Shutter Island where diCaprio is confronted by Emily Mortimer ("your body rained down lotsa flesh splashing into the sea eaten by sharks")

Silence of the Lambs where Hannibal thanks Clarice (...never again to hear the awful screaming of the lambs)

Rebekah del Rio's performance of Llorando in Mulholland Drive

Where Tim Curry pops up from the swimming pool in Rocky Horror, love his eyes so direct into the camera

    Cheers

  • In need of some book recommendations...?

    Hey,

So I'm gonna give titles of different books, coz I'm hoping to find books similar to those I'm gonna list. So far recommendations on Amazon and Goodreads just ain't helping me. And please, I really don't like romance!

A Simple Plan - Scott Smith

Praying for Sleep - Jeffery Deaver

The Devil's Feather - Minette Walters

    Affliction - Russell Banks

    About Schmidt - Louis Begley

...Or any really good thrillers or contemporary 'drama' novels

    Thank you for your time

  • When your imaginary friends get bored with you...?

Yeah it's true. They're bored of me as I am of them, so I guess I'm gonna have to think up some new ones... Har har

But seriously, what does one do when one is fricking 33, practically friendless and has the social skills of a foetus, as I do? I'm the most talkative thing online but in real life, good lord am I quiet. And it gets awkward. Especially if I like the person I'm with coz then I'm extra quiet coz the nerves are really kicking in. So I'm sure for the most part that other person would be thinking I don't want to talk or be around them which is so far from the truth it's laughable. Well, no, not quite... If it was laughable it wouldn't hurt as much as it does when my defenses break down and reality slaps me across the face and spells out L.O.N.E.L.Y.

So what do I do? Drinking doesn't help to lower my inhibitions, I've tried that, hehe, so what else is there when going out and talking to strangers literally scares the b'jesus outta me? So much so my hands shake and it's an effort to control the shake in my voice? Get out that cardboard and make me some friends? Or...? Any other suggestions?

    Cheers

    :)
