  • Help please?? Finding time period?

    A uniform disk of mass m and radius R lies in a vertical plane and is pivoted about a point a distance ℓcm from its center of mass in (Figure 1) . When given a small rotational displacement about the pivot, the disk undergoes simple harmonic motion.

    Determine the period of this motion. Use the notation lcm for the distance ℓcm.

    Express your answer in terms of π, acceleration due to gravity g, some or all of the variables m, R, and lcm.

  • Help with physics? Bullet hitting a pendulum?

    A ballistic pendulum is a device for measuring bullet speeds. One of the simplest versions consists of a block of wood hanging from two long cords. (Two cords are used so that the bottom face of the block remains parallel to the floor as the block swings upward.) A 9.6-g bullet is fired into a ballistic pendulum in which the block has an inertia of 4.5 kg , and the block rises 60 mm above its initial position.

    What is the speed of the bullet just before it hits the block?

    How much energy is dissipated in the collision?

    I'm confused as where to start since we only have distance and mass.

  • Oxidation numbers of H2O2?

    For H2O2 since there is no charge and since oxygen always has a -2 charge and there are two oxygen ions why aren't the oxidation numbers 4- for O2 (2* -2) and 4+ for H2 (to bring the charg to 0)? My book says its 2- for oxygen. Could you please explain this? Thank you!

  • Two Alleles of the same gene do not normally end up on the same gamete because.....?

    a) the separation of sister chromatids into different gametes

    b) crossing over between homologous chromosomes

    c) the separation of homologous chromosomes into different gametes

    d) both a and c

    I think its d? because it doesn't say whether or not the alleles express the same thing even though they are for the same gene.... please help! thanks in advance!

  • Did I do these 2 calc. problems right?

    Using shell method find the volume:

    1) y = 36 - x^2 , y = 0 rotated around the y-axis

    2pi [limits of integration 6 to 0] x(36 - x^2) ----> 36x - x^3 -----> 18x^2 - (x^4/4)

    18(6^2) - (6^4/4) = 324 * 2pi = 648pi

    2) y = 1/x , x = 1 , x = 4 rotated around the x- axis

    2pi [limits of integration 4 to 1] x(1/x) -----> 1 ------> x ------> 4 - 1 = 3 *2pi = 6pi

  • Shell method in calculus?

    I have a test tomorrow and it would be great if you could show me the steps to these two practice problems:

    1) Use the shell method to solve for the volume: y = 36 - x^2 , y = 0 rotating around the y - axis

    2) Use the shell method to solve for the volume: y = 1/x , x = 4, x = 1 rotating around the x - axis

    Thanks in advance!

  • Are drunken words really sober thoughts...?

    So this is random but I was just curious. I was at this party and I was making out with this guy who was a friend of my friends boyfriend and we were both pretty tipsy and we had never met before and in the middle of making out he says "you're so f*cking beautiful". I'm guessing the heat of the moment had a lot to do with it but are drunken words really sober thoughts?

  • Did I do these stats problems right?

    Since the stock market began in 1872, stock prices have risen about 73% of the years. Assuming that market performance is independent from year to year, what's the probability of

    a) the market will rise for 3 consecutive years

    b) the market will rise 3 out of the next 5 years

    c) the market will fall during at least 1 of the next five years

    d) the market will rise during a majority of years over the next decade

    My Work:

    a) binompdf( 3, .73, 3) = 38.9%

    b) binompdf(5, .73, 3) = 28.4%

    c) binompdf(5, .73, 0) = .001435 ----> 1-.001435 = 99.9%

    d) binomcdf(10, .73, 6) = 16.9%

  • Any ACL surgery advice?

    so i tore my acl, mcl, and meniscus playing soccer and it's been about 2 months and my leg is really strong. I've been doing jumping, running in a straight path, squats, balancing exercises, and side steps with a medicine band.

    My question is would you suggest the patella graft or hamstring graft?

    I'm 18 and will probably continue to play club soccer in college. I've done research on both grafts and the problems i come across is pain later on with the patella but the hamstring isn't as stable....

    I think i might be leaning towards patella but how bad/often is the pain?

    any input would help please just say if personal experience and what not
