  • What are the side effects of nicotine lozenges?

I recently used Nicorette lozenges to quit smoking. While I was using them, I developed flatuence which is listed as a side effect. Once I was within a week of finishing the 12 week program, I developed diarrhea, which comes and goes intermittently. The problem only goes away from a brief time. Is there anything that I can do to end the cycle? I have tried Imodium AD, I tried probiotics and I am not sure what else to try. Any advice would help.

  • Windows Vista back up disk?

I had a laptop and the hard drive crashed and it was running Windows Vista. I now have a computer that is runnning Windows XP and I would like to use the backup disks that I created using the Vista computer and put those files on an external hard drive from a computer that is running XP. Is this possible? The XP computer doesn't seem to be able to read the disk. Is there any way around this?

  • what can I use to bond my exhaust to my manifold?

I have replaced my entire exhaust system, except for the manifold. There is a very small leak between the manifold and the exhaust pipe. This leak is about 1/32" thick and about 0.5" long. I would replace the manifold, but it is 20+ years old and the studs are rusted so I am very afraid that I might break them if I placed any torque on them.

  • fuel pressure regulator replacement?

I have a new fuel pressure regulator that I would like to replace on my car. My car is a 1991 Saab 900S. This does not look like a hard problem to solve, except that I believe that the current regulator is an original part, which means it is not wanting to come off. I am afraid that I am going to break my fuel line trying to remove the old one. I found the fuel line that goes from the regulator to the fuel rail without a problem, $10 with shipping, so I am wondering where I could get the line that comes in the other side of the regulator. This is something I would like to have on hand just in case I break it so I am not without a car for as long as it takes for the new fuel line to get to me. So, being able to return the unused fuel line is something I would like to be able to do. None of the parts stores close to me sell this part, and I can't seem to find it online anywhere. So, I was wondering if I have to call a salvage yard, hate doing that, or where I could have the line made, realizing that this would cause me to not be able to return the fuel line?

  • Causes of hot battery?

My car wouldn't start this morning, so my neighbor tried to jump my car. After a few minutes of trying, the posts, terminals, and jumper cables were hot. I believe the cause of this is a really bad battery, but I would like confirmation.

  • 1991 Saab ABS question?

I have a 1991 Saab 900 S. I do not have rear or anti-lock brakes. My master cylinder is good. I think it is either the ABS hydraulic unit, or the ABS computer. My questions are, where are they both located? Do you know an easy way to test to see which one of the two is bad? Finally, are there other years or models that I can use the parts from? Since neither one of these is cheap to purchase.

  • What do I need to know?

I have a hard drive from a laptop that no longer functions. I have purchased an enclosure for that hard drive and would like to use that as the disk my computer boots from. The laptop hard drive has VISTA on it, and the old, ~6 years, desktop has XP on it. Would I need a new processor to run VISTA efficiently? The processor in the desktop runs at 1.51 GHz, I think.

Is there a way for me to use the processor that was in my laptop?

  • How do I get my flash drive to work at home?

I have a Dane-Elec 4GB USB flash drive. This device works fine at work. At home, I can't get any files either on or off the device. When I try to view the files on the drive, my computer tells me that it can't find system.exe. My computer tells me that the device is working properly and I have the current drivers installed to use this flash drive. What do I do now?

  • Did my hard drive crash?

When I turn my laptop on, one of three things happens. First, everything works fine, this is the rarest of the three things that happens.

Second, the screen turns on, but nothing shows up. The appearance of the screen is very similar to when the computer is asleep. This happens about half the time.

Third, when I turn my laptop on, the screen lights up, however, there is no signal that is going to the screen. This happens about half the time.

Most of the time, about 98%, I can't do anything with my computer. I can't try to reinstall the operating system because that is on the D drive. So, without being able to get windows to even tell me there is an error, I can't attempt to do anything. I think either the motherboard or the hard drive has decided it doesn't like my anymore and wants a new home in the recycling bin somewhere.

  • how do I conquer this electrical connector problem?

I have a set screw aluminum lug wire connector I need to attach to a different type of connector somehow. The other connector is designed to have a thin piece of metal pass through it, then you turn the connector so the thin piece of metal can no longer pass through. Then, you screw in the bolt to both attach the connector and complete the circuit, there is not a bolt hole in the metal piece that the connector attaches to. One is from a DC power source and the other is from a AC power source and in no situations will both be used at the same time.

