  • What are the dimensions of a cigarette filter?

Would like to know the length and diameter of filters commonly found on king sized (84mm?), 100's and those slim (120mm?) cigarettes.

  • Cloud gazing: Do watch or do you see?

I've noticed that cloud gazing to me is not the same as it once was when I was a kid. They're mostly just clouds now.

So my question(s) to you: Do you just watch clouds pass by, or do you see something else? Why do you think that is? Can such a sense of wonder be regained?

  • I ordered a book online, but it never came... I ordered it in a store, and the online package arrived?

    The situation is as follows:

    1. I ordered a book off the internet. I was surprised that they would deliver it to my addres, as no payment details were asked. I initially assumed that the company would deliver it to one of their nearest outlets for collection, but given that they would deliver to my address, I corrected that assumption to a 'pay upon delivery' package. They sent me an invoice of what I would have to pay via email.

    2. I emailed the company and asked how long it would take, and I checked with the neighbors and the post office several times as they advised I do. It was at neither, so I emailed them back explaining how it wasn't there. They agreed to order it again, but I opted to order in one of their outlets instead. I also emailed them that.

    3. I have only just now received the package, a month after it was scheduled to arrive. I only learned about the package being there after my university administration sent me a "reminder" that I received a package a month ago. I have not received any emails prior that: Admin muddled up. Although admittedly, I didn't check with admin before that... they normally send out emails.

    4. In any case, the book I ordered in the store is scheduled to arrive some time by Friday, so it's too late to cancel the order. In addition, as I assume admin doesn't pay for packages, the invoice is enclosed in the package (which I haven't opened yet).

What should I do? Admin messed up, I assumed admin didn't have it so I never checked with them, and I have the same book arriving some time by Friday. The package is still unpaid. Should I contact/send the package back to the company? Should I *just* keep it? Should I pay up?

  • Alto Saxophone issue: Stuck in high notes for some reason?

My saxophone is stuck in high notes for some reason...

It's as if the thing you press to get to the high notes (don't know the technical term, but you know... the one connected to the neck with that little valve that moves) is always being pressed.

It's not the reed or mouthpiece.

Any help in figuring out and fixing this issue is greatly appreciated.

  • Japanese language schools in the Netherlands that use English as a basis?

Hey! I'm looking for language schools that teach Japanese in the Netherlands, but not specifically for Dutch students and more for an international crowd (i.e. the course being based on English and not Dutch).

Do you have any suggestions? The closer to Utrecht, the better, but I'll go with anything.

    Cheers!

  • Can't sign into MS Messenger for Mac and a whole bunch of other IMs, even though I haven't changed settings?

    Here's the deal:

Can't log into MSN. Have tried reinstalling, to no avail.

Have tried iChat, Adium and aMSN, and I can't log into those either.

My Internet works fine. I'm using Ethernet.

I haven't changed any settings whatsoever.

The Firewall is set to accept all incoming connections.

    What could the problem be?

  • Looking for a math formula for arrangement possibilities?

For instance, if I have a set of 5 letters AEIOU, how many unique arrangement possibilities are there?

    AEIOU

    AEIUO

    AEUIO

    AEOIU

    AEIUO

    OIUEA

    IUAEO

    UIOEA

    etc.

I'm pretty sure there's a math formula out there that tells me how many there are.

Worauf sollte man beim Kauf achten?

  • Which (and what kind of) dictionary should I get?

    Hey there Y!A!

I've decided that I'd like to learn Japanese. I'd also like to stress that this is NOT because of anime!

    Anyways.

My native language is German, however I'm studying in an English-speaking environment and as a result only speak German when writing to relatives and friends.

I heard that one should get a dictionary in one's native language as opposed to a second language, no matter how well you speak it.

What do YOU think (besides the obvious solution to get 2 dictionaries)?

In addition, do you happen to know any GOOD English-Japanese-English or German-Japanese-German dictionaries? What should I look out for?

    Thanks, Y!A!

  • What wine would you recommend?

    Here's the info:

    1. It'll be an evening/late-night get-together

    2. We've sort of settled on red wine

    3. We will not be drinking the wine to food

    4. The budget is about 15 US$

    5. We don't usually drink wine

I'd like to buy a good wine based on this information.

Based on points 1, 2 and 5 and a bit of research I think the heavier wines like Syrah and Cabernet Sauvignon aren't so suitable. But what do you think? What wine would you recommend?

I live in Asia by the way, so Australian wine is most accessible. Haven't seen many American wines, but quite a few European ones.

  • Is sociology and geography a good combination to study?

How much overlapping is there between the two subjects?

Is it a good combination, yes or no and why?

If not, what subjects would make for a good combination with geography, or should I simply study geography on its own?

  • Does the Diablo Battle Chest run on Mac?

Specifically the Battle Chest with this box: http://f3c.yahoofs.com/shopping/3088080/simg_t_ms1...

I realize it has both Windows and Mac system requirements printed on the box, like so many Blizzard games. However I'm a bit wary, as the Diablo 2 I bought 8 years ago also had these details on the box but the CD was a PC only version.

I know the original Diablo only comes on PC.

  • If all it takes is research, why are we asking at all?

Sometimes I feel like a mindless robot. There are so many questions that have such simple answers that all it takes is some research in a book or the internet.

What is the point of asking anymore? Is it immediate feedback? Is it to feel human? Is there a point?

My theory is that there are only two real purposes of asking:

    1. To socialize

    2. To genuinely explore the unknown