Will attaching the screw lug connector and the other connector with the same bolt cause too much arching?

This is all going to be attached to a wire feed through. Should I machine a piece of metal that will allow both to be connected to the same piece, but at different points?

Should I machine piece of metal that has a bolt hole and then attempt to feed both wires into the new connector?

  • What are these called?

I am looking for a spring loaded lever arm to use in taking measurements for electronics. I do not know what they are called or where to purchase one. They need to be very delicate, being used to hold OLEDs for taking measurements and I am building my own equipment. I would like to be able to use them as part of the process of taking the measurements, so conductors that I can attach a wire too, but that is not required, just one less step in the building process.

  • Can my apartment complex tow my car for it being parked in the spot I rent from them?

I haven't driven my car in over a month. During the past month, we had about 3 inches of slush that developed and froze to the ground. My car is now sitting in it's parking spot and all four tires are sitting on ice, with a 2-3 inch barrier of ice to climb. The snow has drifted around my car so I can't get to the front of it to push it out. I just got home and there was a note stuck in my door that said if all cars in the lot were not out of the lot by 8 am, they would be towed so the complex can completely remove the snow from the parking lot. There is no way I can get my car out within the time frame, can they legally tow my car?

  • Someone told me something I doubt, so I want other opinions?

My dog loves all of my white friends that come over, as soon as I let them in, he seems to seek out attention from them. If I have a friend over that isn't white, some are from the middle east and some are black, he reacts completely different towards them. He does not want them around at first, it takes him a few minutes, then he seeks attention from them. Someone told me that people of different ethic backgrounds can have a different scent to dogs, since they have some of the most powerful noses in the world, it might be possible that they do give off a slightly different scent that we would never be able to pick up on.

My question is, is it because different ethnic backgrounds have different scents, or is it because where I live the vast majority of people are white, so he doesn't see people from different ethic backgrounds near as often as he sees white people? Or, is my dog just racist?

Whenever I am presented with something that makes me not believe what is said, I tend to ask people that might be able to give me the right answer.

  • Degrees of freedom for a linear harmonic oscillator?

I am trying to answer a question for my thermodynamics homework. In order to answer the question, I need to find 4 degrees of freedom for a linear harmonic oscillator, just one particle. I can only think of three, one for kinetic energy, and two for the spring constants from the particles attached. What would the fourth degree of freedom be for this system?

The question is, For a system of N linear harmonic oscillators, show that E=NkT. I can show that if I can find 4 degrees of freedom for the system.

  • Question about dog behavior?

My dog has developed an interesting behavior. He gently puts pressure on me with each of his paws, they alternate. He starts by pushing his front leg out, then applies a small amount of pressure to me, then he pulls he paw towards him and it feels like he is petting me. Is this a behavior that I should be worried about? I have never encountered this in any dog before and I am not sure how to interpret it

  • My dog has a problem?

He walks around just fine, and then will stop and cry with his front left foot off the ground. I called the vet, but they can't see him for a couple of hours. Can I give him half an aspirin, or might that effect the way he is when he sees the vet? I just want him to not be in any more pain than he has to be.

I don't think it is anything serious, he was fine last night when I went to bed. He didn't wake me up last night either crying or being way too clingy, which is what he does when he is sick or in pain.

  • What does it take to become a dog trainer?

I don't want to be one of the Petco dog trainers, I don't think I want to do it for a living, either. I would like to do it as a hobby/side job. I just enjoy working with dogs and think I would be good at it based on the behavior and training my dog has compared to just about any other dog I encounter.

  • How should I address this?

I have had my dog for almost four years. The only times I have ever heard him growl are when I am playing with him, or when another dog is aggressive towards him, until today.

There is a lady that lives down the street from me. I was walking my dog and both the lady and my dog wanted to say hi to each other. I let him. They were being friendly and he was licking her face and his tail was wagging so hard I thought he might fall over. After about 30 seconds of this, she stepped back about 5 feet. She asked if my dog was a cocker spaniel, he is. As soon as I answered her she had a look of sheer terror on her face and started to run in the house. When she started to run away, my dog started barking aggressively and growled at her. He quickly came under control and calmed down.

I guess I am asking, how do I simulate her response so I can replicate it to use as a training tool? Simply having someone run away pretending to be afraid wouldn't work, since she was experiencing real terror that would be very difficult to replicate.
